I'm very far from an Oscar De la Hoya fan, but Pacquiao is the one to blame in terms of why the fight is not happening. His last PPV performed very poorly. Remember Oscar did 900,000 buy against Sturm with Hopkins-Allen 3 on the undercard. He did 600-700,000 for both Campas and Castillejo fights.
Even still he guaranteed Pacquiao $20 mil for the fight and Pacquiao turned it down over 10% of the revenue knowing good and well that DLH is the one who owns a promotional company and that Bob Arum is also going to be kniving into the revenues since Pacquiao, like all other Top Rank fighters, wants it that way.
I get it...it's not about the money. I get it...you can't put a price on the excitement Pacquiao brings to the table, etc. But idealist, purist pride aside...if Pacquiao REALLY wanted the fight don't you think he'd accept it knowing he's going to get $20 mil?
I've been signing off for the last 15 minutes so I'm not going to dig this up. I read an article where Oscar said Pacquiao was going to make $20 mil/3 or 4 times his highest payday. I'll find it at some point and send it to your inbox.
That wasn't not a formal offer that Pacquiao. Here is one of many articles discussing a possible GBP offer and Manny's demands.
http://teampilipinas.info/2008/07/pacquiao-offered-10-m-vs-oscar-dela.html
If he was offered 20 million, he would have taken it cuz that's what he wanted.
Do you have a link? I have been following this since the fight was proposed and the only thing I read was that Pacquiao was ASKING for 20 million. He was NOT offered that amount. Any purse talks was strictly in terms of percentages no precise dollar figure was guaranteed.
Dan Rafael suggested an amount in his article...
.
Golden Boy never made a 20 million dollar offer. Unless you have a link that confirms that but I highly doubt it.

THAT'S why I call you a hater...you just can't let it go.
the fuck are you talking about? i responded to your threat with no hate intended and you wanted to get into this debate? who's the one that cant let go? make threads about other subjects. don be like ur homies and we'll be cool
When that shit about Larry Merchant happened, is because you all love to discredit anyone who says anything negative about Floyd.
"He's just bitter and jealous because of Floyd success, he needs to shut up because he knows jack shit"
But as soon as the same person says something positive..
"See? So and so is a respectable figure in boxing who knows his shit"
just be consistent. You can call me a hater all you want, but the only people really calling me a "hater" happen to be the majority of The Coalition and thats because all of you are hardcoreFloyd fans. The rest of the board doesn't because I'm consistent with my criticism with other fighters, not just Floyd. But you don't want to read that. You wont read my threads or post in other fighters because you only want to see what I say about Floyd so you can just keep labeling me a "hater". And you guys love to claim that its because Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito is my favorite fighter too. The fighter I follow the most is in my avi, but unlike most of your "team members", I see his flaws, his mistakes and admit and discuss them. You guys CANT do that.
Again, I dont care if Floyd pretends to want to fight someone just so he can get his name out there. Thats cool with me and it works. But I do care that Floyd wants to claim he's better than Sugar Ray Robinson and then rematch De LA Hoya or Hatton. You should too.
Dude this is not even close to true. I've sent stuff to your inbox that you've pretended like you don't remember getting. The Merchant criticism that you quoted was in relation to his comments to Shane Mosley after the Adrian Stone fight and you know it. YOU are the one who REFUSES to be consistent or even admit that from time to time you really do MISREPRESENT what I've said entirely.
You insist on this claim that I'm always defending ANYTHING Floyd Mayweather says or does. It's fucking annoying because I'd rather post about a million other things, but you just won't let your misinterpretations go. I don't know how many fucking times I've posted that I want to see Floyd fight the best and that he's not better than Ray Robinson, but you stay insisting that I don't believe that even when I say it OVER AND FUCKING OVER AGAIN.
THAT'S why I call you a hater...you just can't let it go.
Yes he was...and he turned it down.

Had Pacquiao, who has won titles in five divisions, accepted the 30-percent split, he could have earned his biggest payday, upwards of $10 million to $15 million. Arum said that is not the way Pacquiao thinks.
Golden Boy never made a 20 million dollar offer. Unless you have a link that confirms that but I highly doubt it.
Pacquiao doesn't have the leverage. Oscar can make $20+ mil fighting a number of people. He could make $30 or 40 mil to fight Tito. Pacquiao is DLH's plan D after Mayweather, Hatton and Cotto. Don't think for a minute that DLH doesn't have a plan E or a mind to go back to one of his earlier plans either.
Mayweather isn't taking any calls, Trinidad can't even come close to making an agreeable weight, Hatton is booked for the rest of the year, and Cotto is damaged goods. So what really are his options, at least those that he would consider (as in no Margarito, Winky, etc.)?
If only it was that innocent. You damn near blew a fuse when I said Larry Merchant was a person in the know...lol...talking about how I was being hypocritical.
Fuck it man...Manny Pacquiao didn't want the fight...same as Floyd when he didn't want to fight Winky Wright...and muthafuckers gave him shit for that. It's the same thing man. All you have to do is admit it, but you don't seem to want to. THAT'S why I call you a hater.

Pacquiao's the one with the leverage. He isn't starving by any means, and if Oscar wants him to step up to a weight that may put him at great risk, he has to pay the price. Oscar can find plenty of hungry welterweights willing to take his percentage. However they won't bring in as much money as a PPV with Manny would and they won't be easy pickings for the aging Golden Boy either.

Ok, I'll give you.
Just one question, how is that different than Mayweather's dealing with just about any fight he's even thought about negotiating recently? The only reason why I ask is because you've hounded me over the fact that I'm a fan of him and I just don't understand why you get so upset about it. I really don't see any difference in that and what most fighters do...like Pacquiao did in this case. Clearly, he didn't want the fight and that's cool, whatever.
I've never hounded you for being a fan of Floyd. The problem is that you and many others on this site have no problem with labeling anyone who doesn't agree with everything that Floyd does as "haters". I don't hate Floyd. My problem with Floyd is that he was the best fighter in the world not fighting the most logical opponents around him.
I didnt LIKE De La Hoya vs. Mayweather I, but I could tolerate it. There was his big money fight right? When that one passed, I was excited to see what was next you know. He got the big money fight that people were dissapointed in, that played out like most experts and hardcore fans knew would play out. Now its time for Floyd to show why he's the best. Then, Mayweather vs. Hatton was announced. I disliked it more than Mayweather vs. DLH I because I personally never believed the Hatton hype. Anyone who truly watched Hatton's latest fights up to May/Hatton knew that Hatton wasn't the fighter he was being hyped up to be by HBO and the promoters. But it happened, oh well. Another big money/low risk fight in the bag. Ok, now FINALLY we can see some REAL boxing. Nope, Mayweather/DLH 2 is in the works. See the pattern?
Now, De La Hoya/Pacquiao is a good fight.......................for Pacquiao. Thats a TRUE challenge. Pacquiao shouldn't get much hate for this because this fight is MORE risk than reward for someone that started out as a STRAWEIGHT. Floyd was doing this with the fighters that weren't the biggest threats in the division. If Floyd was negotiating a fight with Bernard Hopkins or Roy Jones, I guarantee he wouldn't get hate, but he was negotiating a fight with someone he already beat decisively for a fight no one wanted to see. Even if it was just for marketing purposes, it still doesn't compare to what Pac was doing. Know what I mean?
It could be possible that even he believed this was a very dangerous fight health wise and he wanted to maxamize his reward for risking his well being. Another reason could be that he just wanted to ENTERTAIN the notion of a fight between him and DLH just to raise his stock a little more with casual fans. This fight certainly got some people talking and in this case, any exposure was good exposure. Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao being mentioned in the same sentence. It doesn't hurt marketability.

Right, he just didn't want the fight...which is cool whatever, but his excuse was about the money, which was my point...Top Rank and it's fighters are so hypocritical.
you sumavabeesh, you asked me to tell you.
its not about money
