who deserves more respect Joe Calzaghe or Wladimir Klitschko ?
at least Wlad has taken on the best available to him ,Joe lives a sheltered life in Britain for 10 years then he goes to the states gets a bit of a lesson by Hopkins runs back to Wales with his tale between his legs and wants to face an old Roy Jones a fighter he previously said he would gain nothing from fighting which was obviously an excuse cause Daddy told him Pavlik would spank him if they ever shaired a ring :boxing:
Its funny cos I see Kessler's immobility as one of his biggest problems and one of the main things Joe was able to exploit to turn the fight around against him. I think if Kessler beats Pavlik it is a stoppage and it is all on the back of that fantastic 1-2 that Kessler possesses.
It is indeed funny. In truth a lot of my praising of Kessler's mobility rests on his performance against Librado Andrade, which was truly one of the best displays of orthodox boxing I have ever seen. Kessler was up on his toes, boxing in and out, fast and sharp, really very impressive. If you haven't seen it I can't recommend it highly enough.
Anyhow, as impressive as that performance was, Kessler does not always box like that. I get the impression that he has decided he doesn't actually need to expend that much energy when he can be almost as effective with a more flat footed approach. I do however, consider him more mobile than Pavlik whichever way he chooses to box.
Kessler and Pavlik are similar in that they are both very orthodox boxers utilising textbook left jab - right hand attacks. You are right that Kelly throws more punches but for me the major diference between the two is that Kessler is much faster and much more mobile. Where Kelly comes forward, kessler boxes in and out. My view on these two is that Kessler outboxes Pavlik to a decision win, but i can understand why you would see it the way you do.

Kessler and Pavlik are very similar fighters IMO. The thing that probably separates them and why I see Pavlik winning a close fight over Mikkel is punch volume. However I doubt this would be enough to get over Joe. Calzaghe is an absolute expert at nulifying his opponents' strengths. I just think he would fight a very similar fight to the one he fought against Kessler and outpoint Pavlik. To be honest I don't even think Kelly would have a puncher's chance as he does his damage through cumulative punishment, which I don't think he would be able to exert given Joe's tactical ring smarts. Also, Joe's chin is too tough to be hurt by an isolated shot. The Kessler fight demonstrated this.

People are putting a lot of stock in that Hopkins knockdown.
Joe's Calzaghe respect for Hopkins was in minuses. He thought he was going to abuse him, on the way to the ring Joe looked like he was walking into a night club not a world championship fight. Sorted himself out quick though, and it was more of a punch and a push by the heavier Hopkins anyway.
Against Pavlik Joe knows he could ship too many. Nobody can against Pav, his punches stay with opponents.
When I checked he was at 6 to 1 odds in the Lacy fight, I know because I bet on Lacy.....
calzaghe was a 6 to1 dog and you bet on lacy? um no. that would be retard style. calzaghe was a slight fav in the odds before the fight happened.

Iv'e stated countless times that i slightly favor Calzaghe over Pavlik by decision but Joe being stopped is not out of the question by any means. Calzaghe was down against Hopkins in his last fight and Bernard is not known for his power. Yes he can punch but unlike Pavlik, it is not something that he is known for. What if Pavlik knocked Calzaghe down? He is a great finisher and will be on the attack. Calzaghe's plan against Pavlik should be to box and give this guy lateral movment. No one has had succuess with trading with Kelly Pavlik. Hes too dangerous and Joe would be fighting Pavlik's fight if he did that.
I agree that Joe should box Pavlik rather than trade with him, because that is what Joe does best, its just common sense really. Obviously no-one can prove for sure what woulkd happen in a hypothetical matchup but my feeling is that Pavlik's power would not be so impressive against Joe, who has won many, many fights by virtue of his ability to walk through his opponents best shots, amongst other things.
I seriously doubt that Pavlik is the hardest puncher Joe would have faced in his career, Kessler for one probably has more single shot 'pop'. Remember, both of Pavlik's impressive KO victories over Taylor and Miranda came not from one-punch KOs but from breaking his opponents down with cumulative punishment. Very impressive, but both of those guys are notorious for gassing down the stretch, so i think the manner of those wins may flatter Pavlik a little. Anyhow, Calzaghe is a guy with an iron chin, excellent stamina and is very hard to hit for an aggressive fighter like Pavlik, who is not a counter puncher. If you were to try and create Pavlik's nightmare opponent it would probably be Joe Calzaghe.
BULL SHIT, he was favorite in the kessler, hopkins, the only fight he wasn't favored in was Lacy and that wasn't a huge margin either. Lacy was favored to beat calzaghe but not a huge favorite in that fight. In the states Calzaghe was a huge favorite in the kessler fight. You could actually make a good amount of money if you had bet on Kessler but since Kessler loss no money would have been made.
When I checked he was at 6 to 1 odds in the Lacy fight, I know because I bet on Lacy.....
Slick, if Calzaghe fought Pavlik like he fought Lacy or Kessler he would embarass Pavlik badly. I think you must know this really. There is no chance in hell that Pavlik would stop Joe and in a Calzaghe fight Pavlik's much vaunted power would suddenly begin to look very average.

i honestly dont know...i hate them both....ill have to say joe deserves more respect as he has a better skill set.....they both have shit resumes, aough wlads isnt his fault as he fights in a shitful era
It isn't Calzaghe's fault he didn't get the biggest fights until the end of his career either. Only the naive or those who expect a fighter to sacrifice the majority of his living for big fights believe that Calzaghe could have fought Hopkins or Jones Jr in their respective primes easily.
Well first Calzaghe has flaws and vulnerabilties that Pavlik could take advantage of with his straight punching and consistant pressure. Pavlik is very consisnat and unlike Kessler and Lacy, he will not be discouraged and will take shots to get them. Calzaghe will also have a hard time at keeping Pavlik off of him becuase with a pressure fighter, you will need to land somthing big in order to get their respect and power is somthing that Joe is not known for at this stage. Taylor and Miranda both punches a lot harder than Calzaghe does.
I'll tell you this, Pavlik would be the hardest fight that Calzaghe would be in and it will be no walk in the park. If he fights Pavlik the way he fought Lacy or Kessler, then he could be beaten or possibly stopped becuase you wouldn't want to trade with Pavlik and give him his chance to land something big. He would need to be on his p's and q's boxing for every minute of every round.
Calzaghe has the ability to adjust his game to his opponents style. i could see Pavlik causing Calzaghe problems early with his right hand but Calzaghe will adjust, outwork him and win a UD.

Not really. Especially Joe, him and Frank have been robbing the British fight fans for years. They are a disgrace to the sport wit their bullshit match ups! At least Fatty had the balls to go over there and fight a prime fighter who decapitated him! Joe was too afraid and knew he would lose so hid like a bitch! He is conning Joe public who know fuck all and is nothing more than a disgrace and a con artist. If you lived in UK and saw what the Sports Network propoganda machine spew about him being a legend and best Brit ever, then you would understand! Barry McGuigan even tried to make out he dominated a prime Hopkins! What a joke! he got schooled by an old one and robbed him! Fuck that old fucking judge, hope he dies of cancer.
First off i live in scotland and secondly.........
Too far.
Yes, styles do make fights, and its been said many times before that Pavlik's style is made for Calzaghe. The reason for that is because it's true. Pavlik has next to no chance against Joe.
Also, styles aside, how does Pavlik beat Calzaghe? Outwork him? No. KO him? Not likely. Would he even be able hit him much? Probably not.

It would be a very good fight and i wouldn't be suprised at all of Pavlik pulled it out with his straight punches, accurate volume punching and consisant pressure.
Trust me, looking at Pavlik and saying that Calzaghe would win is a very easy thing to do and could be misleading. Taylor had every atehletic advantage over Pavlik but that didn't matter. Its the styles that makes the fights. :boxing:
