Sometimes 2 unknown fighters who never became anything, square off against each other to produce some of the most unforgettable and thrilling moments in boxing.
This was one of them.
This is why some people wants boxing ban. A disgrace to the sport, the fighters, the referee and the supporters. I guess they are the same people who stands in the way of the paramedics at a car accident or a fire tacking pictures or likes wrestling.
Agreed! What made the fight you posted so special is how the tide would turn so damn quickly. As soon as you thought one guy was gonna go, boom the other guy was down. Cooper vs Moorer was not as good because the tide would turn, but the momentum change was gradual. It was still a great fight though. yes, and neither of these guys was the calibre of a michael moorer or even bert cooper, they basically flashed briefly on their best night, and went away.
i actually watched an interview with the guy Leland Hardy, and he seemed like an intelligent man, speaks different languages, very educated, seems like he didnt need boxing to support himself
he also picked buster douglas to beat Mike Tyson before that fight.
youtube also has a short film that went into the Festival. it's just over 16 minutes in length, for anyone that's interested i can post the video.
yep, i still wouldnt pick that fight over this one. there's a lot of exciting ones, like derrick jefferson vs maurice harris, brewster ettiene, couple of others
but man, the way these guys went at each other....brutal

Anyone ever see Michael Moorer vs Smokin Bert Cooper?/ yep, i still wouldnt pick that fight over this one. there's a lot of exciting ones, like derrick jefferson vs maurice harris, brewster ettiene, couple of others

It was more Foreman vs Lyle than Hagler vs Hearns.
Good stuff.
i know but i just meant in terms of excitement generally. Majority of fans and historians usually rank those 3 rounds as the most exciting rounds in boxing history. this fight easily takes that claim, but these are not household names. i did mention it was worthy of a mention next to foreman-lyle
but this fight might be even more exciting than foreman-lyle
Man, THANK YOU.
That hook in the end of the 2nd round?....:nonono:
The SOUND of it....:notworthy
Thank you, thread starter. awesome man, glad you enjoyed it, it was one sweet brawl :boxing:
that hook landed like a hammer, i dont know how these guys were taking these punches

Unbelievable. I screamed "holy shit!!" twice after watching that. That's great about boxing. No matter what level you can get excitement. That was one of the best fights I've seen in my life. although ive see it before many times, every time im watching it, i still get that feeling. i agree this is one of the best underrated fights, that no one remembers today.
this is what boxing needs, this is what it's all about. there was magic on that night in madison square garden
I saw this one before a long time ago, but forgot all about it. Thank you man for treating me to this again. Awesome stuff.
no problem man, i too saw this maybe a year ago, felt like watching it again, and decided to share it with you guys. a damn good fight! too bad these guys were never able to get to the next level, they fought like champs on this night though.
