I didn't really feel the Johnson and Tarver fights proved anything except that Jones is unable to come back down to LH and keep his conditioning. I think it probably ruined him. Notice that his work rate was nearly nothing in the first Tarver fight (I felt like Tarver won that one too, though it was close enough that I didn't flip when they read the cards)? I think he'd have been OK at cruiser, but LH was just too far, too fast, and he's never going to be what he was.

Personally, a loss or two on a fighter's record is no big deal to me. If Jones somehow pulled the win out of his ass for this fight, it probably wouldn't make a great deal of difference either way as far as I'm concerned, regarding Calzaghe. It would, however, make me respect RJJ a great deal more. I just don't think there's any way he can pull it off, not at LH or SM, and Calzaghe isn't going to move up to any other weight class. Calzaghe's got too good a chin, and is about as experienced as Roy. And Calzaghe can go a full 12 throwing the entire fight. Jones can't manage half that. Calzaghe by late TKO. There won't be any way for Jones to slow the pace (short of cheating, like Hopkins did), and he'll be completely gassed by 8. The first 2 rounds will be exciting, though, with Jones making the attempt to KO Calzaghe because he knows this will be his only real chance at winning this fight.

yes he will. we all know roy is a shell of his former self, and losing to him now would really hurt joe! that being said, i don't see it happening. roy may still have alot of tools, but he is not active enough owrkrate wise to hang with joe imo.

Well, if he does lose it'll be a story with two sides I would say. His reasonable fans (who I consider myself to be one of!) will be disappointed and surprised, but also able to realise that losing to Roy Jones is not the biggest failing the world has ever seen, since he was one of the most naturally talented boxers ever. However, unless we see a static, slow and aged Calzaghe who is clearly over the hill, it would still require a pretty drastic revision of how I rate him. The other side will be those who will seek to say Calzaghe is a bum, but perhaps I pay too much credence to these type of opinions because I post on here and read them everyday. I'm not sure many serious boxing fans think like this. Anyway there will be plenty of guys saying this whatever. I find your views on the Kessler fight quite interesting. The truth is that prior even to Lacy a lot of people wondered if Calzaghe might be going one fight too far at his age, against a supposedly monstrous puncher. A lot of people, including me were surprised when he looked so good, I mean it was arguably a career best performance! Trouble was though that Lacy was so poor that by the time Kessler came around it was the same story again, clearly Kessler was the real deal and maybe he might just turn out to be just as good as Joe, only younger, and beat him. When Joe dominated once again I was convinced he was absolutely the real deal, as were lots of fans. As you say, he did set the bar very high, and I think now its is a case from his critics of saying "come on then do it against B-Hop", which is borderline impossible, but which hasn't stopped many from saying Joe is a fraud. As I've mentioned and posted before though, I do think Joe is the real deal and I'm pretty sure he'll look good against Jones. Sure Jones has power and hand speed and a defence more suited to his new limitations, but in truth is stamina and legs are gone, and I expect to see plenty of Roy covering up in the face of Calzaghe trademark flurries. Unless Calzaghe either shows Jones too much respect and enters into a slow paced and at distance boxing match, or by some unlikely event Jones manages to KO him then I'm very confident that Calzaghe will win. The way for him to do it is just go and do what he does, impose himself on Jones and show why he not Jones is currently in the P4P. Sounds simple doesn't it?! u should be very confident aswell i cant see anyway in which Jones wins this fight im not saying Calzaghe is a poor fighter like David Diaz but Diaz was probably half the fighter Eric Morales was and Diaz managed to beat Morales mainly due to his age and and how shot he was ,Calzaghe is a much better fighter than David Diaz if 50% of the Joe that beat Kessler turns up he will win and look impressive doing it

I think Joe loses a lot of stock legacy-wise if he loses to Roy now. Not sure what it does for Roy's.
