Setanta's boxing pundit Steve Bunce believes that Amir Khan may be in line to fight for the vacant IBF lightweight title, if the governing body chooses to strip current champion Nate Campbell.
Campbell is defending against former WBO super featherweight champion Joan Guzman on September 13, but only the WBA and WBO are on the line, suggesting that the IBF may be set to relieve him of his championship.
As Bunce explained on his Boxing Hour on Setanta Sports News: "There's a chance, the IBF title could fall vacant. The IBF have the number one and two contender as 'situation vacant'.
"He's quite a lethal opponent as he's the one every single fighter is trying to get his fighter in with.
"Amir Khan is ranked ten by the IBF but some of the fighters have between three and nine have fights coming up so, in theory, there could be a title fight out there for him.
"Six of the top lightweights are fighting each other within a few days of each other.
"Juan Diaz is fighting Michael Katsidis, the battler from Australia. Joel Casamayor is fighting Juan Manuel Marquez, who is following Pac Man up to the lightweight division, and of course, Campbell and Guzman.
"So it could happen."
This story is complete bullshit. The IBF Title will indeed be on the line in the Guzman fight. Nate does not have a mandatory due with the IBF until after December. Also Raheem and Funeka are already fighting for the IBF mandatory #1 spot, and the winner will have first crack at Nate. So Khan would have to get in line.....
well presumably he'll have to fight someone of vaguely world class, even if not the best, theres not a fighter in the top ten that wouldnt snap him in half
Wow...another Warren fighter winning a paper title. :lol1:
Alex Arthur got his title by boring Guzman into giving it up and Khan might get one cause Campbell may drop it...
