Kelly Pavlik: "I want to fight the best. People talk and ask about why I am fighting Bernard Hopkins. You’ve got a legend right here. I don’t know about Calzaghe – I guess I would have to shoot him in the foot to get him to stop running from me. All I can tell you is that I will train as hard as I can to get in the best shape that I can be in – for Bernard Hopkins".
Errr no I think Kessler is better than Pavlik cos I see it with my own two eyes. He's just a better boxer.
Kessler has fought the best fighter out of either of their records in Calzaghe.
Taylor is the only name which puts his Pavlik's win resume over Kessler.
As an American, I'll cosign all of this.
Pavlik's resume is better because of the Taylor win and the fact that Kessler couldn't beat Calzaghe.
I do think Kessler is a better fight though in ability. I think Kessler would take a head-to-head matchup as well. That is a fight I would love to see by the way.
So basically you thinking Kessler is better than Pavlik is based purely on assumption even though Pavlik has fought better fighters?

Because 15 pds is a lot for the middle champ to come up and then go back to 160 to defend his title again if Kelly keeps doing this it will be very hard for him to make 160 .
Some of you think weight is nothing , its probably the most important single thing in boxing , lots of fights are won or lost on the scales .
That's why the middleweight champ should be fighting middleweight fights. Instead of fighting near 44year old fighters who are only going to get older instead of better.
I never said his resume was better than Pavlik's. Jermain Taylor is the best name on either guy's win column. But I do think Taylor is vastly overrated. Their resumes arent that different.
I think Kessler would pick Taylor apart at 168 and he's simply a better all round fighter than Pavlik.

I believe Bernard will beat Pavlik and then retire. Then MAYBE Calzaghe will fight Pavlik to which when Calzaghe beats him, people will say 'oh his overrated' no winning with people here.

Well, apparently these days the fighters themselves don't think too much of it either.
Pavlik fighting at 160 then 175 against Hopkins is a little steep, doesn't wana mess around with his weight too much won't help him.
The fight would most likely be at 168, poss 170 as Calzaghe struggled with 168 then, as for now well, tougher still. Plus Pavlik will hopefully wind up fighting Abraham some day anyhow, it's Joe that doesn't have much time.
Honestly i want calzaghe to retire after the roy jones jr. fight so pavlik can fight abraham instead, that would be a much more interesting fight and ten times more entertaining.
Have to say I agree with this. He's getting Roy as young as he can get him, and Pavlik a little more in prime and more money. So in that sense it's the right way round in terms of getting the most possible credit and money out of em. That is of course if he fights Kelly afterwards which we shouldn't be surprised if he doesn't.
If he does fight Pavlik, there should be no catch weight (like with Hopkins) and it should be at 175. If Calzaghe is so "feather fisted" then it shouldn't be a problem. I don't understand why a catch weight of 170 is needed for the Hopkins fight. If Pavlik is as tough as some of these people think he is, 175 should have been the weight. There would have been no catch weight if he fought Paul Williams (for Williams).
It amazes me how people say this crap. If they do fight it might be in the second half of next year and Joe will have aged that bit more so Kelly might have a good chance but did none of you tools watch Calzaghe-Kessler? Kessler is a beast who hits very hard and I think would give Pavlik everything he could handle. Calzaghe managed to find a way to negate Kessler's advantages and win comprehensivley. Go and fucking educate yourselves ffs.
Many, many of you should follow this advice.

I agree with you. It's one thing to not like a fighter, but to just totally disregard Calzaghe and call him a "bum" is ignorant IMO. Pavlik sure is getting a lot of mileage out of beating Jermaine Taylor who looked awful in his fights leading to Pavlik. Calzaghe is 45-0 and unified the crown by beating two young champpions in their prime that many picked to beat him. He made 20+ title defenses and no they were not all bums. But Calzaghe sucks now? Pavlik has one title defense over a weak opponent and now he's fighting Calzaghe's 43 year old left overs and we're supposed to praise him?He has business in his own division that he has not taken care of. It's like talking to a brick wall with some of the people who's posts are based on emotions and not facts.
Its simply good sense to fight Jones now and Pavlik after.
Calzaghe has wanted to fight Jones for the last decade, now with Jones basically begging him for the fight after years of turning a blind eye - can you blame Joe for jumping at the chance? Better to do it now before Jones gets whacked on the chin up at heavyweight or something and his marketability goes down the drain.
Likewise with Pavlik, a win over Hopkins will build momentum for the Calzaghe fight especially if he KO's Hopkins. Both guys make a shed load more money to fight next year.
Everyone wins.

Listen guys i am a huge RJJ fan and i would much prefer to watch Rjj fight than Calzaghe ,but i cant see Roy beating Calzaghe at this stage of their careers!
Maybe ten years ago Jones might have won ! but not now!

Looks like you ignored the second part of his question...so here it is, who did Kessler beat? What makes his resume better than Pavliks?

Mikkel Kessler.
I don't know why you're all complaining anyway, Calzaghe will fight Pavlik if they both with their next fights.
I think Joe will retire after the Jones fight.
Miranda? :lol1:
Why is he worth mentioning again?
Looks like you ignored the second part of his question...so here it is, who did Kessler beat? What makes his resume better than Pavliks?
Its a fight id like to see and i hope it happens. But i wouldnt say Calzaghe is running from Pavlik, he's almost at the end of his career now and is trying to make as much money as he can in his last few fights.
To be honest i dont think he would get the credit he deserved even if he beat Pavlik. He would from me as i think Pavlik is a great fighter, but everyone was saying Lacy was the next big thing, the next Tyson who was gonna KO Calzaghe. But when Calzaghe beat him it then changed to Lacy was a bum anyway. Same with Hokpins, everyone said Hopkins would beat him, yet when Calzaghe won, it changed to Hopkins is an old man. Even with Kessler, sure his resume isnt that great, but its easy to see hes a very good fighter, yet Calzaghe gets no credit for that win either.
I think Calzaghe will beat RJJ then fight Pavlik in his last fight, i hope so and it will be hard to pick a winner of that fight.
But if Calzaghe was to retire after the RJJ fight i still wouldnt say he was running from Pavlik.
