I know this has been probably posted to death. But its so disturbing. there was 4 seconds left when steele began to wave his hands to end the fight. The bell would of sounded before they could even start to fight again. What a truly disgusting stoppage that destroyed a great fighter.

It would have looked better for Taylor if he would've let go of the ropes during the count...in any event, he could've kept his distance better knowing he was ahead, with both eyes swollen like that it was only a matter of time before he got hit by something he couldn't see coming. Watch Chavez carefully, he was taking his time in the 12th, didn't rush, and knew how to knock him down.
I genuinely dont think he made a mistake, Chavez was a big name and steele was a don king ref. If Taylor was KD twice already then was walking all over the ring like he was drunk then yeah.
But in the 12th round when you have heard the 10seconds bell..YOU STOP A WORLD CLASS fight like that??? that to me was fishy, If that was chavez the ref would never have stopped that fight.
Thats exactly right. Steele also knew that Taylor was ahead in the fight. I would have perfectly understood if someone told me that the stoppage wasn't quick becuase Steele was normally known for being a good referree, but he has been known for working for Don King in the past and shortly before the fight, they were found speaking privately. King Paid him off and Steele found the perfect opportunity to stop the fight and he did. If Chavez was in that much trouble, like you said it would have took him own cornerman to stop the fight.
I dont know what to tihnk. steele doesnt come across as someone who would do that. I think he made a horrible mistake and he realized it. But had to back it up after he already did it. it was very foolish though.

It seems to me that The ref was looking for the opportunity to stop the fight and he got one.

Am from england and have NO biase toward any of the 2 fighters, Am calling it like i see it..That was a ROBBERY, Even if the time left was 1 minute taylor got up and was acting normal like most fighter that has been knocked down would act after getting up.
I cannot imagine if it was the other way round...Would steele have stopped the fight if chavez was in the same situation? NO F**KING WAY.....That was a disgrace to boxing.
If thats you in your avatar then you have biased views because you are hispanic..lol Cleary you are pro Chavez. I don't understand why you guys are complaining, Julio won the fight. Not impressive by any means and it remains one of the most contrversial decisions in recent memory, but he got the win.
I must also bring up the fact that Don King and Chavez has a history of fishy judging as well. The questionable decision in the Whitaker fight, the questionable win over Franky Randall, the questionable decison for Steele to stop the Taylor fight ect. King was just a crooked guy and has a history of it.
This favoritism due to race bull shit is getting old find a better argument.

Although I agree that King is a Douche bag, and Chavez had some questionable decisions, but Taylor couldn't even stand with out the ropes, he couldn't/didn't say he can continue. Gatti is a different fighter then Taylor, Gatti is face first fighter, comparing them is ridiculous. Gatti has always responded, walked forward, etc. Taylor needed the ropes to stand, that is not standing up. By your words my 12 month old god son, could stand, but he couldn't take steps. Hell he can't respond either maybe we should throw him in the ring.
You need to realize how vulnerable Taylor was in order to understand the stoppage, Steele is looking at the safety of a fighter, a fighter that was never the same following that fight. You are look at a win loss situation. You need to take into consideration the long term damage that had happened. Gabriel Ruelas killed a guy, dude died 3 weeks(?) after the fight. Ruelas never fought the same, you could tell he was scared he would do it again. The G-man McCelland is blind, 80% deaf, and suffered severe memory loss.
Steele's job is not to watch the clock, it is to watch the fighter, the fighter was not able to continue, showed no encouragement to fight on(no response), end of contest.
My bad not philly but Pennsylvania......and it's BIASED, not based, you see I can admit when I'm WRONG

have you seen the fight? There is no way you can be biased for Taylor on this. The man got screwed
I have the fight and have seen it hundreds of times and Taylor lost every time I watched it.
I live in pittsburgh and have never been in Philly in my entire life. I was born in Birmingham Ali, where am i based for Taylor? I am one of the most reasonable posters on this board and I'm not the only one that feel this way about this.

Of course the fight should go on. Steele knew the amount of time left( 2 damn seconds) and still stopped the fight. I have seen fighters in positions where they were in worse shape than Taylor was and not respond at all and the referr let the fight continue, plus they still managed to win the fight. What Steele should have don is looked at what Taylor was looking at and uderstood his sorounding. Like i have said, he got what he wanted. He found the perfect reason to stop the fight and he did it. The only thing that people are saying defending Taylor is the fact he needed to respond and repeating themsemelves. Fact is that Taylor got up in within 10 seconds and was ready to continue. Look at Gatti/Ward I, there were times that Gatti didn't respond and the referee continued the fight. Taylor was winning the fight anyway.
lol, why do i even bother? If you really think that Chavez would have even been witnin 5 feet of Taylor by the time that Steele would have gave them the go ahead, then you are cleary biased and unreasonable. You can make a poll asking people if Chavez would even hit Taylor if they fight continued and see the type of responses you will get.

Ok I am going to say it to you like this, if you were fighting and you couldn't say I am ok or yes, should you fight on? Ok how bout I beat the hell out of you for 35:58 and you can't even say I am ok or yes, should you want to fight?
This is like speaking to a retard, fact is as a fighter if you wants the fight to continue you need to respond. And again if Duva was on the apron it is a DQ either way.

The fight was really stopped with 5 seconds left although the official stoppage was 2 seconds left. There was 8 seconds when he asked if he was ok. If there was 5 seconds left I could land 10 punches in that amount of time(that is assuming I miss 5 times). I guarantee that Chavez could have dropped him in that amount of time. Again the red light represents there are 10 seconds not 2, or 5 or 1, it represents 10 and I guarantee Chavez could have had his way in that amount of time.

I didn't say that Steele should have stalled, you are twisting my words. I said that by the time that Steele would have sent Taylor back out and finished talking to him, the bell would have rang to end the final round becuase Chavez was too far across the ring. Why do you think that so many people are mad at Steele? Steele the amount of time left and found the perfect moment and reason to stop the fight. He knew what he was doing. I can go through numerous things that Steele was accused of doing. He was paid off by Don King.

Taylor deserved the W but couldn't take it, therefore he lost just accept it. Taylor had a fractured face and was pissing blood, dude got his ass kicked.
So according to you Taylor would have been payed off too.....since he went down and gave Steele a chance to end it by not answering his questions?
HUH? :ugh:
