prime kostya kills hatton.
kostya was 35 when they fought ffs, and plus the ref let hatton turn it into a freakin clinch fest, wrestling and lying all over tszyu, hitting him low several times, elbows forearms etc......it was completely stupid refereeing.
What you call stupid refereeing Hatton and his legion of biased fanatics call it "Hatton refereeing".
I say Hatton beats tsyzu anytime prime or NO prime, Hatton had the perfect style/referee to beat Tsyzu, He smother/wrestle Tsyzu at every opportunity which makes it difficult for Tsyzu to get any leverage on his big right handed punch.
If they fought in a different country with a different referee then maybe the result would be different.
It seemed to me that Tszyu always had problems with fighters that took his shots and was there for the entire fight out lasting him. Both losses came in the hands of fighters that did this. Those tough fighters that like Vince Phillips and Ricky Hatton would always cause Tszyu problems IMO. Becuase of that, i would have to say Hatton by close decision over a prime Tszyu. Thats just the wrong style. Tszyu looked his best from a distance against fighters that tried to out box him. Also, he wasn't that far from his prime. He was still top 5 pound for pound and had only loss to Vince Phillips many years earlier.
Prime Tszyu(99-00) stops Hatton in about 7-8 rounds no doubt.
Hell, the 35 year old Tszyu would have beaten Hatton had he not been innactive in the prior years, and had the hometown ref not allowed Hatton to CHEAT his way to victory.
come on rod.. i have no doubt you're aware of the circumstances surrounding the loss to cool vince...
at the end of the day hatton is a bad match up for tszyu.. the swarming pressure style negates alot of his timing and accuracy.. in his prime though.. i like to think that tszyu would have had the smarts to tinker with his game plan.. show the boxing skills alot of people dont think he had.. and forge out an ugly but unanimous decision.
taking nothing away from ricky though who beat him on the night.
um well, you kind of forgot about Cervantes.
I thought Tsyzu hit his prime after the Phillips fight. kind of woke him up and made him start boxing instead of going for the kill. he still was really bad against pressure fighters. which is the reason I think JCC would have had his way with him, actually. Tsyzu would have given boxer-type fighters a ton of trouble.
well , thanks for trying to kill my point.
geez......
tua , tszyu , trinidad , roy......
there was a time when my boys where at the top of the world...... :-(
great and all time great is not the same thing.
one can be great but still not be an all time great.
he had a lot of solid wins. name a superfight aaron pryor had aside from arguello? if the pryor-arguello fights never happened wouldn't he still be a great fighter?
he dominated his era. that is enough to be great for me. not all time great but still a great fighter.
how many times have good fighters lost to shot fighters? more than a few times. name a champion that doesn't have some old guys on their resume to make their name?um well, you kind of forgot about Cervantes.

Those are nice however this is my favourite Tszyu clip...
And for the record prime Tszyu knocks Hatton the fuck out.
So many Mayweather dickriders changed their opinion on this fight after Floyd's comments on the referee. He only made the comments because he was scared that a referee was going to allow Hatton to rough him up. Its sad such a pea-brain was allowed to denigrate such a great fight and victory for the Hitman
Hatton won the fight and he won it fairly. I am a Kostya fan but there is not denying that Ricky was the better fighter on that given night.
The question is not whether the victory was fair or how much is the victory worth etc. it is about how the two fighters would fare against each other in their primes.

Hatton wins by decision. Tszyu was a great fighter who would always have problems with Ricky's style of in-fighting. Tszyu always had the one punch power in his right to end the fight at anytime if he timed Hatton right coming in. If they fought 10 times prime for prime Hatton wins 6 of 10.
