how good can Alex Povetkin be ? i love watching his style of fighting busy and aggresive ,shame he aint got much of a dig and he is a bit on the small side compared to some of the big HW out there
maybe he should get himself down the weights room and add some muscle to pile on some extra pounds im sure Tyson and Holyfield used a lot of weights to bulk up
if Povetkin was as big as Wlad we would have an entertaning HW Champ
I don't know what you guys see in Povetkin. Yes, he he has a high workrate. However, he came in fat in his last 4 fights. He really has to lose some fat and gain some muscle. His power is average at best. His handspeed looked bad compared to Byrd and Chambers. His defense was poor in his last fights, Byrd and Chambers landed every time they threw a punch. If Povetkin doesn't work on his lateral movement, footwork, defense, and conditioning, he will lose to Wlad and will never get back on top.
As it is now, I think Haye would KO him within 6, Ibragimov and Chagaev would win a very wide UD, and Valuev would wipe his ass with what's left of Povetkin.
I like his high work-rate, which is something you don’t see that often in the Heavyweight division. Also he hasn’t had many fights but frankly even looking at his limited resume I have seen boxers get title shots with much less credentials. He seems to be a little loose on defense (although to be fair Chambers is a pretty accurate puncher, but then again so is Wlad and he has a lot more power than Chambers does).
Can he beat Wlad? I guess you can never say never but frankly I can’t see anyone beating Wlad right now.
Did you see how many shots he took from chambers? Povetkins face was fucking bright pink and blue. That is a recipe for failure against someone like Wlad.
He needs to tighten up his defense and body.
A Haye fight would be interesting, I'd pick Povetkin right now because he has fought at heavyweight his whole career and is used to the weight but I could change my mind if Haye impresses me in his first couple of fights at heavyweight.
what i mean by subdued is he would run out of answers of how to close the range etc and more than likely become discouraged
That could definitely happen.
I'm not sure if he'd get subdued because Chambers managed to hit him flush with counter right hands but he just kept coming forward but he could definitely get discouraged by Wlad's jab.

Calvin Brock had some success avoiding the big shot early on against Wladimir in a ugly fight. If Povetkin's gonna have a shot he'll have to make it like the first 4 rounds of Wlad-Brock because if he doesn't Wlad will get his jab working and it's lights out.
that was my fear that at range he would get peppered with the jab and boomed with the right hand and inside he would find it difficult to get inside but once he was there he would find it difficult to stay there
he does seem like one of those fighters u can tame and subdue with the jab aswell

He would need to get inside and stay inside against Wlad but getting inside against Wlad is going to be very tough for him because he has to open himself up to get inside and that leaves himself open for Wlad's right hand and staying inside won't be easy either because Wlad has gotten pretty good at holding onto his opponents when they get close.
That's the only way I think he can get past Wlad, try to get inside without getting hit himself and staying inside.

they do seem to be stepping up his competition quite soon IMO
Thats a great point i wish he had more pop or size ,do u see anyway in which he could get by Wlad

I think his management should wait a year or two before putting him in with Wlad because I think he will lose when they fight later in the year and that could ruin a young fighter.
But if it doesn't affect too much, I think he can become a titlist but I don't think he'll be the number 1 heavyweight as long as Wlad is around.
I'm not really sure about putting more muscle on because Povetkin relies on his workrate and added muscle could make him tire easier.
