The greatest fighters who came out of the United States
The greatest fighter who came out of Puerto Rico, Mexico.
Who gets the edge as of overall greatness and in give me some names of the greatest fighters to come out of all 3 countries!!
First off....For obvious reasons....Sugar Ray Robinson.....How about the best defensive fighter of all time....a fucking wizard in the ring Willie Pep?!?
JCC, Felix Trinidad, Wilfredo Benitez, Hector Camacho, Campas...ETC. ETC.
Gimme some more great ppl
the united states has had the better fighters overall because they've produced many more champions.
as far as puerto rico is concerned, they are by far the best boxing country per capita.
mexico has produced more champions than puerto rico but for such a tiny country, and the quality of boxers they have produced, nobody comes close to puerto rico.
overall top countries
1. usa
2. mexico
3. uk
4. puerto rico
most champions produced
1. usa
2. mexico
3. puerto rico
best per capita
1. puerto rico
2. usa
3. mexico
Great post and insight MexicoManda......Love it dutchie!
Mayweather at 135 destroys any of them.
Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Pernell Whitaker, Roy Jones.... Much better fighters on the All Time list...
How bout the man i nyour sig....20 straight title defenses??
Just another ATG figher.....
Don't get me wrong i think you can make an arguement for both, and when u star to place great fighters in matchups, i have a stong feeling that your gonna see the US dominate a lot of these match ups...
A Point of interest....who in god's green earth do you guys put in the ring against Wille Pep from either PR or Mexico.....Cuz i sure as shit have no idea!!
without ANY bias, i'd say puerto rico / mexico.
:boxing:
barrera
ortiz
sanchez
dejesus
morales
i'd say in the knuckling up department, the 2 nations batter the US.

I agree...i think that Mccallum had too many intangibles and even early in his career @ 154, which he's more knownfor his greatness after his run @ 154, he was able to show a lot of ppl during this stint that he had the makeup to be an ATG.....Mccallum would have been a little too much for Norris i think @ 154...And i also agree with Taylor's moving up and Norris being too much for him, but Taylor was still considered a great fighter and i dont think too many ppl really thought he was going to get blown out the way he did tho....
There was actually some worry about the Norris-Taylor fight being one sided because of the size difference.
I agree with the rest, McCallum really showed what he was made of against Curry.
Taylor was way out of his weight class though and wasn't the same fighter that he was pre-JCC but I'm not saying he was shot, the size difference between them was huge, reminded me a bit of when Donald Curry went up to challenge Nunn. Stupid move from Taylor's management to move him up to fight Norris.
Norris' work ethic was definitely great but sometimes he took it too far and overtrained.
And I think McCallum would have knocked Norris out at 154.

Man if they woulda fought in there primes....fuckin fireworks....And also dont forget what Terrible did to Meldrick Taylor in 92. He beat the donkey outta him on his way toa 4th round KO. Also remeber that Meldrick was a prime threat and a great fighter at the time with his only loss the controversial JCC fight. Terry waas a beast in the early to mid 90'2 at 154. And also remember unlike fighter nowadays who seemingly continue to move up in weight Terry was able to stay @ 154 his entire career, and attribute to the kinda shape this guy came in and the way the man trained!

We'll agree to disagree on this. I rank McCallum higher than him at 154, he didn't have as long a reign or won the title as many times but IMO beat the better opposition, he was also ranked pound for pound top 10 when he was in his prime.
Ironically, both Norris and McCallum never got that big fight they always wanted.

Norris was as well, on top of him winning the title multiple times and fighting in that kind of era. I rank McCallum as the greater fighter overall becuase he moves up in weight and took on big names such as Jones, Toney ect, but not at junior middleweight. You have a good point though but this is IMO.
As I said, we'll agree to disagree. :boxing:

Great fighters are inducted into the hall of fame and beat some very good fighters and earned his spot. Just look at how many times he won the junior middleweight title :), he was also pound for pound one of the best fighters of the 90's as he was top 10 on the list. I'd condiser him great.

terry norris was ill and every fight he had was a fucking tough one. he fought everybody, all the real killers of his time. imagine the 154lb division now if terrible terry were in it
Yes.....cuz he would run through everyone there is....including Wink and Forrest @ there respected times....Easily!!
I know he was a very good fighter worthy of the HOF but great? I don't think so.
Great fighters are inducted into the hall of fame and he beat some very good fighters of his time and earned his spot. He also fought in one of the most tilest filled era's with loads of talent. Julian Jackson was there, John Mugabi, Simon Brown ect.
