Obviously, Paul Williams moving up 13 pounds in weight to challenge the Middleweight Champ of the world, Kelly Pavlik is extremely close to being officially signed. I am a big fan of both fighters, but I do have to say that if Pavlik beats Williams he won't get all the credit that he should. Everyone will say oh Williams is a blown up welterweight, who got picked apart by Quintana in their first match. On the other hand, if Williams beats Pavlik, he will get a huge amount of credit, and depending on how decisive his victory is, his career will have a significant boost... Does anybody agree with this statement?
It's stupid because Williams should be fighting a lesser opponent first when going up in weight then challenging Pavlik. He hasn't even fought anyone at middleweight and he is going to challenge the best? Doesn't that sound retarded to you?
NO it doesnt sound retarded to me at all, I think its brilliant management from Williams people, People fight to get to the top guys and here is williams getting a shot straight away in a fight he is expect to lose. its a WIN-WIN situation for him because there would be NO pressure on him to win.
If he loses then he was suppose to but if he pull off a win then he becomes the greatest thing since slice bread...cant you see that?
:dunno:? Paul williams weighed 164lbs for his second fight with quintana. It is obvious that he is killing himself to make 147.
That isnt bad all the top guys at 147 weigh in at 165 and over....Cotto, Margarito and even Clottey.

pavlik has absolutely nothing to gain in fighting williams.
Only reason why I see Williams would take this fight is because he is after all having weight problems in 147 witch is expected to happen soon and well, who can bring more money in 154,160 divs than Pavlik? I say it is goosen just trying to squeeze as much as he can from Williams before he is done, maybe he saw something in the first Quintana fight(his sloppiness in fundamentals) that he didn't like. Truth is that there is nothing that Williams will be able to do to keep a solid middleweight like Pavlik who's power is quite impressive off. Not only that, after getting a brutal beating, more often than not, your career along with your chin go south. I don't think is beneficial for williams in any way. if he is indeed having weight problems then move to 154 not 160. Gaining muscle to move up two divisions to then move down if that is such the case is a stupid move...

100% entirely!
It's a stupid fucking fight, Margarito had Williams hurt in there fight and that was a close fight. Williams is going to get knocked the fuck out at Middle weight... Dumbest fight in boxing is this one.
How is it a dumb fight when people expect Williams to get Knocked out? Pavlik is taking all the risk in this fight because he isnt suppose to lose, If williams loses then it was suppose to happen.
I see a brutal beating for Paul here. When he fought a good pressure fighter with power in Margarito he was able to use his size and reach advantage and holding when Margarito got inside to avoid punishment. With Pavlik he's fighting a guy with much more power that doesn't need to get inside because there the same size.
Williams could unify WW titles against he Cotto vs Marg winner, going after Pavlik is just plain stupid IMO.
he won't get the winner from cotto-marg, plain and simple

I don't see what the big deal is. Why does it make Pavlik look bad when Williams is the one calling for the fight? It's not as if Pavlik won't fight any top Middleweights after this fight let alone alone he had a proposed fight with Calzaghe that went down the toilet (mainly because of Calzaghe's pops).
Williams is trying to go for the gusto and fight a guy considered one of the most dangerous punchers in the game, so kudos to him for having the balls to fight Pav.
IMO though I think Williams won't be able to handle Pavlik's power even if Paully has his guard up.
But this will do no harm to Pavlik's career. That's a bit of a stretch to say the least.
Yeah Pavliks gotta hope for another impressive win to get credit in this fight.
But on Williams part this was a great deal, he gets to make his first appearance as a middleweight against the champ. If he wins he is champ and if he loses its no worries cause he jumped up 13 pounds and he can either drop back to WW or the weak JMW and dominate. And even if he loses but impresses people he can probably get a rematch against pavlik.
But i dont see williams getting it done. I feel like the extra weight will hurt him and he wont be able to dish out as many punches a round as he is famous for.
