Warren Offers David Haye Big Payday To Fight Skelton

Promoter Frank Warren has offered David Haye a whopping £600,000 payday to fight Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Matt Skelton in the Autumn. Haye, the WBO/WBC/WBA Cruiserweight Champion, now intends to campaign in the heavyweight division and is looking at Hasim Rahman as his next opponent. Skelton took WBA World Champion Ruslan Chagaev the distance in January and is ranked above Rahman in the independent rankings.. But Warren believes that Haye should first prove himself to be the best in Britain by taking on Skelton, the number one ranked heavyweight in the country, before he looks overseas. He said: "This is a massive payday for Haye and a great opportunity to see if he is the real deal in the heavyweight division that he tells us he is. Skelton is the best in Britain and pushed Chagaev all the way in their world title fight. If Haye is serious about the heavyweight division he should fight Skelton first." Haye has already been knocked out by a 40-year-old in Carl Thompson and Skelton, who hits the big 4-0 shortly, is really up for the job. Skelton said: "I want the fight big time. It's a massive clash between Britain's biggest men. Haye wants to prove himself as a heavyweight so he should face the best and that's me. I know that I've got the power to knock him out."

Yeah but i have the idea that Haye knocks him out...the only reason I think that is Haye would knock out Williams and Sprott, who both hurt him at some point of their fight, Williams hurt him in both fights IMO, and Williams himself says that Haye will be the hardest puncher in the division after sparring with him.... lmao. haye will knock out these guys becuase danny williams says so. statement of the year

Haye wouldn't take this fight, What's the reward? He'd get more credit for beating a washed up Rahman then he would for a fat shite in Skelton. Frank Warren is about as good at match-ups then Cilla Black is in Blind Date. Slightly surprised you feel that way man, as a Haye fan. Do you not think Skelton is a tougher match than Rahman? He might get slightly more reputation in the US for beating Rahman but who gives a shit. He of all ppl doesn't need to pander to that shit when he's with Golden Boy which help no matter who he faces. Plus, Wlad is not the type to go with the yanky hype, he'll recognise he's beaten a better opponent in Skelton than Rahman and take Haye more seriously, not think? Ultimately that's what Haye's after.

Whether or not it's a good test for Haye or not is irrelevant, he and his promoters want to make him a superstar in the US and Skelton would do nothing to help that cause. Washed up or not, Rahman is still a recognizable name over here and knocking him out will help usher in his stardom in the US.

Like all Skelton fights, it would be tough, horrible, boring and ugly, which would make Haye look bad. If Haye won or at best even finished it early...it would mean literally nothing to an American audience and frankly at 600K its not even really for a huge pay-day either.

Haye would do well to steer clear of the Britsh HW scene and especially Frank Warren. He has the kudos from being the best CW in the world, now he needs to build some credibility in America.

This fight would seemingly be a waste of time. But.......Skelton would be an ideal test for Haye. A strong guy who can take a punch but with little power of his own. if Haye could knock out Skelton, that would be a great indicator of his HW power. Chagaev came nowhere near to stopping him.

Skeltons a bum, he's slow as hell. Warren is bitter that Haye dusted off Enzo. I remember at one point Warren said if Haye beat Macca he'd give up boxing. And look what happened. That said Skeltons a big dude, he's durable, he can hit, so it would be a risky fight but look at it this way; every fight at HW is a big risk for Haye due to his chin. He admits it, its a big factor in his excitement value. People know he can go at any time. But skills pay the bills, I think he'd be way too fast for Skelton, could go the distance though.

Frank Warren is a joke. I don't like much of what he does. He knows Skelton hasn't got too much left so he is really trying to squeeze him now. Haye won't be joining in with the British heavyweight "scene" any time soon. I think he's been pretty smart the way he's talking up his cruiser domination into him being a credible threat to the best HWs. That would all be over if he took on Skelton, Williams or Sprott and lost and no way is he going to take that chance. I wouldn't mind seeing him beat up Audley Harrison though.

Skelton is a bigger challenge for him than Rahman is at this point and he wants to build a US fanbase so I'm not sure if it'll happen.
