i always refer back to fights like
Hopkins v Taylor
Dela Hoya v Mosley 2
it dont matter how strongly u finish if u conceed to many of the early rounds and thats exactly what happened in the Hopkins v Taylor
Dela Hoya v Mosley 2 ,Dawson v Johnson fights u deserve to lose
if u watch these fights without scoring u may pick Johnson etc but if u actually get a pen a paper and score the fight u will see that Dawson won at least 6 rounds of this fight
Johnson didn't get "Sturm'd" but I tend to favor the fighters who landed the cleaner, harder shots. Dawson was hurt a few times, and Johnson was not. If you look at the two fighters the next day, you would have a hard time guessing that Johnson was involved in a pro boxing match the day before...
Fortunately that isn't how boxing is scored.

it wasnt a robbery, but given Glen's fight victory, i think he's due a close fight decision, especially in his 'hometown'
but thats not how boxing works
Just to clear things up with my vote :)
I ve voted Dawson won it, because at the time i thought he had it by a point but it really really could have gone either way and maybe if i was watching it at a normal time and sober i might have scored it slightly differently....
Johnson gets the W in the re-match :boxing:
But "robbed"?
I also watched the fight as a Forrest fan and didn't see him winning, at all.
Even if he won the fight (barely at best), that was not a robbery at all.
I agree, the only debate is on how close it might have been. Forrest allowed himself to be bullied in the first half of the fight and under the best case scenario for him he might have won by a point. No robbery for sure.

I already know one of your other alts, as much as you would like to try to deny it, but...
Give me a holler if I'm right!
No. I've been here since 06.
You know what, I was at that fight live in Las Vegas. I thought Mayorga won. Everyone sitting around me was rooting for Forrest, and nobody complained about the decision. When I got back home I read some posts saying that Forrest should have won. I didn't believe that, but when I watched the HBO replay it looked a whole lot different and I could see where Forrest could have won. There are certain intangible things you see live. Most people that watched Mosley-DLH II on TV thought Oscar was robbed, but most of the press and live crowd felt that Shane was landing the much harder punches (plus they weren't hearing the HBO propaganda). I've heard this about other fights that I can't remember this minute too.

I heard someone tell me that Forrest was robbed in his rematch with Mayorga.
How about that?

On this board every close decision will have people crying robbery. Nothing will ever change that either.

a fight that close can not be called a robbery either way... Johnson didn't dominate Dawson by any means. The Woods fight was more of a robbery- it was in England and that shit happens. The Dawson- Johnson fight was in Tampa which is pretty much in Johnson's backyard...

your hating on glen johnson if you dont think he won that fight
it was just like his 3rd fight with Clinton Woods, Johnson won that fight as well, he landed the harder shots

i had it 115-113 johnson upon first viewing- but i havent scored it again and have to admit that i was realy hype for johnson to win and was really excited when he hurt dawson, so I could have been a tad biased....
regardless, i think dawson is smart enough now (we all know he is skilled enough) to choose to outbox Ol' Glen and not slug in a rematch. plus glen will only be older and slower next time around. johnson does NOT know how to cut off the ring- he is a hopeless follower and IMO would lose a rematch lopsidedly.
chads reflexes are much better than roys were when he got ko'ed. Plus when chad chooses too, he has the legs to stay off the ropes, where johnson is dangerous (unless you are a slick counter-punching middleweight with pinpoint accuracy, in the prime of your hall of fame career and your name is Bernard Hopkins)...
I had Dawson 7-5. What made it appear to be a bad decision was that Johnson won his rounds more convincingly. But the bottom line is that he didn't win enough rounds.
I had Dawson winning. In Glen's best rounds Dawson came right back at him and landed combinations of his own. Dawson proved to me that he can gut it out and go to war basically.
Johnson acted as if he were homeless after the bout.
I did find the "paying bills" comment to be ridiculous for sure.
