i see a lot of people saying joe will win by a ud or a late ko.
joe can definitely ko people- but he does it by accumulation of punches- i don't think anyone here would argue that joe has one-punch ko power.
he doesn't...
roy isn't what he used to be- but i honestly feel he is a much harder puncher than joe, and he's also very fast. i just think it's silly to write jones off against calzaghe. jones doesn't have to worry as much with joe about some kind of hammer punch putting him to sleep out of nowhere. i think roys counter punches are quickly becoming an underrated factor in this fight.
i also don't feel joe could knock roy out, he won't connect enough.
but joe does have a great chin. should be a great fight
for the record im not even a huge jones fan, but he isn't going to be easy work for joe by any means if you ask me
Ever hit a 100 lb. heavy bag? I personaly watched Glen Johnson knock that heavy bad completely off the chains and onto the floor with a 5 punch combo. You can't tell me he doesn't punch hard, he is a BEAST.
I think Jones always had more punching power than Calzaghe when he was in his prime.
It's rather obvious by now that since Calzaghe hasn't been able to KO anyone in years, he has no pop left.
If Jones shows Calzaghe some good power early, Joe will hesitate before trying to come in, he does get gunshy and stays back if he is getting countered good.
One thing we all know, if it's a boxing match rather than a brawl, Jones has the advantage, he is smarter than Joe - no doubt about it, he will find a way to land lead rights all night. Calzaghe misses alot, and when he does connect, it isn't hard.
Jones will land the cleaner, more effective punches - now whether the judges award him for that is another story. Obviously, some judges (and HBO's Punchstats) count "love taps" as a punch, - but not me - which has led me to completely ignore "punchstats" from HBO and ESPN.
I will be rooting for Jones in this meaningless matchup, but I won't be watching it...
Exactly, that was probably the worst possible strategy for Cintron.
I agree but when u have a puncher like Cintron u have to think he can hurt the guy! Not so!
Cotto aint just a better boxer than Cintron but also a better fighter! A very very real chance Cotto gets KO'd against Marg but im pretty sure he gets the win too.
Anyway Joe has some power, respectfull puncher rather than concussive.
I hope Joe is a BIG odds on favourite coz im betting on Roy, he still has speed to burn and hits sharp and hard, his legs are what let him down these days but he can lay on the ropes and fight from there if he chooses. His chin aint great but i dont think its as glass as some beleive. Roy by mid rounds sudden KO
Bernard Hopkins has changed his style up to remain effective at 43.
Although Roy has changed his style too, he has fought who?
Hanshaw was a joke fight, and Tito is by no means a 170 lb'er.
I think Roy will get frustrated in this fight, resort to his old style, thinking Joe can't hurt him. That's when Joe scores the stoppage, when Roy underestimates Joe's accuracy and power.
Nobody has EVER accused Joe of slapping after they have fought him, remember. His power is underestimated before the fight, but never after they have been on the receiving end.
Roy is not quick or sharp enough to dodge Joe's fast hands anymore, he has to work out how else he can neutralise Joe's output. Unfortunately, although a good counter puncher, he is not as good as Hopkins, and Hopkins couldn't do it, and I doubt Roy could either.
If Roy can stick to a concrete gameplan he is more than capable of pulling it off, but I can't help but see Joe stopping him late.
roy isnt a better counter puncher than bernard? uh what...
bernard hopkins lost a SD at 43

That's true, Manny wanted Kermit to out-tough Margarito. In order to be successful you need to know your strengths and your weaknesses, as well as your opponents. Manny should of known they weren't going to out Balls Margarito, he should of told him to not stop moving, and keep a quick jab in his face. Use Margarito's weaknesses against him.
Instead he told him to walk towards the windmill, instead of away from it. Bad move.

That's why I'm hoping Cotto will be able to stick to his gameplan when the going gets tough because it is going to get rough and tough in there for him against Margarito.
Cotto is a better boxer than Cintron and honestly, Manny Steward gave him some bad instructions during the fight, telling him to go forward and push Margarito back, which put him right in Margarito's line of fire. By the time Steward told Cintron to box, it was too late, not to say Cintron would've beaten Margarito but you never know.

Right, I can't pick a winner... if I HAD too, I would go with Cotto as well, for the same reasons you said... hes a lot quicker, good quick jab, better footwork... the problem comes when, you start hitting someone with everything you got, and they keep coming forward as if your punches mean absolutely nothing... and thats what Margarito seems to bring.

I definitely felt Cintron was the better boxer in their fight, but we all see how that turned out. With that said, I think Cotto is a better boxer than Kermit... but still. Anything could really happen in this fight...
I can't even bet on it.

I actually think it's a pretty hard fight to call, I'm just giving the edge to Cotto because he is the better boxer, he punches shorter, has better footwork and movement and I think or at least I hope he is smart enough to stick to a gameplan when the going gets tough.
But I can also see Margarito just overwhelming him with the amount of punches he throws with power, it'll be interesting to see how Cotto deals with the constant pressure.

i think he fought way too soon after the tarver KO
Joe should win this fight.... hopin for a roy victory...
That could've been the case, I guess we'll find out if they fight.
Johnson isn't that great of a puncher either but he managed to knock Jones out.
I agree though that Jones still has very good speed and pretty good power.
