Don't hold me to this, but I heard from a friend who knows Joe's sister that Warren was trying to rip him off.
Apparently, Warren wanted Joe to sign a new multi fight deal, and was withholding money from the Hopkins fight until he did so.
This would have meant that Warren could have taken legal action should Joe have retired after Jones, so Joe decided that enough was enough, and left.
Don't quote me on this though, like I said, it's all hearsay.
he'll get more money now that he doesn't have a promoter to pay. Other than that no point.
True that i suppose. Well, either way i guess it's not a huge loss. He doesn't need someone to get him his last fight, he already knows what he's doing.
It's not dis respectful man, pull the other one. This is a business like any other, it's competitve and people are getting dropped, new ppl brought on board, contracts not renewed all the time.
Warren had negotiated with Bob Arum a fight with Pavlik to the point both promoters openly said after working together on it, it could be worked out and done, if Joe wants it. Well Joe always said he was 2nd preference so no shock there either.
What you want ppl to just renew contracts knowing it's not the best for them and what they want to achieve over all, just to appear slightly more loyal or respectful. That's not how it works and everyone knows it. Warrens done far worse in his career and possibly even expected it. He's had 12 years of steady income from Joe, and Joe's only just respectfully calling it a day with him, big deal.
This is very disrespectful of Calzaghe to leave Warren after all these years and all that Warren has done for him. This is typical of a limey welshman to show no loyalty towards someone who made them because he is an overprotected euro bum lol.
He's always said he'd go into management/promotion after he retires - what better way than to kickstart your own company than by promoting your own superfight?
i think calzaghe thinking of owning his own promotions company and maybe even promoting his own fights.
in fact thinking about it he has macca, gavin rees and bradley pryce who could sign up for him as well. so maybe he'll promote a few fights for others and then finally promote his own last fight.

He's trying to make the most money possible out of his last fight, he won't have to pay Warren anything and gets to keep more money for himself. Apart from that, it won't affect him too much at this stage of his career.
