"Margarito is not a great boxer," Clottey said. "You can see all of his punches coming. I was catching everything he threw. Even though his defense is not very good, he takes a hard punch. I thought it was not good for Cotto to spend so much time on the ropes, taking punches.
Clottey, left, claims he had little trouble dealing with Antonio Margarito until a hand injury forced Clottey to take his foot off the gas.
"I was beating Margarito until I hurt my hand. But I never feared any of his punches because I'm a very good defensive fighter and I caught most of his punches."
I think Clottey did better work in 4 rounds with Marg than Williams did in 12 rounds with Marg.
I agree..
He has those short popping shots..
You hear them..
Williams jab was like a flick w/ the back of his glove..
Williams did win tho..
On another note,
Doode what is up with your Reid avys lol..
U gotta wierd fetish goin on? or are u a chick
The truth is, Clottey was handling Marg with ease for the first 4 rounds..
He wasn't just winning, he was landing nice bombs..
I don't know the real story whether he hurt his hand or not.
I do remember Al from SHOWTIME sayin Clottey was waving his hand in like the 5th sayin it was bothering him..
I would still pick Clottey over Marg..
I think you'll see what I mean after tonight

Thank you.
I can understand if a fighter was ordered to continue fighting with a broken hand like they did in the olden days.
But in the nowadays, one has the option to Not continue fighting due to a
severe injury. :boxing:
margarito had no injury
Comparing their injuries is like comparing apples and oranges. NO ONE knows how painful or how their performance was effected based on the injury type except them. Not to mention Clottey's main weapon is his left hand. Face it, Clottey SCHOOLED Margarito for the first 4 rounds and went the full 12 so I don't think his toughness should be questioned.
Thank you.

Who doesn't school Margarito for the first 4 or even 6 rounds??????????
if pic clottey in a rematch and id bet all my points.. ...he was really beating margarito and has never lost a fight he was DQ'd in a fight with baldimir another fight he was winning
DQ for headbutting
I think the ref is warned him couple of times before taking this decision
lol margarito only said his hand was hurt too ..becuase he knew clotteys was hurt and he didint want a rematch in a fight he knows he couldnt win.. that was obvious in the interview after the fight..you could tell he was lying.. fumbling his words and stuttering...i like margarito but i think clottey will beat him fairly easily

A lose is a lose they wont turn it to a W just because someone has a hand problem
Anyway I think the message Clottey is saying is after I am finished with Zab Judah you are next Margarito

I agree!!!!
Margo detractors ALWAYS want to pretend that they dont know this.
It's like being in the same life raft again. Despite being saved.
haha annoying haters. They'll get it.
When Tony unifies the entire Welterweight division and defends titles.
That's just a fucking matter of time.

This is gettin old. Both fighters were hurt and less than 100% in that fight. One kept fightin and won, the other didn't.

I hate the "IF" excuses, Clottey needs to realize great fighters hurt their hands all the time and still fight through it to win. Look at Floyd against Chavez, dude litterally took a knockdown because of his hand injury yet he did what he had to to still get the win.
From a previous thread. If you're going to bring up Clottey's bruised hand (oooooh), then brink up the wrist and the ankle, be fair, thanks.
And for the record Margarito is not a great boxer, but he just might be a great fighter.
I don't like how people are not objective about Clottey's performance against Margarito. He performed well but is not the underrated beast people make him out to be. Here are some facts that people tend to ignore that played a role in the fight
1. Margarito was coming of off a 9 month layoff, in which he had fought 1:38 against Manuel Gomez, in effect he hadn't really fought since his victory over Cintron 20 months earlier.
2. Margarito hurt his ankle in training camp and it was widely reported that he had to be off of his feet for a few days before the fight.
3. Clottey did not break any hand, in fact he admitted in his next fight against Corrales on showtime in the interview that he had only suffered from swollen hands.
4. Margarito injured his wrist in the fight, to the extent that he did have surgery on his wrist after the fight and before he was able to resume training.
I'm not saying Clottey is not good or not worthy of another shot, I just see Margarito breaking him down this time. Margarito was able to throw a record amount of punches and still win despite actually being injured and out of peak condition, Clottey completely disappeared because he had pain in his fists. Style wise Clottey was making him look bad but so has just about everyone else early, I see the rematch turning out differently and I'd bet all my points on it. One more thing Clottey fades late and seems like he doesn't want to fight anymore, aside from the Corrales fight it has always happened, even in recent fights against very average competition.
