I think this fight might be to close to call. I give Cotto a slight edge because he is an all around good boxer puncher. I think his body attack would be a key factor in a fight against a guy the size of Williams.
This will be the first time I will bet against Cotto, Williams by UD.
The guy already beat Margarito convincingly and took his best shots in the process I dont think Cotto who is much smaller can deal with a nonstop punching machine with the height and reach of Williams.
i honestly dont think anyone can
I admit Cotto is a fierce body puncher. But some of his fans need to chill.
"Cotto will be re-arrange all of his bodily organs"
"He will shatter his ribs into tiny pieces"
"He will be hospitalized for 7 days and 7 nights after Cotto is done with him"
You guys crack me up.
Williams would be too much for Cotto. Margarito tried his best to get Williams out and couldn't. It's not happening at welterweight Williams is not being stopped.
co-sign.... cotto is not hagler... the only way cotto can take out williams is if he did what hagler did to hearns... and thats not cottos style... nobody is beating paul williams

Time for some education silly pants. Quintana beat Williams for 1 reason, and 1 reason alone. Williams lack of amateur experience. I called it before the fight. Williams would look bad and get caught with left hands all night long.
It boiled down to the fact that Quintana did have an extensive amateur background, and hence extensive experience fighting southpaws, Williams on-the-other-hand did not.
Go to any amateur show, watch two novice southpaws fight each other, they are some of the best fights you will ever see because neither fighter has a clue how to block left hands.
What Quintana did had much less to do with his boxing abilities than it had to do with Paul Williams inexperience with southpaws.
AWSOME POST!!!! i completly agree
I second that too. Great post. Same reason why Antonio Margarito has problems with SouthPaw stance fighters. That's one of the advantages in favor of Cotto this Saturday. I agree that Cotto has what it takes to beat Paul Williams, but IMO I see PW winning by SD. I see PW winning by SD agaisnt PBF too.
its not as simple as that ben
body punches beat height therefore cotto beats williams... you say it as if its a calculation thats proven
its whoever inflicts there gameplan on the other fighter the best... if cotto works the inside better than williams can move... than cotto wins
if williams keeps the constant peppering and moving at a distance for 12 rounds... than williams wins.
Exactly...
before the rematch of williams and quintana
if i told you williams would knockhim out in the rematch in the first round
you would also most likely say "The chances of that are slim to none"
I was shocked at both fights. I never expected Quintana to win. AND I never expected Quintana to be KOed in the first round. I was shocked. At least the first time, I enjoyed losing my points. For the second one, I did not bet cause I had the fight "too close". As you may noticed, I have no bets for Cotto-Margarito.
I find this fight as a jojke honestly i mean think about it for a minnit, What do we do against tall fighters? We attack there body. So body punching beats height obviously. Well paul williams is one of the tallest fighters p4p. And cotto is by far without a doubt the best body puncher in the sport, Paul williams would get murderd, Espeacialy since willliams has the tendancy to trade on the inside, cotto with his short arms and tight punches would murder him, it wouldnt even be a competitive fight
I thought of that myself, but then again, PW is quick and elusive enough from the distance to keep Cotto away. He learned from his Quintana loss. As long as he throws over a hundred jabs per round, Cotto is "too small, too short" . He is going to keep Cotto busy all night long. Then again, various devastating left hooks from Cotto will hurt PW. Let's see how many can he assimilate...
or,the smaller man gets into the bigger man's body and works his specialty.just a thought dorian:D
I agree, this seems like a basic boxing question, it just seems simple, im honestly shocked at all the people picking williams to win
Bad comparison. RJJ lost because of DQ. He would've won that fight if not for the DQ. On the other hand PWilliams got very clearly beaten in a 12rd decision.
ur not tellin me nothin.. however that was for the people around here that think roy was losing to montell in the 1st fight
We dont talk about how Montell Griffin outboxed Roy do we? WHy? Cuz in the second fight Roy iced that motherfucker.... Applies here.
Somebody pull up the comparison stats on this fight.
Cotto outboxing williams would be insanity.
He would have to brawl him, no other way about it.
Whats he gonna do? Out Jab someone with a 15 inch reach on him?
