Not only is he a great person outside of boxing, PAVLIK has knocked out and/or beat every boxer he was put up against including the top ranked boxers in his division! He demands to fight the best (With calling out Calzag, etc...) and will back down from no one! Pavlik has the highest KO percentage of any Undefeated Middleweight Champion in history. Unlike other MW champs, he hasn't fought overseas with a padded record/fighting chumps, he came from the bottom up with no type of hype behind him and fought the best that was out there!
He fights to finish and goes out every fight to put on a show- he doesnt run around the ring like some other p4p fighters* while facing non-top fighters- or hand picking his opponent (mayweather)- His management picks his fights, Pavlik just does his job and fights!
You could say what you want about his fight with lockett, but it was his mandatory and he made easy work of him! He is the current MW Champ, universally recognized as the MAN @ MW and one of the best in boxing!
I criticise him a lot, but I don't hate him. I just don't think he's as good as he's made out to be. In a way I hope I am wrong and he goes on to be a real great because with his style we will always see exciting fights.
I have to point out though, as always, that just because a fighter is from overseas and fights overseas it doesn't make his record padded, it just means he probably fought a different set of challengers than would his American counterpart.
i was talking about Abraham, hes clearly had a handful of handpicked opponents-
He's a pretty generic fighter. He doesn't have any unique attributes, he just possess a solid, basic style with great power. This causes him to lack magnetism to many.
I agree, good thread.
Perhaps some people hate him because he's white - racism goes in both directions.
Who would have thought Tunney would be playing the race card.....
