When Margarito first approached floyd about a fight, Floyd said, "later would be greater". I think Margarito has a pretty good argument that "later" is right about now.
I for one, still don't believe Floyd is truly retired. He's young, still in his prime, and he hasn't truly solidified his WW reign. His legacy prior to WW reign in my opinion is secure though but that's another arguement. A win over margarito would legitimize his WW tenure and easily put him in the top 20 of all time.
This fight could happen before or after Margarito's rematch with Paul Williams. But if Margarito avenges his loss against Paul Williams (which I'm not sure he can do, but that's another arguement too) then a fight would PBF would be HUGE!
I can see the build up right now... old WW king vs New WW king... the marketing for this fight would be easy.. Floyd would talk all this crap about never losing the title in the ring so he's still champ... Margo would say I'm the real WW champ cause i fought more top ranked WWs... I could go on and on.
A win for margarito puts him in the stratosphere with other mexican legends... a win for PBF legitimizes his WW reign and easily puts him in the top 20 greatest fighters of all time.
So, should Margarito start calling out floyd? (I know it's hard not to bash floyd here at NSB, but try. I'm trying to keep this thread a credible one - same thing for the Margo bashers).
He barely won bronze in his other Olympic appearance, however, it seems this event he could easily take gold.
Just like he would easily win his fights.
Gotta love those woulda couldas,
Floyd "woulda, coulda" Mayweather Jr. - He doesn't have to prove what he can do, because he woulda done it anyway.
Knocking Floyd's Olympic performance = desperation
If you don't think Floyd is already one of the 50 best p4p fighters of all time then I can do nothing for you.
I said Floyd was top 50. Try reading next time.
the talent and skills are there, but the resume isn't... he's only had 4 fights at WW. 1 fight against Margarito isn't going to magically put him in the top 50. If Margarito was lineal/unified/undisputed WW champ with atleast 5 solid defenses of his lineal/unified/undisputed championship then I'd say yes defeating Margarito would make floyd a top 50 all-time WW maybe even top 30 all-time WW champ.
Can you name 50 WW's that would beat Floyd?
let's be realistic here. A win over margarito is a good win but it doesn't make anyone an all-time great (ask Williams and Santos)
You keep bringing up Williams and Santos as if they're relevant in this conversation.
yeah exactly everybody says floyd would do a lot of things, even himself said he was gonna do a lot of things, but he never does, i really hope he stays out of the sport, he should be on the sprint race representing USA for the olympics, he has a shot. the 100 meter would be perfect.

and yet arum is already making preparations for margarito/clottey 2 weeks after the war between cotto and margarito. by your logic, shouldn't arum way a couple more weeks before trying to make this fight???
good point
but i think it's little too early to call margo out for ducking though ... right now i'll say he's looking for a big money fight (w ODLH)
if he does fight clottey then it definitely looks like he's avoiding PW tho
its one thing to duck a fighter for years and another thing to not make a fight happen not even 2 weeks after Margarito just finished fighting a war against cotto. margarito vs williams will happen dont doubt that early next year i would bet!

Its been less than 2 weeks since he fought Cotto and already he's ducking Williams? :lol1:
isn't that the same thing they said after everyone of of floyd's fights ever since margarito called out floyd when floyd was a 140 lber???
you mean like how williams is calling margarito out for a rematch and margarito wants nothing to do with williams?

Floyd's retired though, Margarito is not.
How many times did Margarito call out Floyd when Floyd was still active?
Margarito has called out Floyd numerous times already, no point in continuing to call out a fighter when the fighter wants nothing to do with you.

WTF is the point? he challenged Floyd and instead he was a little bitch refused and then later retired! i doubt floyd ever comes back but if he does he needs to grow some balls and say u know wat margarito im fuckin ready for u. but he wont its a shame because fights like these are what makes boxing bigger. but floyd could careless about boxing he only cares about himself!
Don't know about you, but where I'm from he said he was "looking" at the Marg/Cotto winner. Just like he was looking at Mora, Pac, and I think Trinidad was even mentioned. I don't believe the man ever said he would fight the winner of Cotto/Marg.
Oh and here ya go. Before the fight between Cotto/Marg even took place ODLH said he would not fight Margarito. Now explain how he's going back on his word???

Which one is it?
Yeah, i read that article aswell, but i also read one where he says he's considering the winner of Cotto/Margarito. Marg won, and now he's no longer interested in the winner of that bout.
First it was "i wont fight a fellow P.Rican because my wife is Puerto Rican, and we live in Puerto Rico"
Now its "i wont fight a fellow Mexican, because im Mexican, and i dont want to be hated by my own people"
So now he's looking to make a fight at 147, with a guy who's has fought as high as 135 only once. So much for trying to go out with the biggest fight possible! LOL.

I also thought he said he would fight the winner of Margo Cotto.. i don't have any links though.. but ODLH is a promoter so most of the things that come out his mouth is political bullcrap any way

i think marg should call out floyd. Whats the worst that could happen. If floyd says no then floyd would look like a bitch. If he says yes then we would have a hell of a fight.
Hmmm? Maybe because he said he wanted the winner of Cotto/Marg. Dont know about u, but where im from, when a man gives his word, he's usually held to it.
