As I thought he would, Calzaghe chooses to fight an OVER THE HILL ROY JONES JR. instead of an actual "meaningful" fight with Pavlik.
Predictable, as he knows Pavlik is much more dangerous than RJJ at this point in their careers. But then, like I said in another post -- Enzo has protected Joe his entire career, and after hearing Pavliks' punches land on Lockett, he knew Pavlik would throw Joe a beating.:boxing:
All of you Calzaghe nuthuggers should bow your head in shame, because even you have to admit Joe Calzaghe is now, and has been, THE most protected fighter in the last 15 years.
Having faced only 3 decent challengers at most in his ENTIRE career, it's all about getting a "W" on the record for Joe -- not about fighting the BEST fighters out there....

I agree that Enzo decided to protect Joe from the Pavlik fight plus he probably thought intelligently that beating Jones was more doable which could enhance the fight monetarily with Pavlik should he be the next fight. But I may put some real money on Jones jr in this one simply because Jones will be the underdog and still shows glimpses of his former self and he will be highly motivated in this fight which I think is what he needs to get back what he lost.
Well, it looked to me like the OLD Middleweight Hopkins pushed Joe around all night and definately made Calzaghe fight BHops fight, not Joes'. Calzaghe is not as strong as you seem to think, and BTW Pavlik is taller than Joe is, he would easily carry more weight into the fight if he had to go up in weight. However, Joe would have a hard time going down in weight, if he did manage to make the weight - which I doubt he could, then he would be even weaker than he is now as far as punching goes.
Joe knows Roy Jones Jr throws what - maybe 10 punches per round now lol, he just stays on the ropes now and lets people hit him. Roy is a SHADOW of his former self, make no mistake about it, that is why Joe wants him now, because 10 years ago - he wouldn't touch him and everyone in the boxing world knows it.
Pavlik may be easy to hit, but with no power, it wouldn't matter, Pavlik would just walk through a Calzaghe punch and deliver his own MUCH harder shot. If Hopkins can knock Joe down --- Pavlik can knock him OUT....
Outta NOWHERE!!
Damn doode, your really saying everything word for word as I would..
Good k man..
Calzaghe will fight and beat both Jones and Pavlik before he retires, so quit your bitching!
Jones would give Joe more problems because Roy's used to fighting at a higher weight and will be the first fighter Joe has faced that may have a hand speed advantage.
Pavlik is a basic 1,2 (left jab, straight right) puncher who Calzaghe would figure out very easily and give Kelly angles and distances that will make him look foolish at times and will force him to slow down his pace. Kelly would be lucky to do as good as Kessler did IMO. I like Pavlik and think he will be a star for years to come in the MW-SMW division after Joe retires.
You cant judge Joe on the Hopkins fight. Hop is a crafty veteran who will make just about any fighter look bad, look how bad Tarver and Winky looked against him, yet Joe got the win and controled the fight from the 5th round on. How good do you think Pavlik would look against Hopkins?
kelly beats lockett and hes popularity shoots up , man be realistic kelly wouldnt destroy joe. be close but would go 12 rounds. when calzaghe gets hit hard he comes back even better
LOL. Lockett has jack shit to do with Pavlik's popularity.
Uneducated hick?! LOL - Son, you don't even know me, and for the record I have a Masters, thank you very much - now go back to your kindergarden class and learn how to spell Lockett you little limey twit...
If you had a masters i'm sure you'd have better things to do than come up with irritating threads on a boxing forum. good day.
No doubt about it, 10 years ago Calzaghe wouldn't touch Roy, then again, 10 years ago NOBODY could beat RJJ. Sadly, Jones is now a shadow of his former self, it's a shame really, Roy is a friend of mine, but he is like Evander to me - they just can't say enough is enough...
probably but roy was the one that didn't want to fight joe, if not this fight would of probably had already happened
As much as I love Roy and watching him fight I kind of don't want this fight to happen. A decade ago Roy absolutely murders Joe but I'm just not sure he would do himself justice now. Not sure I could bear to watch it.

That's Hop that kept taking a dive to buy himself breaks, right?
Oh... Hopkins fought Joe as a bulked-up Light Heavyweight, not a middleweight. Sorry to correct you.
I didn't say I liked Hopkins tactics, I said he controlled the fight, and he did.
As far as Hopkins is concerned - he is a blown up Middleweight, period.
And he STILL gave Calaghe all he could handle even at his age, for anyone to think for a second that Calzaghe would be able to handle a young gun like Pavlik at this point is rediculous...
ALL my points say if the fight ever happens, Pavlik beats the crap out of Joe Calzaghe. I say Pavlik stops him by a TKO Round 9 or 10...
calzaghe will fight both RJJ and Pavlik before retiring. Assuming he wins the first one. After his divorce and lack of big fights at SMW he wants as much cash as possible.
No world class boxer would be afraid of fighting Pavlik. That is the stupidest thing ive ever heard.
Pavlik is a monster in the ring, he is beating the crap out of opponants.
Calzaghe on the other hand, is a rather featherfisted chap now.
He hasn't had a KO in YEARS, he would not be able to keep Pavlik off of him. A fighter like Pavlik at this point, beats Joe every day of the week and twice on Sunday...
I didn't say Calzaghe hit harder, I said he was stronger, there is a big difference.
How hard you hit is your power.
You strength is exactly what it says, strength. Pushing fighters back, bullying them into accepting what you want them to do, etc
Calzaghe is stronger, believe me.

What Pavlik has done to his recent opponents with the solid opposition he has been facing, it convinces me more.
Calzaghe at this point does not hit harder than Pavlik. Pavlik has a pretty decent chin along with heart aswell.
I would favor him to win over Calzaghe.

Pavlik might hit hard, but that has nothing to do with strength.
Calzaghe has bullied bigger men and is the far stronger man.
