Hatton superfight with De La Hoya on cards.
Floyd Mayweather's retirement has moved Ricky Hatton into pole position for a potential superfight with Oscar De La Hoya later this year.
It is understood that Hatton, presently due to fight Paulie Malignaggi in November, could change course and meet the American, given that it has the pulling-power to generate huge pay-per-view sales.
The American Ronald 'Winky' Wright, or the winner of the meeting in July between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito are also possible opponents for De La Hoya.
Richard Schaefer, chief executive of Golden Boy, confirmed that "there will be an announcement this week" to detail De La Hoya's plans for later this year.
Discussions between Golden Boy and Hatton's management have been going on behind the scenes since the build-up to the Hatton-Mayweather fight in December last year.
De La Hoya appeared to rule himself out of a contest with Hatton following the Mancunian's defeat of Juan Lazcano at Manchester City's football ground last month, but in the same breath the American expressed his awe for Hatton's pulling power and folkloric status, which reminded him of the following for Mexican national hero Julio Cesar Chavez.

This would be a good fight, i can see Hatton workin ODLH body over and ending it like Hopkins... But shit if i had to bet id say Hatton by 11rd TKO!
No way. Hatton has a good left body shot but it definitely doesn't have the power that Hopkins had when he fought DLH. I reckon DLH would win it on points if they fight.
The Brits are so exaggerated it's a miracle it's taken this long for them to start talking nonsense of a fight with Oscar being in the works.
Right and I suppose you would be in a position to know what is happening ahead of a qualified journalist?

How is this nonsense?
The Hatton/DLH fight has been in the works for close to a year and would have already happened if Ricky beat Floyd. Ricky then turned the Oscar fight down since DLH offered the Forbes fight at 150 to Ricky. Hattons team felt 150 was too high of a weight for him to fight at.
Oscar has already said that he wont fight him, because he feels Ricky is a 140lb fighter. No fucking way Oscar makes 140, and if he makes Ricky come up to 147, he will look like a money hungry hypocrite.
That was before Floyd retired and if Oscar fought Gatti and Chavez twice I doubt Hattons size will stop the fight from happening. DLH was 150 for his last fight and Hatton was 140, so if they meet in the middle at 145 it would make sense for both fighters.

I'd enjoy watching Hatton have his ass handed to him. The fight would be the biggest money making fight in history, provided there is some sort of PPV system overseas.
It's similar to American PPV, but is not as expensive. Hatton/Floyd sold over 1 million PPV's in the UK and Ricky had a % of any sales over 300,000, that's why he ended up making more money than Floyd that night.
DLH knows Hatton can sell 1 million PPV's in the UK and he can do similar numbers in the States, plus Ricky can bring 100,000 people to a live gate at Wembley should the fight take place in the UK, which it probably will since it will make much more money here.
I think people are underestimating Hattons chances in this fight. If they fight at a catch weight of 145 Ricky has a good chance to take a decision. Gatti held his own against DLH and he was coming up 3 weight classes and Ricky is superior in every way to Gatti, while DLH is much older and slower now. As long as Ricky is careful early he has a good chance to out-work DLH late and we know Oscar doesn't like it to the body. Of course if Ricky runs into a left hook with his chin in the air he will get knocked out.
I'm pretty sure the midget would die in this fight. He's been rocked bad by left hooks in his last two fights. I can only imagine what the master hooker would do to him.
