Mogens Palle, the manager of Mikkel Kessler, says he is in preliminary discussions with Team Roy Jones Jr. Palle wants Kessler to fight Jones if Kessler gets by Sartison.
Who would win?
Nice honest post. Regarding the slowness you and other posters claim I dont see it. Kessler has great footwork and is pretty quick with his hands. He completely outclassed (a limited I know) Librado Andrade with his footwork.
Kessler is not slow by any stretch of the imagination.
I'm really surprised at the poll results. I can't really decide on the fight, but I'm shocked that Kessler is winning by that many votes. He's stationary and fairly slow... RJJ might not be close to his prime, but he still definitely can throw solid shots on slow targets w/ plenty of power.
I honestly haven't seen enough of Kessler outside of 3-4 fights to make a legitimate pick in this fight. Later this month after his next fight maybe I'll feel more confident to make a pick that isn't just being pulled out of my ass.

Kessler would knock Roy out.
Roy will NEVER fight him.
nice signature, legend killer? he beat an OLD eubanks in the "toughest fight of his career" and an old as hell hopkins uncovincingly in most opinions, i dont even hate calzaghe that much but shit like that, being blindy obsessed over for beating the old guys come on..
anyways i'd guess decision either way
I'll be happy if he faces either. If Jones is not shot then I agree he is a more dangerous opponent than Kelly, but he certainly isn't prime so I take Joe to beat him anyway. I think a loss to Pavlik would be worse than a loss to Jones in most people's eyes since no matter what, Jones was once truly great. I think the prospect of Calzaghe losing to either is extremely unlikely.
Good points. Styles make fights...which leads me to believe that Kessler will be a lot tougher for Roy than Calzaghe. But Jones is willing to fight either - this I know. But it's Calzaghe he wants badly...and if you look a little closer, you can see why. Ah yes...the Theatre of the Unexpected.
Hopkins mentioned a lot of the negotiations himself with Warren. Needless to say, he was stunned.
But a lot of it is common sense too if you think about it. Jones is a dangerous unknown. He may be shot but...what if he isn't? How bad would it be to lose to a shot fighter? What makes Jones appealing is that he offers more money than Pavlik or any other fighter. So you have to wonder why Joe C. wouldn't take it - there's no guarantee Pavlik fights him next.

All perfectly possible, so I can't say you're wrong, but I can't say that I make the opinions of Bernard Hopkins a very authoritative source.

Check the last two Hopkins interviews on B-Talk. He mentions it A LOT.
As for the second part, I am not privy to negotiations. But I am aware that Jones will take a 40% split for this bout. However, he'd like a rematch clause if it's to take place in the UK. I've heard nothing since so I'm surprised negotiations have stalled.
But Hopkins said in his interview that this is what would happen. He said Roy would wait a whole summer and wonder why the deal hadn't been signed.

Do you have a link to this? I didn't see it.
So we will never hear it, but you wouldn't be surprised if we did? That makes sense. How exactly do you know if it's a lie or not?

I give Jones a much better chance at beating Joe. Jones against Kessler would be a terrible styles matchup and i can see Kessler getting to him at some point during the fight.
Jones will probably end up fighting Kessler...and lose.
Calzaghe is not all that interested in fighting Jones. As Bernard Hopkins said, "aint no way Calzaghe is fighting Roy Jones." And he listed quite a few reasons. I don't think he's wrong.
And for those who are saying Roy is demanding too much - this is a lie. And you will never hear Calzaghe or Warren even PRETEND that's the case...although I wouldn't be surprised.
