You don't lost three of your last five and stay rated that high in honest ratings. But he beat the top light heavyweight and then beat the #4 pound for pound and so that's what got him up there. Then he lost to another top pound for pound fighter. So he turned around his career and then he just recently lost.

People take the word of Ring Magazine and other publications because it saves them time from having to make up their own mind. Not everyone is a savvy consumer, like the people here on BoxingScene. Look at Roy Jones, when he was removed from the P4P list his career went south fast. He's been having trouble landing meaningful fights that can once again elevate him to the status he was once at. Why isn't Victor Luis Lozoya ranked higher than Margarito? Since Marg lost to Williams in a razor thin decision he has put together three impressive stoppage wins against increasingly better opposition including the ranked number one. I would guess that in the opinion of the Ring's staff Margarito has the beating of Williams in a rematch. Razor thin? Try clear. I won't argue that it was a close fight (I had it 115-113), but he clearly beat him. I mean I see him not being in the pound for pound list because that is subjective opinion, but in the welterweight rankings, Williams deserves to be #1. So he's a full-time fighter, even though he's been on the semi-retired circuit of fighting once a year in PPV special attraction fights since losing twice to Jermain Taylor? If I get a part time job at the Gap and I decide I want to work full time. My boss (except Hopkins doesn't need permission) lets me. Am I not a full time worker? Hopkins is fighting 2 times a year this year. That makes him a full time fighter imo.

P4P I would rank most on the list above Calzaghe, maybe others see something in him, I don't.
