Boxing!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about some of our biggest fights the sport has seen!!!!!!!!!
:boxing:This is by far the most thrilling sport there is today. No other sport can get me going like boxing can. The butterflies during the pre fight introductions, the goosebumbs during the action in the middle of the ring, and finally the anticipation of the decision at the end of the night. The wars we have all witnessed over the years in all the divisions, the past, the Robinson Lamottas, Ali Fraziers,Pryor Arguellos, Duran Leonards, Hearns Hagler, Bowe Holyfields, Tyson Holyfield, Lewis Holyfield, to modern day classics of yester years, DLH Mosley 1, Trinidad Vargas, Gatti Wards, Morales Barreras, Pac Morales, JMM Pacs. Corrales Castillos, and now we have Marg Cotto....And so on and so forth. We are blessed at the fact that we have been able to watch wars in the ring, as well as pure boxing at its finest. Watching Pernell Whitaker absolutely mezmorize opponents in the ring with his uncanny style of making people miss, all while hitting an opponent with flush counter shots. Watching Roy Jones Jr, continue to move up and weight while maintaining blazing hand speed and overall skill inside that ring that only comes around every 50 or so years. And yes, watching Floyd Mayweather, who some may not like, but the way this man conducts himself in the ring is a thing of beauty.
This is what boxing is all about, watching at times, two warriors slugging it out, wondering how the fuck these two men are still standing and trading toe to toe....Bowe Holyfield 1 round 10, The uppercut that sent shockwaves through the crowd and the television that night that left Holyfield out on his feet. Only to the the true warrior come back and win the second half of the round, regrouping and landed hard right hands one after another. Watching Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti 1, pounding on each other for all 10 rounds, until in the 9th round, Ward hit Gatti with a patented left hook to the body that made us all crawl over in pain just watching it. Gatti would go onto finish the fight, and fight a round 12 on true heart and desire. Then we had Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo 1. A round in which the likes that we may never see again. Both men standing toe to toe the entire 9 rounds prior, with both landing vicious hooks in the pocket. Corrales is floored by a huge left hook, and once more with a left right combination. Proceeding to loose his mouthpiece, get up, lose a point, and go on to knock Castillo silly in his own corner forcing Referee Tony Weeks to call a halut to the fight.
Other fighters that arent so much talked about, like Emanuel Augustus who brings it every time he steps in the ring. His fight in 2001 with Micky Ward won fight of the year honors, and was a complete battle of atrition. Both men landed over 300 punches and threw well over 1000 combined. For 10 rounds, they waged war, most often with Augustus back to the ropes, all the while throwing and landed huge accurate counter shots to Ward. Ward would go on to win a UD that night, but the winner didnt matter, it was the simple fact that we got to see a true classic on Cable Television.
This is what the sport is about, we are blessed to be able to see so many good fights, and blessed with the technology today to go back and watch the great fights from years before. Thank God for boxing, because if it wasn't for it......................I'd probably watch a lot of baseball!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the Read guys, Care to discuss some great fights, feel free!!!!:boxing:
