I didnt say Kelly beats Joe , I said Joe dont have him for breakfast ,, Kelly is a lot more aggressive than Kessler and is more of a warrior in the trenches , also has a better more versatile kit of punches , Kessler is a passive stalker opportunist type that relys on a jab right hand and has nothing as a backup if that fails while Kelly is a predator that hunts you the entire fight and punches harder over the course of the fight than what Kessler does .
He dont have to beat somebody like Joe to be able to beat him , thats a stupid statement and not logical , Kelly will have no problems with Joes angles because his defense is tight and he punches with good hand speed , if Bhop can sit JC on his ass at 43 then Kelly can do a lot of damage if he gets on , I would bet a good bet Pavlik punches harder that Bhop .
What Im saying is Pavlik is a very dangerous fighter that would blow the likes of Lacy and Bika out of there ,, anybody that thinks Pavlik is easy are crazy he would be without a doubt Joes hardest fight .
I didn't mean you said Kelly beats Joe, I was talking about the general consensus from American's, sorry if you misunderstood.
Kessler is a better technical fighter than Pavlik, however, by a long way.
Joe didn't respect Hopkins power at first, got caught and learn his lesson. Only on one other occasion was he so much as wobbled, and that was because of a headbutt more than a punch.
I didn't say Kelly would be easy for Joe either, but, stylistically, Joe eats guys like Pavlik for breakfast.
Joes is not eating Pavlik for breakfast you better believe that , you need to take your rose colored glasses off , Pavlik is a bad ass any fool can see that , he beat Taylor twice who beat Hopkins twice who sat Cal on his rump and at times made JC look amateur , Miranda and Lockett was just his usual display of power , Kelly is 6'2'' and only 26 he hasnt peaked yet ,, I will be extremely surprised if Joe takes Pavlik over the easier Jones .
Yet the more unproven Pavlik will easily beat Joe?
Good logic there son.
We have two things to go on. Joe has beaten many people with power who fight in straight lines. Whether you like to admit it or not, Kessler is a better fighter Pavlik, and Joe dismantled him.
The second thing, Pavlik has never beaten anone who even remotely resembles Joe, and Pavlik will have big problems trying to nullify Calzaghe's angle and distance game.
good point. but kelly looked good.
if i was a joe fan i'd rather see him beat tarver and jones.
less risk more reward.
we don't know how history would view kelly in the future.
we know jone's name and tarver's. unbiased opinion...... if i was enzo i set up jones and tarver , then retire.
kelly is too much risk for not enough reward.
How it to go down in history as having beat Hopkins, Jones and Tarver, ALL OVER 40? You really want that? Will people ignore that as much after Joe is no longer in the limelight?
for his son that is. After tonight's massacre, it would be cruel to put his baby boy in there with Pavlik.
I hope your not Serious?
Calzaghe would school pavlik for 12 rounds
too Fast, too big, too cleaver
Enzo is a decent trainer, not a great one. His son happens to be a great figher.
Lockett had no real chance last night, real fans that know boxing know that he only had a very slim chance, that one-off shock result chance that don't happen too often. He was well out of his depth.
It would be a horrible miss-match had Lockett come up against Joe Calzaghe. He was out of his class last night and we learnt nothing more whatsoever about Pavlik.
But overall Pavlik is class, but Joe is a decade older and has won a dozen more fights, had more battles and been tested more. Pavlik at just 26 has this to come.
It would be a great fight to watch if Pavlik and Joe Calzaghe do come together, but I can only see Calzaghe winning. Pavlik is not the kind of boxer that Joe will struggle with, it's a straight up style with no tricks just good solid stuff. Joe will most likely control that fight with his better movement and knowledge of angles.
A good post. Pavlik does the basics very well with good power, nothing more. Joe eats guys like that for breakfast.

I can barely believe that you even had the gaul to write that complete crap like that.
I agree, Joe fights well when pressured. He has proven that in quite a few fights. However, to be incinuating that he hits or could possibly hit harder than Taylor is close to a retarted statement. He has almost no single punch KO power at ALL. Taylor does possess that kind of punch and 8 lbs will not change that very much. It took Taylor about 11 or so clean, un-answered punches to finally drop Pavlik, who was not even really hurt. He got right back up, moved to his corner for the count to reset himself to go back to work. Wich he did, obviously. I know that Joe does not have the kind of power it will take to KO Pavlik, so he will have to rely on a decision that will not be easy. No matter what you or the other die hard Joe Calzaghe fans say on here. It will be a close fight and the winner deserves one hell of a congratulations.
Joe has a more impressive KO record at a higher weight and at world level. Although he doesn't put full power into his punches due to his brittle hands, Joe has more than enough power to trouble Kelly if he were to get hurt. Say what you like about Calzaghe's opponents, but they earned their shot just like Lockett did, does Pavlik get any stick for a KO win over Lockett?
rematch with jermain don't count as a title defence?
It was at 166. I assume this was because Jermain thought he would win, but didn't want to risk his titles twice against a guy like Pavlik.
i dunno , spark.
too much risk not enough reward.
if i was joe i'd fight tarver and jones then retire. very winnable , much bigger money and less risk.
joe can outwork tarver and roy. kelly is young.
plus when you read the boxing hof book. you see eubank , hopkins , tarver , jones. not bad eh? people can say roy and hop and tarv are old but joe is no spring chicken either. it can lend proof to the argument that if they fought in their primes joe could've/would've beat them as well.
i'm one of those that don't rate the bernard win highly because bernard is old BUT a win over hopkins is still a WIN OVER HOPKINS! same thing for jones. kelly is much more dangerous now and we don't know yet how history will look at him. imagine if joe losses to kelly and kelly then loses to a bunch of mediocre fighters afterwards.
i'm just speaking from a pure legacy standpoint for joe of course. obviously as a boxing fan i want to see a pavlik-cal fight.
Contrary to popular belief, Joe has always tried to secure the most difficult fights for himself. The guy craves respect, and beating Pavlik would finally show the American public that he is for real, and that is pretty much all he wants.
This is true, Pavlik is not a guy who is going to reign supreme.
But he will be a superstar in the sport, he has that Ricky Hatton appeal. I'll always watch him fight.
i mean we don't know for sure. but i don't see it. he'll run into someone talented and they'll have wars and he'll win some and lose some.
i'll always watch him fight too. win or lose it'll be a good fight.
Your opinion means very little. Since that is all hater talk.
Joe Chicken dance............?
Hopkins caught him, and then pushed him down. So what?, he then ran for rest of the SAME round.
There are different classes of fighters. If you think Pavlik is a guy who is going to reign for a long time you are clutching at straws.
Joe looks shit against people who don't fight (Hopkins). Pavlik only has one gear. It would be a great fight
I like Pavlik but I can't see him beating Joe at all. Roy Jones old as fuck or not is a bigger test imo.
if he fights crappy opponents like calzaghe did his whole career he will. look what he did to lockett hes on teh right track!
i dunno , spark.

The title actually wasn't on the line in that fight since it was at a catchweight.
why couldn't jermain make the weight? it was right after the freaking first fight at 160?
yeah pavlik wouldn't be able to hurt joe at all. hopkins decked him and had him chicken dancing around at the end of another round. and yeah joe is not strong. face it the only way joe can win is by gift wrapped decision like against hopkins. lots of punches and stupid angles but no substance.

Pavlik would secure Calzaghe's legacy.
Joe would destroy that boy. Anybody who has followed Calzaghe's career would know this.
Lockett is not good, stood in front of him and didn't move his head.....well done.
Also Pavlik wouldn't be able hurt Joe seriously with one shot, and he would be getting and tore up on the inside. Joe's strength is key.
Joe could stop Pavlik if he lands enough uppercuts. This fight would be uppercut city.

:lol1:
The yanks have ago at us Brits over hyping our fighters! Pavlik has his FIRST title defence and already he's king of the world, P4p #1.
No way does Pavlik beat Joe, NO WAY.
rematch with jermain don't count as a title defence?

My opinion of Pavlik has nothing to do with tonights win, I knew this guy didn't have a prayer, but he was the so called "manditory" if I remember correctly. Folks, Pavlik is an absolute Heavy Handed BEAST - the kind that intends to hurt you with every punch he throws.
So for the sake of arguement, I would just love to hear what Calzaghe brings to the ring that is better than what Taylor has to offer. (it's not much if anything) I don't care how many pitty pat punches he throws per round so don't go there.
Face it folks, Calzaghe has faced what - 3 or 4 (at most) real challengers in all those wins. Even an old Hopkins actualy stayed in control of the fight, and there was nothing Joe could do about it.
Again, Calzaghe hasn't had a KO win in YEARS -- NO WAY he wins against Pavlik -- he won't even fight him, Enzo has done a good job keeping Joe "safe" throughout his career -- he won't stop doing that now.:nonono:
So now Joe is comapred to Gary Lockett. I really have heard it all.
NEWSFLAsH: Gary lost to Pavlik because he was outclassed, Joe is more than a few steps above Lockett on the "class ladder" and would not be an easy win for Pavlik, not at all.
All enzo has seen is Pavlik's power, which is nothing new.
Joe could easily take Pavlik's best punch on the chin and still throw back, has Pavlik proved he could do the same? Not yet he hasn't.
Anyone who truly believes what the thread starter is trying to imply (Pavlik KO's Calzaghe easily) either doesn't know boxing or is in serious need of institutionalised help.
Stop sweating all over joes nuts, Pavlik has proved he can take a punch and still come back he was knocked down in round 1 vs Taylor still came back to win it.
Okay, I get the pun now. I just came in at the end. I guess Pavlik fans are making it more of a deal because Enzo was Lockett's trainer and he was expected to do better. I knew how it would go, but I was impressed with the way Lockett took a knee. So professional. He knew he was going to get clobbered more and knew what he had to do with no shame. I respect things like that. By the way, I am a Rjj fan. I root for Pavlik and Calzaghe on the side. If I had to watch them fight - it would be win , win for me. I like both fighters and its hard for me to root for one or the other. Just don't ask me who will win out of Jones and Pavlik or Calzaghe.
I agree, Taking a knee is "embarassing" but effective, same i like Pavlik a lot since he doesn't do a lot of smack talking and is a hard worker, how can u not be a fan of the guy, I also like Calzaghe a lot too, If the fight is made i'll cheer for both lol but i think Joe would win a close but clear UD
Go Pavlik, Calzaghe!
