who had the better career Toney or Oscar Dela Hoya ? Oscar 6 time world Champion with wins over Whitaker ,Chavez,Quartey,Vargas,Camacho ,
James Toney 3 time world champ he has win over Evander Holyfield,Vassiliy Jirov,Mike McCallum,Nunn ,Barkley
DLH made more money. Toney is rated higher all-time for obvious, obvious reasons. Fighting the best opposition doesn't make you great, beating them does. Toney beat a lot better fighters than Oscar did a lot closer to their prime as well. If simply fighting great opposition makes you great then throw Zab Judah among the all-time greats as well.

DLH had the better career although Toney is the better fighter.
THIS IS A TOUGH ONE...
Oscar De La Hoya-Great fighter young in his career. Defeating Rafael Ruelas, Genarro Hernandez,JCC 2x,Sweet Pea,Ike Quartey,Oba Carr, and others. The thing with Oscar is that he has LOST all of his BIG,DEFINING FIGHTS. Of course, with the exception of the Vargas fight. Oscar has lost to Trinidad, Mosley 2x,Hopkins,and PBF. All of those fights were career defining fights, and Oscar failed to define himself within those fights. Dont get me wrong, ODLH is a great fighter, but maybe thats why he should really consider fighting Marg, to have a chance to still win A CAREER DEFINING FIGHT.
James Toney-Extremely talented fighter at 160,and 168. With his KO,coming from behind with Michael Nunn, to destroying Iran Barkley. Toney has borught Sports Entertainment to the next level with his showboating, skill, and attitude. After Toney lost to Roy Jones, he lacked focus at 175, and would not show his skill again until he reached Cruiserweight. James looked great at cruiser, and was undefeated his entire run there. The night when Toney beat up an old Holyfield, I thought he looked great. If Toney couldve stayed like that he possibly couldve taken over the division, but once again due to his lack of fucus, Toney suffered. His career is just about over as well as Oscar's.
If I had to pick though...It would be Oscar De La Hoya
I think all you got to do is look at it today.
Both Oscar and Toney are past their prime and old now but can Toney get a fight with the top guys still? - No. Oscar can fight anyone he chooses, this is why I'd say he has the better career.
Toney has beaten the better opposition, although you could say DLH has fought the better opposition, he hasn't beaten most of them though. So I'll go with Toney, titles from middleweight to cruiserweight, would've included heavyweight had he not tested positive for steroids.
