If Miguel Cotto beats Antonio Margarito there is a good chance he will fight "the punisher" Paul Williams in a unification fight. Williams seems to be the one champion the other belt holders don't want to talk about in spite of his win over Margarito. They can't use the "boring" excuse because Williams throws record breaking number of punches and is always aggressive. A match up with Cotto would be big and exciting because of Cotto's style, power, status, and skill. Also, if Cotto wins the next fight he will be number 1 at welterweight while Mayweather is retired. So who wins this fight and what kind of fight would it be?
Paul Willimas will give tons of problems to Cotto and even PBF due to size, reach and work advantage. Then again, Quintana showed us a blueprint on how to fight and frustrate PW in their first fight. You got to be smart and constantly move. And everytime you get the chance, use your right cause PW loves to eat those. Cotto and PBF could win, but it is not an obviously awarded win.
Very easy, I dont think so - Quintana gave him trouble the first fight. Imagine what a Cotto would do
Chop Chop Corley almost knocked Cotto out. Judah punched holes in Cotto's face. 36 year oldShane Mosley had Cotto backing up and holding in the later rounds Imagine what 6-2 Paul Williams would do. My point is that I never understand the logic of picking out one fighters worst moments against another fighters best. If I'm not mistaken, a better prepared Williams destroyed Quintana in a rematch which makes me wonder why the first fight is brought up more than the second.
Not even that.
Is Paul good ? yeah I agree 100%.
But If you put him in there with Cotto, where Cotto has a great body shot againest a guy who starves to make 147 and looking really skinny not having much fat or muscle on the ribs will get killed, but im not saying it wont be a competitve fight, I feel Williams jab and height will come into it, but Cottos bodyshot will win.
fair enough. its all speculation until they lace em up and fight eachother. we'll know a lil bit more after the 26th when we can compare the cotto and williams' performance against a common foe. I know we all dont like triangle theories. I am just saying it will shed a lil bit more light.
BTW I got this sneaky feeling the Ricans dont like to give Paul credit.

"
Inside fighting decent - Body puncher not so much
see I would have given your argument more weight if you would have given paul props for his inside fighting. I know you said decent which isnt bad, but it made it seem like you feel he is an average inside fighter but good for his height.
I'll play devil's advocate here, I got the Punisher winning a very easy UD or a mid to late KO

ask margharito if williams is a good body puncher or not? for his height and length williams is a very good inside fighter and a good body puncher."

Williams isn't even recognized for his body shots and a fighter that tall trying to throw body shots to a guy Cotto's size leaves his head wide open for counter punches all day.
As far as Shane goes, Cotto was back peddling and countering Shane with Shane giving him the "Ok you got me" nod. This excuse is getting as old as the chin talk.

Paul williams is a tree, an inmsanly tal fighter, but its comman knowlage that body punching is effecive against tall fighters...Who is the best body puncher in the sport? Miguel cotto/
Lampley has been known to exaggerate just a lil........
Yes Lampley is a giant ass kisser, I almost yacked listening to him talk about Pacquiao the other day but never the less I can see williams giving problems to Cotto but it will gradually start to change once Cotto starts tearin up to ribs.
Williams will get hurt with a Cotto. Williams is a pretty tough fighter during the first 4-5 but soon as he starts to gas he becomes vulnerable big time.
That might be true, but Margarito wasn't able to put him away. He wasn't even able to win the fight.

Cotto pretty much aggressed the whole fight the exceptions for a couple rounds when he hurt his hands. Even Lampley quoted Cotto that fight as being a force of nature.

What about Cotto's body?
Check the way he keeps his elbows too far from his body.
It's a fundemental flaw in his style..that's why he had to RUN from Shane..he couldn't get it done on the inside.
Williams will be on those ribs like KC MASTERPIECE.
