Stupid thread this is anyway. Joe Cortez may as well of said "good luck floyd give us the nod when you want me to break up the fight" when ricky fought floyd. But Joe Cortez didn't say that. Why does Cortez have to come into this? Why are people bringing Mayweather into this even? Jor Cortez and Floyd Mayweather were not present on May 24th. The fact is the referee wished a personal good luck to Ricky. I'm saying its unprofessional.

I thought one of the commentators was right on when he said hatton was like another ref. Hatton would make eye contact with him when he wanted him to break to the clinch and he seemed to do it every time Yeah i notice that too, he would look at the ref and the ref would know what he needs to do at that point.

He did say good luck lad but before that he said good luck to the both of ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah fine he said good luck to both of them. BUT THEN he says a personal good luck to Hatton. Thats a bit fucked up in my opinion.

I have the Versus broadcast downloaded, but they cut out the last few seconds of each round to show an advert. When the 8th round started, the commentators said that Lazcano had followed him back to his corner and said something, but they didn't show any footage. ah right, thanks man. Seems that moment wasn't caught on camera...I guess we may never know exactly what was going on there.

so cause cortez broke up the fighters during a clinch hes unprofessional? isn't that the refs job.he did the same thing in the hatton and calzaghe fights. he could have taken points in either but he didn't. he only took a point from hatton after he blatantly tried to maim mayweather. it's not like after calzaghe got knocked down he warned hopkins for hitting him too hard and gave calzaghe a minute rest to tie his shoe. that would be the brit ref style.

Its called hometown decisions , being going on since the dark ages anywhere there is competition of any kind ,, nothing American started about it , its human nature to favor your favorite , but it pure bias to say one wrong is ok while its close copy is damned , ahh but of course depending not whats right or wrong but who your personal favorite is . My point is about balance and that many Brits , not all, but many dont have any concerning Brit fighters , , Johney Rebel is a classic example in this thread . I'm not saying hometown decisions don't happen, I'm questioning why decisions that occur in Europe and basically anywhere other than America are treated with more scrutiny than those in the States. Your argument is essentially that any Brit who thinks Cortez was poor but Foster was okay is biased but why does that have to be the case? The two fights were completely different as were the decisions taken by the refs in them. If these are matters of opinion then it is a little codescending to say people can't hold these opinions without being biased.

Its got nothing to do with American myths , but an aweful lot to do with hypocritical Brits that are non objective concerning british fighters , thats not a myth its like tits on a bull and the whole world knows it . It has everything to do with American myths. Several American writers, both on websites and in credible publications, have for years talked about decisions and refereeing displays around the world in a derogatroy almost xenophobic way which has created a climate where it has become acceptable to call refs and judges from other countries biased and even to go as far as to accuse them of cheating when there is no sound evidence.

This is all stems from the myth perpetuated by Americans that all referees from everywhere else in the world are essentially cheats. Joe Cortrez's refereeing of Hatton/Floyd and Calzaghe/Hopkins was the epitome of unprofessional. The referee showed no obvious bias last night and had no effect on Ricky's impressive victory. Buahaha...What a Brit. Still can't see it even when it's right in front of your face.

It's just before the fight. Referee asks both fighters to touch gloves. Refree then looks at Hatton and says 'Good luck, lad'. Not good look gentlemen, but good luck lad...a singular. lol, kball do u remember at end of round 7 i think, Lazcano followed Hatton to his corner and something happened. Did it come through on U.S coverage? I think the idiots on Euro coverage were too busy talking crap and didn't bother getting a replay of it :(
