mr thompson if you have any sense at all you will not step in the ring with wladimir on the 12th of july. you do not realise what you are getting yourself in for. please dont put yourself in line to be savagely beaten.
tony take the easy way out
nobody will think any less of you as a fighter
I actually dont think he can beat Wladimir. lol. Im just supporting my fighter. but if I use a sprinkle of imagination...
Wlad starts off very slow, and tends to just use his jab. Ibragimov was able to win the first round against Wlad because of that by using body shots, and Thompson is one of the most consistant body punchers at heavyweight. this should be able to win him a couple of early rounds and hurt Wlad's stamina, which is questionable.
In the middle rounds, Wlad will start throwing the right hand and left hook. But Thompson keeps a high guard, which will help him out here because Wlad never throws body shots. A high guard and an opponent that is right in front of you makes the other guy eager to try to be offensive, which will lure Wlad into throwing more often than he usually does, hes going to win these rounds but most of the punches arent really going to hurt Thompson.
Later on Wlad will be tired, and Thompson's consistant punch output and early body work will pay off and win him those rounds.
also, Wlad is vulnerable to left hands while pulling back after clinching, and Thompson is good at throwing left hands at odd angles. Thompson also throws combinations and likes to work in close, which will help when Wlad tries to clinch. plus Wlad almost never counters, he can only lead with punches to get anything done. when someone comes foward, he usually pulls back and posts his left hand. If Tony continues to always come foward and not give Wlad any real target with his high guard, Wlad might be thrown off stride.
end dream sequence.
Actually the way it could be done is to prepare to close the distance and work the body as much as possible, as well as work on uppercuts. Wlad has no inside game whatsoever, all he does is clinch his opponents when they get too close. Thompson must be prepared to eat a few jabs but he must get on the inside, it's Wlad's weakest spot. If Thompson stays on the outside, he will lose because Wlad cannot be outboxed from the distance, that's his perfect fight. I know it's easier said than done but I believe that it's the only Thompson's shot. I was really looking forward to Ibragimov doing just that and the fool just kept at the distance getting peppered by that jab. That's a perfect recipe to lose against Wlad, I still don't get that strategy.
You are one of Tony's few fans. Props to you for picking him when most of us naturally pick Wladimir. I've never seen Thompson fight so I can't really pick him to win.
What can you tell us about his style and why do you think he will UD Wladimir?

I was wrong earlier. actually wlad has sum really gd fights, the sanders fight was great and so was the first brewster fight!
you are just hater and forum troll
no i aint. tell me a fight where he was excitin and i will go watch it right now. i have his entire career on discs
1 exciting Wlad fight?
with the exception of a few fights most of his fights havent been exciting for the mere fact he;s usually totally dominating his opponents. I dont think I can count on one hand how many rounds he's lost in all his 50+ fights and 44ko's
It's a hurt business, dude. What they hell do you think this shit is, Ice skating? You afraid to get hurt, why even step into the ring?
he is fighting he the hardest puncher in the whole world,im just telling him there is a chance he may get hurt very badly
for fear of being terribly hurt, i think it would better for thompson to not risk it

Yeah, his last fight with Iggy was pretty boring for sure! He fights a lot smarter now and has adapted his style so that his less than iron chin doesn't get tested as much. You can't really blame the guy, it's actually really smart.
Out of Wlad's last 9 fights, you can really only argue that 2 of them were boring. Only 1 IMO. In his past 9 only two have gone the distance. That is pretty good if you ask me..
yes i think alot of people are too hard on him, ok his last fight was probably one of the worst ive seen but that doesnt make him a boring fighter. people call him boring just because of one fight
Wlad is a very good fighter and fights smart with Emanuel in his corner.
Who cares what some internet-boys are thinking. Wladimir is winnig his fights and this is very important for a Champion. And winning fights is much more important without any promoter behind you.
Wlad is the man!
ya people here just want to hate on wlad
12th of July? That's a day after my birthday.... it better be exciting

Well nobody would think less of him as a fighter cuz we don't think much of him anyway.
Throw him in with the long line of jokes the HW champ has been fighting. Can't blame him.
You may be right, but these guys are professional fighters and most of them have too much pride to back out of a fight like that. It's like the old Greek saying,
"Come home with your shield, or on it!"
very true sir. i have much respect for tony thompson, he is a brave man
Well, the first Brewster fight was pretty damn exciting! Wlad was kicking the shit out of Brewster and somehow, Brewster came back and KO'd Wlad! This was before Wlad was with Steward and his stamina was shit! I remember the Peter fight being entertaining as well. Wlad got knocked down a few times but outboxed the shit out of Peter and made him look like an amature.
I think the lower weight divisions have more excitement as do most but Wlad can end a fight with one punch! Like him or not, that fucker can hit like a truck and there is always excitement in knowing this. He broke Calvin Brock down, outboxed him and when he got an opening Knocked him the fuck out!
If you have his entire career, surely there must be many exciting fights! Have you even watched them all yet. He used to go all out and just try to knock people out before he got hooked up with Steward. Now he is much more tactical or boring, however you want to look at it.
yeh some of his earler fights were pretty cool but now he is borin as imo
Why would he back out of the fight? Even though he doesn't have a good chance to win, it's probably the biggest payday of his career and the only chance he'll get at a world title... Why the fuck would he back out?
Shit, I'd step in the ring and let him knock me the fuck out if I was going to get a few hundred thousand dollars.. I'd even try my best.
