He says one thing here and does the complete opposite, i.e Kelly Pavlik and Roy Jones.
It's amusing how you bitch and moan about how terrible Taylor is, and how Pavlik is overrated based solely on the Taylor win...
But wait, who has your man AA beat? Oh, that's right! Miranda, who is also on Pav's resume! How about Elvin Ayala, who lost TWICE to Contender bum David Banks? Or Howard Eastman, who lost to William Joppy? How about his next fight, against mandatory Raul Marquez... who Jermain Taylor KO'd FOUR YEARS AGO.
AA is a decent fighter, but has not been tested at near the level Pavlik has. Pavlik doesn't NEED to call him out; he's holding the better hand right now. AA will come to him.
When Pavlik makes more than one title defense against weak opposition then maybe you can justify swinging on his nuts.

the dude is stock on AA man, there is no hope. BUT I do believe PAV will face AA and then EVERYONE will say AA was a joke and was over rated and PAV should have fought someone better and so on and so on.... or they will just say he should have fought Sloppy Joe.... but I think he will fight AA and lil joey. Give it time... the money will shine and bring all.... BUT hey don't get me wrong I like PAV and I think he has a lot more to show us.. to me he is just starting to show his real talent and is NOTHING great yet. He has many tests before he is anything more than a guy that has a punch with a solid chin. I don't hype the fighter, I just want to see him fight..
Cal will be in the H.O.F zipperhead, and you make sure PAv doesn't leave 160 without fighting Abraham. It's bad enough I had to suffer through watching JT fight without any inside game, and have to her that beating JT was a great win. I want to see if PAv is the goods, because if he gets hurt by AA, his ass is grass degenerate. Go out and get a girl panzy, and put some boxers on. Underoos are out of style punkchump.

Pavlik was a second option and leverage to make Jones take the fight. Since a fight with Roy is worth 2-3 times what a fight with Kelly would make, it's an easy choice for JC.
He's had ONE fucking fight away from SMW and he planned ONE more fucking fight before he calls it a day. It's a bit late in the day to start citing weight issues as a reason for this fight not to take place. I'm sure Calzaghe could hit 168 one more time, or like I said, a catchweight.
Have you watched the video? It is JOE who brings up Kelly, and now suddenly he doesn't want any part of it. The point is that a suitable compromise could be reached seeing as Joe envisioned the fight too. It's not a case of Pavlik chasing someone who never wanted to ever do with him. Joe was looking into it too. I'm sure Joe could fight at, say, 170.
I'm sorry but if you think weight is the only, or main, reason isn't taking place, then you're clueless.
Joe's going for the easy fight and the easy money.
If we're so utterly stupid thinking this fight could take place despite the weight difference, then what the fuck is Joe Calzaghe, seeing as it is HE who is discussing an contemplating the fight?
And it's not from years ago, it's a video from before his last fight.
Open your fucking eyes. Joe HIMSELF brings up Pavlik. Wasn't weight an issue then?
Fuck sake.
I've already explained my take on the situation. Negotiations hit a stumbling block. You can take the hysterical route and say he is ducking him or you can try the objective approach and realise that various factors have got us to the stage we are at.
I'm not going to waste any more time debating this issue because you have your view and I have mine and neither of us are going to revise our opinion so on that note...goodnight!

Thank you. It needed to be said, and you beat me to it.
When have you heard Pavlik personally say he really wants that fight with any meaning? .
Does it really matter???? Didn't Calzaghe persue a fight with Jermain Taylor coming to america. Was Taylor any more vocal then Pavlik??? I don't think so.
Bottom line is....whether Arum is saying it or Pavlik himself, Kelly would take this fight at 168 or 175. If Arum wants it, Kelly wants it. It's all on Joe Calzaghe and he made the choice to go after the presumingly easier fight thinking ROy is way past it.
Thing is, I think Pavlik is stylistically an easier fight and he would get more credit from the fans for beating him then RJJ - who I think even today is a tougher fight. I have RJJ beating the homosexual puncher by Unaminous decisiion.
I wasn't questioning Calzaghe's weight problems, I was saying it isn't a issue for the fight being made since Pavlik is willing to move up to 175 and fight for the Ring light-heavy championship.
I don't think Pavlik would make a "I only will fight him at 168" stipulation. He wants the fight period.
When have you heard Pavlik personally say he really wants that fight with any meaning? Sorry few and far between. It was all Arum, whom was after the money. Pavlik was just going along with it.
There's a press conference where Arum was talking about progress with the Calzaghe ppl on a fight this year. Pavlik responded like he just didn't know about it at all, just said, sweet.

Why hasn't he come out and said it then? Reading between the lines, negotiations have hit stumbling blocks at key points so Calzaghe has taken another fight where the terms suit him. It is every fighter's perogative to do so and to call it ducking is poor form.
Obviously it is a problem. Calzaghe's weight has been an issue for months. If Pavlik was that desperate for the fight he should be the one to raise the issue.

Calzaghe majorly struggled making SMW weight. I've read him describing in detail how he eats virtually nothing for days leading upto the fight, has severe hunger pains, has to run in cling film, and just feels ill. When he makes weigh he feels like thats half the battle done.
I think since being at LHW he's gradually realised he can't do SMW weight anymore, it's just caning his body. Pavlik says he'll do anything at times, yet he doesn't really seem to have much input as to his career, Arum steers him. Could say brave, but could also, stupid. I mean he's just beaten a bum, and is now facing someone 2 divisions lower.
I don't think going up in to divisions himself to meet Joe would be wise even if he would do it, that's 15 lb's in a small amount of time. I mean Williams walk around weight is high for his division, that's not the case so much of Pavlik I don't think so not so easy. In that sense I'm glad he's sticking to MW, he doesn't need to be fucking about with his weight too much.
Please. He's had ONE fight at Light Heavy. In fact, didn't he weigh 172/173 for the Hopkins weigh-in?
He fought at the weight for years, I'm sure he could do it again. Although I'm sure a catchweight could be found.
Please nothing. It has been well documented here in the UK that Calzaghe has been uncofortable making weight for some time. If Pavlik and co. were being so accomodating they would have made public their willingness to fight at light-heavy.
I'm sure Pavlik would be willing to move up to 175.
Lets not act like that's the problem. If it is, let Joe bring it up in the media so Kelly Pavlik can respond with a "I don't have a problem fighting Joe at 176".

I'm getting sick of repeating myself but it seems that I have no choice until this sinks in. Calzaghe cannot fight below light heavyweight which is 175, Kelly Pavlik has not fought above 166 which is a little below super middleweight, where are they supposed to fight?
