In my honest opinion, I don't think Mikkel Kessler has done anything special in his career and is currently sitting on his title and fighting overmatched mandatory boxers in a thin division. His record is 40-1, with 37 of those fights in Denmark. His biggest name victories come from Anthony Mundine and Librado Andrade.
He recently backed out of a fight with Edison Miranda at the last minute, apparently without reason though I have heard he wanted to regain and hold onto the title instead of fight Miranda but have seen nothing quoted only heresay.
Unlike the Tunney's of this site, I am able to say that I would like to learn from the Kessler fans about why they like him, what he has accomplished, and where you see him in the future.
Another hate thread against a European fighter from MWMerlino. :ugh:
tunney, i like you bro, but really, you need to stop with this shit! seriously! ffs!!!!!
So where is he going from here? He waiting for Calzaghe to retire so he can move up to LHW? Who is a contender in SMW?
If Taylor ever has a fight and is successful/convincing he could be help breathe some more fresh air into the division.
Kessler is 29. It's not like he won't have chances and opportunities ahead of him.
He did try and tackle the best 168 pounders in the last 10 years and he did alright.
He's got fights ahead of him. I don't see him sitting too long. He had to have a fairly easy fight after that loss.
He's got the skills to achieve and I bet he'll be in some excellent fights.

This is only the second thread I've ever made--the first was in boxing history. If you're going to put me on ignore why come in here and stalk me after the fact?
And on top of that you didn't even add anything to the thread...
He attempted to unify SMW within 7 fights, 2 unification fights. He fought Mundine, Andrade and Lucas in between the unification fights with Calzaghe and Beyer after beating Sicia. Straight after his first loss he picks up another belt, Miranda-Kessler were in a deep negotiations but Kessler backed out because he wanted his belt back. If Miranda had beaten Abraham I suspect Kessler-Miranda would have been made for a belt. Miranda on the other hand wasn't considered a top 5 SMW at the time because he had only beaten Banks etc.
I am a fan of Kessler but I also agree with you. I think that, although he is one-dimensional he is a top class fighter. Great jab and a great right hand. His win over Mundine was very impressive and he looked good early against Joe before Joe worked him out and eventually outthought and outworked him. I agree though that he needs to face better competition. He is in his prime right now and he needs to use it.
Yes. I didn't say so in the first post but I think he looks great from what I've seen, but is currently overrated because anyone can look great but if they accomplish nothing they deserve little.
