I re-evaluate my assessment...
at 168 the fight would be fair, after remembering the JT rematch was at 166...
at 175, i dont think it would be a great win
at 168.. it WOULD be a great win....
I don't think the weight issue makes a difference. I mean, Calzaghe went up to fight Bernard, but the majority of his career has been at SMW if I'm not mistaken right? Pavlik comes into the ring fight night at about 170 lbs anyway. Everything would carry over no problem.
Look at the physical comparisons:
Calzaghe: 5'11 168-175lbs, 74" reach
Pavlik: 6'2 160-170lbs, 75" reach
Tellin me this fight can't and shouldn't happen?
Calzaghe fighting Pavlik IS a big deal. You have the undefeated SMW & Light Heavy champ fighting the Recognized Undefeated Middleweight champ of the world. How can you NOT sell that fight?
read the first post
bernard is 43... of course its a big win... and also was a MW his entire career... its slightly different...
and youve got it backwards... calzaghe beating bernard isnt a BIG win..... stilll a good win.... but because bernard is 43 and fought at MW his whole career... its not as HUGE
this isnt a diss towards calzaghe... yall are getting to defensive... im not dissing calzaghe... im simply saying... kelly fights 2 classes below where joe fights no...

Theres a pale moon in the sky
The kind you make your wishes on
Like the light in your eyes
The one I built my dreams upon
Its not there any longer
Something happened somewhere
And we both know why
But me, Im getting stronger
We must stop pretending
I cant live this life
I dont care whos wrong or right
I dont realy wanna fight no more (too much talking babe)
Lets sleep on it tonight
I dont really wanna fight no more (this is time for letting go)
lol, i hate you. :)

im not gonna argue over 6 pounds, on a subject that has nothing to do with this thread...
I said the weigh in.. and he WEIGHED in at 193.. its on boxrec..
i still cannot believe your in your 30's :nonono:
I can see this bullshit starting already, it's all over NSB.
It looks like the yanks have learnt their harsh lessons from the Lacy fight, and are now instead trying to discredit their fighter BEFORE he gets schooled.
As recent as a few days ago, the general consensus was that Calzaghe didn't want nothing to do with Kelly because he battered Lockett (who is a LMW, by the way )
Now the general consensus is that Kelly is too small?
Does it really hurt that much to give any credit to a fighter who isn't American? Because it's sure beginning to look like...
I, for one, am not trying to downplay the meaning of a Calzaghe win over Pavlik. If Joe can pull it off, he'll probably go down as the third-best fighter of this era, trailing only Mayweather and RJJ.
That said, Pavlik is heads and shoulders above Lacy, and more formidable than Kessler. IMO it's too close to call.
Kudos to both of these guys for stepping up to the plate and making a supremely meaningful fight that all true boxing fans are dying to see.
Arum wouldn't let Pavlik fight Calzaghe in Wales, let alone at 175. Who do you think he is? the devil?
No, he is an idiot.
If he wasn't, Pavlik wouldn't be fighting JC at all...
well ill be honest... i forgot that in the JT rematch pavlik fought at 166... so 168, really wouldnt make a huge difference...
although I think 175 would... and i was basing my argument MORE on the fight being at 175, being that ive read Joe cant make 168 anymore...
so, if in fact the fight happens at 168, then it is in fact a great win for joe.. regardless of what I said about it being at 168... but 175... i just dont think it would be
So is this reasonable?
Then why include 168 in the thread title?
I like you, and you are usually a reasonable poster, but you're backpedalling pretty quickly.

Pot? Kettle? Black?
im simply talking if the fight happens at LHW...
is joe a true LHW? NO, he isnt..
but Pavlik is a MW!
if pavlik comes all the way up to LHW.. i dont see it as a huge win...
this is the only point im trying to make
