What would you do if, in his last fight, De La Hoya won?
Cotto would have depensed of; Margarito, Judah, Mosley, Malignaggi, Torres and Gomez and he gets beat by Oscar.
(I mention Gomez, Torres and Malignaggi, because Gomez did some decent things before the fight, and Torres and Malignaggi have donie some decent things after fighting Cotto, so they are/were clearly formidable opponents.)
Now, this would mean that De La Hoya in the twilight of his career beat a prime fighter with a very solid record. It would PROBABLY be a good fight, considering Cotto and De La Hoya do usually come to fight. He'd have gone out with a bang and would finally have the BIG win, to go along with an already incredible career.
What would change with Cotto losing to an ATLEAST slightly faded once-great? Would you look at him differently? Would that TRULY diminish his standing.
To nip the questions in the budd, it's a close but clear decision for De La Hoya.
Vote. Discuss.
I honestly think that De La Hoya has much more of a chance than people are giving him credit for. I hope this fight happens and I can get some good odds on this one.
I dont see Oscar getting stopped by a WW. Oscar has good defense and chin, and was only stopped against an ATG MW.
As for DLH Cotto I think Oscar has a better chance than most are giving him. Sure, Cotto is the favorite, but Oscar still has a lot of gas in the tank, and while hes not exactly what he used to be hes not shot either.
Good fight, Ill take Cotto in a relatively close decision.
I read an interview with Oscar in which he said that his last fight will be at 154. No 150 catchweight. At 147 Cotto can KO Oscar if he gets past Tony. At 154 with 10 ounce gloves is better for Oscar although at his age he still loses but by decision and not by KO.
i have a feeling dlh is not going to fight cotto he is gonna fight trinidad instead
Trinidad can't even make 160. De La Hoya won't go above 154.
How's that going to work ?
Come on; Steve Forbes didn't get knocked down or close to it and looked decent (not saying good or great) againest De La Hoya. If Forbes stood 12 rounds, and we can all agree Cotto is a way other level than Forbes than I say Cotto either a UD or a TKO.
Cotto is also a naturally big weighted guy; reason why he couldnt make 140 because he usually sits over 154 after fights. If its catchweight of 150; wouldn't do much harm to Cotto's performance. Cotto takes this fight.
If DLH manages to pull out a victory, a lot of Mayweather fans are going to bash Cotto into the ground.
For DLH though, it would be a huge victory over the number 1 welterweight and an entrant in the top 10 pound for pound rankings, no one can say he loses in his biggest fights.
Anyways, I think at 147, Cotto wins, at 154, DLH could pull it off.
