I blame Team GB rather than Gavin himself, considering that Gavin couldn't shift any more weight safely. They should have known he wasn't up to making the lightweight limit anymore and should have prepared him for light welterweight some time ago.
He isn't the only boxer though:

i aint got any sympathy for him he was probs slouching about thinking he was above the rest cause he was on for a medal
What!?
Did you read the article dude? Gavin has been fighting at the weight above most the time recently, he has grown out of lightweight
gavin has been doing mainly pro training this year and has got alot bigger and gained muscle as a result, this meant he can no longer make the weight but cudnt be entered at light welter as bradley saunders was already qualified, he may have been able to make the weight for tomorrows weigh in but he would have to continue doing it throughout the olympics and therefore dehydration could be a severe problem and because of this his coach pulled him out
how the fuck can u not be motivated enough to lose the weight for the olympics.
he probably has offers to turn pro and felt a poor showing at the Olympics would put the kibosh on any lucrative deal. Just a theory.

Too many pints and potatoes with Ricky.
Yea, yea, I know Ricky makes weight...I guess Gavin just doesn't have the same training discipline/desire.
He was the big British hope, :(. I think he was our most likely gold medal

It is quite pathetic not being able to make weight given that you have invested so many years just being able to qualify to the Olympics. It shows a complete lack of discipline.
Too many pints and potatoes at the pub with Ricky is my guess.
hey does ricky have snags making the 140lb limit? nope, sometimes he turns up at 139lb...
