The year woulda been 2000, the 27 year old PR icon Felix "Tito" Trinidad had just come off a controversial MD victory in 1999 over undefeated Oscar De La Hoya. In doing so he was able to push the pace of the action late sweeping the championship rounds as DLH would get in his feet and move around the ring avoiding Trinidad at all cost. And yes it was Def. controversial as most observers had Oscar winning 5 outta the 1st 6 rounds. Even still it was at that point and probably the most defining moment of the young Puerto Rican fighter's career. It cemented his status as ATG, and cemented his status as one of the P4P best fighters in the world at that given time.
Now.....Shane Mosley who would move up to Welterweight 1 year earlier in 1999 and knockout journeymen Wilfredo Rivera, who had fought Pernell Whitaker to a very close SD loss, and had come up short in every World Title atempt. Would then go onto fight Willy Wise and KO him as well. Mosley perhaps one of the most celebrated Lightweight champions of all-time and expecially in our era, had won all 34 of his Lightweight fights and 32 of those were KO's. He was moving up for one reason and that was big fights. With the Welterweight division filled with future HOF's and ATG's in Trinidad and DLH, Great champions in Vernon Forrest and Ike Quartey.
Shane would go on to defeat Oscar in a ATG clash in August of 2000, ( I remember watching this fight and standing up for the entire second half of it like i was watching it ringside). Mosley would go onto win a SD, and now had his biggest win of his entire career stapled to his resume.
Both men had fought the very best at this given time in history, even with the dispute over the Trinidad victory, and both men were well on there way to HOF career's.
One problem though...........Neither fighter ever would meet inside of the squared circle. And if there was ever a matchup that would be able to pit 2 highly reagarded P4P World Champions, both of which were undefeated at there respective times.
Trinidad would move up to the Super Welterweight division and in doing so, dominated US Gold medalist David Reid, and would then fight a young trash talking Fernando Vargas, knocking him down 5 times in the process and winning via 12th round TKO.
Shane would go onto defend his newly crowned WBC title 3 times before being dominated by a lanky hard hitting fighter named Vernon Forrest, and again come back his very next fight to fight the same man....(Mosley has also done this twice, also against Winky Wright, which is a testament to who he is as a fighter).
We will always have that question mark around this discussion..
WHAT IF.......
Trinidad had waited one year too move up to 154 and fight the winner of DLH and Mosley, in which he would have fought Mosley.
WHO WOULD......
Have had the advantage fighting at such an attractive weight at the time, both men in there primes.
AND COULD.....
Trinidad's ungodly power have caught up to Shane's unmatched hand speed at this time in the Welterweight division....Questions we won't be able to answer and we will never know......
But fuck wouldn't it have been something out of a story tale if they had met up and would we not be talkin about this matchup for years too come.......
Hope you enjoyed......
List some other fights that you guys wish would have gone down but never did....And also lemme know what you guys think and who would have won between my Superclash....
Personally i think that Trinidad was a fuckin monster at 147 and Mosleyshowed just how good he was against DLH as many had him winning that fight by a couple of rounds...It def. would have been an ATG battle though.......
winky-mayweather
Agreeed.....What a defensive and technical battle this woulda been......
And by the way...JCVD is by far the best dancer i have ever seen.....
Thats the best dance move i've seen since Cotto was hoppin around the ring and doin his jig!!!
Outstanding post, man! That would have been a great match indeed!
Other ones that got away.....
Felix Trinidad -vs- Terry Norris
Trinidad -vs- Ike Quartey
and of course....Trinidad vs De La Hoya II (greedy Oscar wanted 70/30 split)
Thank you dutch....I'm glad some ppl have enjoyed it....

Morales. Better overall boxer with the ability to slug it out due to his chin. Chico seemed to rarely use his height to his advantage. Kind of like the Kwame Brown of boxing. Super tall but the mindset of a midget. Kwame instead of going for dunks, tries layups, Diego instead of fighting from the outside utilizing his reach, tried to be JCC.
However, it could just as easily go the other way. Another one of those what ifs.
green k for you for picking erik!
you'll have to wait for when my comp let's me though! ha ha ha
forget timing.
prime for prime who do you got?
corrales can bang at 130 but his chin wasn't the greatest.
morales doesn't have great power at 130 but his chin is granite.
foty anyone?

I know the timing is off in regards to weight, but Morales-Corrales would have been classic!

i think the time you are wishing this matchup took place would have being career defining fights for the pair of them. one would go on to greatness. the other on a downword spiral if this happened.
It woulda been a hell of a night and your damn right that the winner would go onto greatness and be considered an ATG no matter what happened from that point on.....
Perhaps not super, but how about...
Mugabi-era Hagler vs Barkley-era Benn
McClellan vs Toney at 168.
McClellan vs Roy at 168
Gatti vs Chico at 130,135
Lennox vs Bowe
Duran vs Mosely at 135
Jirov-era Toney vs Haye at cruiser
Meldrick Taylor (pre-Chavez fight) vs Floyd at 140
Larry Holmes vs Bowe
