Through 50 years of promoting boxing, Hall Of Fame promoter Mogens Palle has experienced many crazy things.
Now the Denmark-based promoter has a new one to add to his list.
"I am getting phone calls from boxing people and from media types," Palle said Monday.
"They are congratulating me for not winning the WBA super middleweight title purse bid. Sauerland Events will promote our champion, Mikkel Kessler, against the long-inactive German, Danilo Haussler, who has only fought twice since December of 2006.
I said from the start that this was a gross and brutal mismatch and that I wanted to have no responsibility for the health and welfare of the so limited Haussler.
Now the reponsibility for what happens in this terrible mismatch falls only on the shoulders of Sauerland and the WBA."
Sauerland bid $1.14 million to win the purse bid for the bout. Kessler will receive 60 percent of the purse with the remainder to Haussler.
"This is a purse bid I did not want to win," Palle said.
"This fight will happen without my involvement as a promoter. I'm happy for that and happy that the Germans won the purse bid.
I just hope there is no unfortunate injury to Haussler. And I hope they will not hold this in Denmark where it could really hurt the sport of boxing."
It would be. I must say that at this point I would be happy for Froch to fight anyone, though given his age he really needs bigger fights than Sartison right now. I hadn't been aware Bute and Andrade were fighting but that is great news, what are you hoping for, a convincing Bute win so we get another potentially good SMW to throw into the mix? I suppose that would be my favourite, not that I wish any ill on Andrade or anything.
I like Andrade as a person. A true gentleman and a nice guy. He needs to work on his defense and footwork tho.
Bute has a large following in his native Romania and in Canada as well. He could be the future star of the division.
I want to see Kessler beat Palvik and a rematch against Calzaghe
I would like to see this too, but my feeling is that Kessler is basically far too dangerous an opponent to be allowed to join in the current MW - LHW merry- go-round against virtually any of the guys involved. Pavlik has plenty of easier and more famous opposition at home, and if he wants a tough one there's Arthur Abraham. Kessler's best bet for me is simply to keep doing what he's been doing, beating the rest of the SMW division, and Bute would be a good one, and Miranda is a realistic target, eventually Pavlik or Taylor will have to fight him.
As for Calzaghe - Kessler 2 I'd love this, because it was a brilliant boxing match, but I don't think it will happen in a month of Sundays.
You could say that he'd be a good measuring stick for Froch as to how he stands compared to Kessler. Much in the same way as Andrade is for Bute.

Not too dissimilar to the Kessler fight. I think he'd stick around for most of it, but Froch's punching power would have him hanging back and not doing much. He'd probably be a bit more successful in his own attacks because Froch is very slow compared to Kessler, but sooner or later he would become reluctant to throw.
Probably.

How do you reckon he would do against Carl Froch?

I dunno...he really didn't do much against Kessler, so while I'm certain he might make a solid opponent for some of them I don't see him actually being that dangerous.

If Kessler didn't take too much out of the guy I think that Sartison will be pretty dangerous for any of the top guys at 168.

The Sartisson bout was a good 'tune up' fight to come back from defeat on. Sartisson would KO Häussler, so that should tell you something about the value of this upcoming match...

Miranda would be a good one, he appears to be the gatekeeper of HBO now, and Kessler would look very good against him I'm sure. Lacy might also be good for exactly the same reasons, Taylor too, but a tougher fight.
I don't know that much about Bute to be honest, is he any good? I really have no idea how good Froch actually is, but I think he'd be too slow to beat Mikkel. Just like you, I'd like to se any of these fights really. Kessler is one of my favourite boxers.
I haven't seen enough of Bute either, but a lot of boxingsites as well as posters in here are pretty high on the guy. I will check him out before he fights Andrade though, so I can give a slightly educated opinion on the outcome of that fight.
Well. I still like to see him against Miranda. Other than that I can think of many fights I'd like to see. The winner of Lacy-Taylor is one. CalzagheII is another. And then there's of course Bute and maybe Froch although that fight won't be so big yet.

Ha ha! So Palle is pretty confident then. Also good to hear him talking this way because it suggests he actually wants Mikkel to fight some good competition, rather than just facing Mandatories.
Who do you want to see Kessler in against Bat?
