i have been reading news about joan guzman and this guy trash talks alot. i dont know if the reporters are responsible for it or if he is really that frustrated that's why he is putting on a mayweather stunt. ok this guy is the champion but howcome he's never been in a big fight. the last fight that i saw him was with sotto. yeah sotto can't do shit because guzman was circling around the ring. the way guzman fought was like a copycat of mayweather's which fans nowadays doesn't want. he says he's been ducked by a lot of fighters. but is it really because he is good or is it because his style bore his opponents? now he gave up his 130 belt and is moving to 135 yet no fights. i dont know what his career will be but as of right now he is still a nobody.
I thought so too but according to a couple people in this thread Valero already said NO to guzman.
Stylistically, Guzman is a nightmare for Valero. Valero isn't an accurate puncher and wouldn't get any leather on Guzman.
I don't necessarily disagree w/you, I'm saying that's what he's doing. At 130 though I think he made the right decision to go up. There simply isn't anyone worthy of fighting.I say he can make a punching bag out of edwin valero, eh?
He already fought Barrios and Soto who are ranked top 10 in the division..
If those aren't significant wins I dunno what are..
They were good quality wins, but at that moment Guzman hadn't yet separated himself from the other champions in the division. I see him as more of a Pernell Whitaker type and for Guzman to get the respect he deserves he needs to stay in one place long enough to unify.
Unless he starts sitting down and turning over some power punches on these bigger guys he isn't going to get big money fights.
Here's a concept: Boxing is about more than getting one big payday. Sure, it was disheartening how Arthur stalled Guzman for a meaningless fight. Guzman had momentum going for him at 130, he could have established himself as a dominant champion there.
Why do I say that? Because Guzman ditching belts and moving up in weight doesn't do much for him when he's a general unknown without plausible marketability doesn't=Superfights.

And what segnificant opponent is there now that everyone has left?

I'm getting worried about him not staying active, he doesn't have a fight schedueled :(
He fought Soto on a year lay off... I'm not that worried because if he can shut Soto out even with the inactivity.
What's the point if he's moving up in weight without a reputation to precede him? What he needs to do is stay in a division long enough to fight a significant opponent, beat that guy, then start calling everyone out.

Everyone was saying Soto would whoop his ass after Barrios. IMO that proved that he deserves the right to a big fight. A lot of people forget that he was coming of a year lay off with the Soto fight and he didn't really run the whole fight.. Really that's not Guzman's style. If you have watch his previous fights you would know this. Anyway, Guzman's career is a victim of misfortune.. not being able to get fights, hand injuries and just bullshit like not being able to get a visa to fight Arthur. He will get his chance though, hopefully soon.
it's not really just pacquiao. he wanted to fight joan guzman but maybe the ppv sales wont be that good since guzman's performance with sotto was a bore. nobody wants a hyped up fight like maweathers then the action is dead.
there are other fighters who doesn't want to be with guzman because everyone is chasing the big fight and that is again pacquiao. valero denied the fight so did marquez. while nate campbell is chasing a bigger prize than guzman.
i dont see his career going to top.
Are you that Bobby Lee comedian from MadTV?
Well, I think that's exactly why he keeps going up. He's chasing the big names (Pacquaio, Marquez, etc.)

Because Arum is effin' scared to put Pacquiao in with him.
probably because he doesn't want a mayweather copycat who will bore the fans. but i dont know.
I wish Guzman would stay in one division and become a real force there. At 122 he wasn't making meaningful defenses of his belt. At 130 he was starting to make some noise. I was impressed by his win over Soto.
I think the reason Guzman doesn't hit as hard anymore is because he can't stay still and set himself for power against these bigger fighters. He's constantly on the move because he doesn't like getting hit by these bigger fighters.
If he's going to fight at 135, so be it. I hope he gets the big fights like Campbell, Diaz, Katsidis. I'm just not sure how far his legs can take him.
** OK, you live in a parallel universe.
In my universe Guzman claimed he couldn't get a visa in time. He got a visa in plenty of time to make the contracted date, something like 9 hrs later, and then announced he was waiting for the reschedule. Then something like a week later he announces he's moving up to the lightweight division.
You should go back to your universe and not bother us here with your nonsense. Guzman is fat and he's gonna outgrow the lightweight division before you can get Scotty to beam you back to this universe for more nonsense.
His mother got a tumor...he vacated it so he could spend time with her.
Nah, I paid very close attention to what was going on against Arthur/Warren and there was no reason whatsoever for the fight to be cancelled. Guzman was ready and they left him waiting without a word for two weeks and Guzman is stuck extending his training and staying at 130. So he said fuck it and left. And why blame him? Who the hell is left in the division? Not a single name worth fighting after Marquez and Pacman went up.
And Guzman hasn't canceled a fight due to weight. You have it wrong.

I'm kinda mad that he left 130. All of a sudden 130 except for Valero, but who knows he might move up, became a shit division.
You have Barrios, Juarez (maybe), Valero, and Soto at 130. When you lose guys like Pac, Marquez, Guzman, Barrera, and Morales (All these guys were in the same divsion 2 years ago. Pac, Marquez, and Guzman are now) your division takes a major hit.
