Pavlik is a bigger puncher P4P than is Kessler. Kessler hasn't scored any significant knockouts in big fights, not counting the already spent force Marcus Beyer. Pavlik commits to his punches, particularly the right cross. With his long frame he can get some good leverage on his shots.
We haven't seen Pavlik at 168 yet so it's hard to say how his power is up there. Pound for pound, it's hard to say.
We are not talking P4P, I would hazard a guess that the point of this thread is that a lot of people are saying that Pavlik could KO Calzaghe easily, but when presented with the Kessler arguement, they dismiss Kessler as a powder puff puncher.
This is not even remotely close to true.
Pavlik CLEARLY hits a lot harder then Kessler, absoultely no doubt about it what so ever.
Kessler isnt even a power puncher lol. You could ask Kessler himself who hits harder, and he'd say Pavlik.
Kessler is a very very skilled fighter, very fluid and exciting the watch, and he has a pretty good punch, but he nothing close to a pure "power puncher" like Pavlik is.
You can credit all of those 17 clean KO's to fighting horrible competition in Denmark.
Pavlik was raised on tough mexicans and the like. Not saying Pavlik is better now, but he fought much more live competition on his way up
The bit in bold is the most intelligent thing you have ever said, however the stupid quickly rears his ugly head again.
Kessler is not a power puncher because he boxes his way in, making him a "boxer/puncher".
The only way you are ever going to catch Joe flush enough to trouble him is with supreme timing, speed and outstanding boxing ability. Kessler had the timing, he had the speed and he had the boxing ability, but he didn't have the power to make the punch do any real damage. If Pavlik is a "pure power puncher" like you claim he is, the fact you believe he can catch Calzaghe when "pure boxers" with the 3 attributes I mentioned earlier have trouble doing this makes me feel embarrassed for you.
It is not a difficult assumption to make that the higher up in weight the more power a boxer has. The power difference from MW to SMW, although negligible, is enough to make a difference. Kessler carries unbelievable power by SMW standards, hitting as hard as many LHW's. Pavlik has only fought above 160 once I believe, and his power didn't appear to have carried that well.
Kessler is by far the bigger puncher, but even if I concede and and admit that it is even, (which it isn't, it's not even close) Pavlik still doesn't have enough power to put Joe away.
They have different types of punching power. Kessler has a snap punch that can render guys out of it. Pavlik is more of a hurting heavy puncher. Pavlik really just commits more to knocking guys out as he really wants to beat guys up and will take chances doing it. Kessler is happy just doing his thing and does not care if his opponent falls or not. If Kessler committed more and took more chances, he would have a much higher KO ratio.
I cannot imagine either of their opponents liking being on the end of their punches. If Pavlik concentrated on body punching more, he would be incredibly hard to beat. He throws digging body shots like Cotto and Margarito, and we know that their body shots can do.
I dont care if your chin is made out of iron, If you get tagged like Kessler was tagging andrade then you go down easily..Thats if you have any power. But Kessler couldnt even put him down. Andrade was taking full on shots to the head/temple but was still standing, Anybody with decent power would have KO andrade that night.
absolutely.
It has nothing to do with a great chin. Kessler was hitting Andrade with every punch in the book, from every angle, and Andrade never buckled.
He has a great chin, no doubt about it, but when he get that flush that often, you usually get knocked out.
Anyone who thinks Pavlik hits harder than Kessler has obviously only ever seen his fight against the granite chinned Calzaghe.
Kessler hits harder than Pavlik easily, its not even close.
Kessler IMO is top 5 P4P in punch power.
18 of his 29 stoppages have been by clean knockout. Thats not TKO's that is clean cut lights out, spark out KO's.
Pavlik has the same amount of stoppages (29) and has 7 clean cut KO's.
Kesslers punch power is phenomanal.
Pacquiao has 10 big KO's in 35 stoppages.
Wlad has 16 in 44 stoppages.
Ponce De Leon has 12 in 30 stoppages
Pantera is the best ive seen with 20 in 26 stoppages.
Kessler hits harder than Pavlik you can take that to the bank.
This is not even remotely close to true.

Kessler doesn't hit much harder than Pavlik and vice versa. Their power IMO is both very strong and it's hard to compare. Pavlik to some people may look like the stronger puncher because he throws a lot more flush shots then Kessler, but when you really compare their strongest punches, it's very close.

what are u talking about, Pavlik hits MUCH MUCH harder.
DId u count the amount of times he hit ANDRADE flush???? Like a zillion, and Andrade didnt move. Sure, Andrade has an amazing chin, but when u hit a guy flush like that they are going to get knocked out, and andrade i believe won the 12th round?
Andrade has one of the best chins in boxing though, I don't even think a sledgehammer would knock the man out.

If Kessler doesn't hit harder than Pavlik, it's sure as hell close.
I agree and they're both naturally heavy handed guys and I for 1 would pay to see them fight. and in my opinion it would be a pick em and a exciting see saw battle. lets get it on:boxing::boxing:
Oh the Pavlik hype is building up now...
I can see it now.."Pavlik KO1 Calzaghe".
I already see the Jones or Pavlik will "KO him or take him to school" starting in many threads. Then when Joe beats either they will be "past their prime, weight drained, fighting out of their natural weight and got robbed since they were landing cleaner punches and Joe was landing slaps etc."
P4P I have to go with Pavlik, He has proven his power against better opposition. Kessler uses his work ecthnic to wears you down rather than KO power than Pavlik possess.
