I'll start
- Boxer Ultiminio "Sugar" Ramos killed both Davey Moore and Jose Blanco in the ring.
- Jim Morrison attended Ali vs Frazier I before moving to Paris, he died 3 months later.
- Benny Leonard retired from boxing and became a referee, he ended up suffering a heart attack during a bout and died in the ring.
- After becoming addicted to cocaine and crack Aaron Pryor shadow boxed in the streets for pocket change.
Thats all for now..Add your own
Ted "Kid" Lewis who won the world welterweight title in 1915 - Introduced the mouthpiece. He had crooked teeth, and when he got hit, his upper lip always got cut. Somebody in a London dental clinic made a rubber gum shield to put in his mouth.
On March 27th, 1982 both Wilfredo Gomez and Jeff Chandler defended their titles via 6th round knockouts..... nothing special about that right?
Not unless you know that BOTH fights officially ended at 2:28 of the round!!
That truly is amazing! Now if those two had met in the ring, I would've been one of the first to get tickets.
i know!!! ... out of interest which of todays fighters would you like to see fighting by those rules???
(now there is a thread if i could be arsed to make it!!!)
that's what i wanted to ask too. who would you like to see in the old rules way.
i didn't want to sidetrack this thread though.
make the thread , god. i'll be your first reply.
Correct me if I am wrong but I think that the Galaxy brothers Khaosai and Khaokor of Thailand were the first twins to become world champions?
Nice one!
A few more:
- George Foreman won his first heavyweight title on his birthday.
- Featherweight Bobby Chacon was once at a bar when a couple 220 pound football linemen started mocking him for his size, they said he was too small to be a fighter. He ko'd both of them with one punch.

Frank Sinatra took pictures for Life magazine at the Ali vs Frazier I

yea, a round was the length of time it took for a boxer to get knocked over, then they had 30 seconds to scratch and they were off again!!!
i'd pay $50 bucks to see one fight with the old rules......
In the fight to the finish days the most number of rounds fought was 276 rounds!!
The bout was between Patsy Tunney and Jack Jones and took place in 1825 in Chesire, England.
god , what did they call the rules in the old days?
queen's rules? where you fight a round 'til someone goes down and the new round starts after the guy gets up? i think that's how the rules went......
anybody here know? just curious......
the legend of david tua
not many people know this but...... when tua was a young boy he had an accident. back in samoa before his family moved to new zealand , little mafaufau was climbing a tree with his friends. he had an accident and fell off the coconut tree landing face first on some rocks and a pile of coconuts. little mafaufau was badly hurt and the doctors had to replace his entire jaw and lower face with steel and titanium implants. that's how little mafaufau grew up to be the legendary fighter impervious to punches we now know today.
true story.
Correct me if I am wrong but I think that the Galaxy brothers Khaosai and Khaokor of Thailand were the first twins to become world champions?
That's true, first and only I believe.
So you think boxers get title shots way too early now?
Don't tell that to Kid Azteca (Luis Villanueva) who fought for 30 years (1929-1961) at the highest level (fought 6 former champs) and NEVER got a title shot!
He is still alive and at age 88 will probably enter the WBC rankings at number 1 in the lightweight division for "past achievements".
Kid Azteca passed away in 2002 ;)
The French fighter Georges Carpentier started his carrer as a Fly-
weight and ended his carrer as a Heavyweight. He fought in every divison
boxing has to offer!
