It seems many fans are convinced Ricky Hatton was very possibly "saved" from a KO defeat in his fight with Juan Lazcano last night. Indeed, this writer has been criticised for not mentioning in more detail the incident in question that occurred in round number ten. I must admit, I saw nothing untoward in the 10th session of last night's entertaining fight, nor did the ultra-experienced commentary team calling the fight in Britain (including former world champ Jim Watt) mention anything suggesting the existence of unfair play by referee Howard Foster..
But for those fans that feel Hatton was purposely given time to recover by the ref after he'd taken two good lefts hooks from the battered but still brave Lazcano in the 10th round, I look at the round in more detail here.
Ricky was on top of the round pretty much right through, until the incredibly tough Lazcano came back with two nice left hooks to Hatton's chin. Hatton was hurt, no doubt, but on the verge of going over? I don't think so. As a matter of fact, I feel Hatton was more hurt in the 8th round, when he was also caught by Juan's left hand. Still, some fans believe Lazcano was halted in his progress by a biased third man in the ring. After looking at the round in question in close detail I cannot agree.
Yes, Lazcano landed two good shots, but Hatton was never on "queer street." He immediately knew he had to hold and did so. This was not a case where a fighter's legs turned to jelly. As for the time-out called by referee Foster. It should be noted that Foster had also called a time-out BEFORE the incident we are talking about here. Unhappy with the roughness of the round, Foster called a time-out. That he did so again after Hatton had taken two good shots does not mean he is a corrupt official - far from it. Foster actually let at least ten or twelve seconds go by after Lazcano's good shots had landed before he halted the action to warn the 33-year-old for pulling Hatton down. At this point, Hatton looked in no way like a fighter who was "out on his feet."
Then, seemingly unaware of the loose lace on Hatton's boot, Foster was about to let the action continue. Only when Hatton signalled there was a problem with his lace did the referee prevent the action from going on. At this point, Lazcano almost staggered across the ring. If anything, the following break in the round did him more good than it did Hatton.
No, I'm sorry, there was nothing sinister going on in round number ten last night. And if anyone knew how good a referee Howard Foster is, no such offensive fingers would be pointed at him. Indeed, if he reads some of the comments left on the internet, Foster will be greatly angered.
There have been controversial time-outs in boxing in the past. Occasions where a fighter HAS been helped by a less than fair official. Last night's Hatton-Lazcano fight featured no such incident
** Don't know what the problem is with some of you chaps other than you don't know the first thing about boxing and emote like teenage girls.
Cortez was an embarrassment. This ref allowed them to clinch and infight and break themselves mostly. Lazcano actually did better in the clinches, when he wasn't hurt, speaking of which, the ref stopped the action on a few occasions when he was hurt to warn him about holding which saved him from Hatton breaking away and maybe getting the KO.
The alleged hurt Hatton period comes after Lazcano looks ready to go after terrible punishment. Instead of crediting Lazcano putting together a magnificient stand at the gates of Hell that did rock Hatton, you chaps, WHERES BLACK JES WHO STARTED THIS MALARKEY, you dear chaps act like Hatton was done in.
Going to the corner after the ref breaks for Laz pulling him down and hitting, a regular break practiced a dozen times every week by refs across this country, Hatton does a little stumble as he steps on the loose lace. He looks down and starts holding his boot up, a legit equipment fix.
Hatton's style precludes a masterclass performance description, but he completely dominates and has Lazcano out on his feet a half dozen times or more in the bout. All credit to Juan for a truly brave performance he could have pulled the plug on several times with nobody the wiser.
Much ado over nothing but for a few dolts who are probably anarchists breaking windows and burning cars when they ain't creating mountains out of molehills.
The bigger disgrace was Paulie and N'dou. Paulie looks and hits like a girl, and N'dou looks like Tarzan and fights like Jane.
Boxing needs more Hattons and Lazcanos willing to scrap. Let the Black Jes go stare at statues of boxers in the park since they like posers.
Love him, or hate him Hatton attracts more fans than Floydy does in the USA.
good post..........
Stop the bullshit! Hatton was hurt and the ref saved him! he did what he had to do to make sure those 50,000 plus went home happy! Matthew Hatton had lost earlier, could you imagine that place if Ricky would have got stopped?!? give me a break, the ref cheated and everybody who saw the fight saw it! Shame on the ref!
Not many people really care about Matthew Hatton.

When one guy is being held, low blowed, hit behind the head or headbutted it's normal for them to look at the referee. The fighter is making it clear to the referee that he's the one being fouled, happens all the time and there's really nothing suspicious about it.
Besides which I thought that Ricky "lol the hugman lol" Hatton would be disadvantaged by breaks, so your theory is in complete contradiction to Hatton's reputation.
not theory observation, please be objective youve been on here long enough and seen plenty of boxing to know that the referee was biased towards Hatton. I've seen worse but it was obvious. Another good example was Cortez favoring of Mayweather in the Hatton fight. That don't make it right tho. a duck is a duck you know?
can't believe this biased referee! i could not believe what was happening..
these english refs are as biased as anything
robbery!
hatton might have well been stoppped!!!
ANOTHER case of bias in the uk!
i don't know if it saved hatton from defeat, but it did save him from getting knocked down and embarrassed in front of his hometown crowd.
lazcano really wasn't letting his hands go enough during the fighg, maybe the long layoff, maybe he was intimidated in front of the crowd, who knows, all i do know is that lazcano had many opportunities in the fight and didn't take any of them.
first of all, his punch out put was nil compared to what it normally is.
second, the right hand was there to hit hatton clean all night long. either lead right hand, jab right hand, double jab right hand, it was there all night to land clean on hatton and lazcano didn't even attempt to throw it but once or twice.
third, the left hook was there, and lazcano threw it, but that is all he threw so hatton knew it was coming, and even when he got hit by it, he knew that was all that was coming. the left hook did damage, but imagine had lazcao put together some combos with is, instead of his shoe shining and his hands in his pockets.....
the ref calling time out was a joke, but it wouldn't have changed anything really, if it wasn't the shoe, it was going to be a mouth piece, or it was going to be tape on the glove coming loose, etc, get the picture. it was to keep hatton from getting embarrassed, hatton could've gotten knocked down 5 times in that fight and probably still won.
i thought hatton did a good job, a bit sloppy, as i said before, i thought his balance and defense were shite and i did say and still will say that i think hatton should look at getting another trainer, someine who can help him detail some things that graham isnt doing, also, giving some freshness to his game, after being with someone for so long things kind of get overlooked. it's like having the same workout over and over again, after a while it's not going to be as effective as it once was in the beggining, you have to mix it up to keep things fresh and help grow. hatton might train like a mad man and get into great shape but if it's the same old thing over and over again, it's going to not be as effective. its like eating the same meal everyday, you need a change after a while or otherwise the food isnt going to be satisfying anymore and would probably lead to poor performance......
Look at the video a couple of pages back, Lazcano is cleary pushing Hattons head down. What do you want the ref to do just stand and do nothing? After the ref gave Lazcano the warning he was willing to let the fight continue until Hatton brought the lace to his attention. should the ref let the fight start again while Hatton's lace is undone? Hatton may have been hurt but he was'nt close to getting KOed. Just watch the video

Mate what is their to prove , we all saw Cortez and we all saw Foster and both were not good and have nothing on each other , and we all saw you damning of Cortez and your praising Foster , the proof is right there in you being a sore loser and a hypocritical winner , your a typical one eyed Brit , thats it in a nutshell and their are no second prizes .

see u could'nt prove anything accept your hater :owned:
I'm just happy I get noticed.
Cortez was one sided. Foster was not. Foster was adequate as a referee, but it wasn't as though it was a fiery encounter that needed prominent officiating.
Hatton doled out ten rounds of one-sided beating but predictably you have seen an opportunity to grasp a perceived controversy to try and sully the whole performance. Hatton got hit too much and twice was hurt, but ultimately it was of no consequence.
Of course you are still sore that Hatton beat Tszyu, so it would be a stretch to expect objectivity from you. I'm a fan of Hatton so I'm not going to be the most objective poster about his fights, but at least I have the cojones to admit it. Bruce.
only an idiot or a hater would compare Fosters performance to Cortez's LMAO
its like saying Nigel Benn is as bad at Rabbit punching as Sam Peter
Rewatching that moment Hatton looked a lot less hurt this time and he was being pushed down. The ref may have made a meal out of the warning but I still think that the shoelace thing was incidental. Hatton looked OK going back to the corner.
infact it is Lazcano who looks on unsteady legs when he is told to go the neutral corner i have the fight on my computer now so Rodbarker cant test
What is your point because I fail to see it , are you rubbing Cortez and proping Foster , are you bagging Lazcano what is it your trying to say as you one of the biggest double standard guys on the board .

The argument is simple , you poms whinge about Cortez and praise Foster , your sore losers and hypocritical winners , that is my point and on that point your knocked out !
but u have shown that u can get your claims to stack up so how is that showing Fosters refereeing was of the standard of Cortez
u have to prove that 1st which u have 'nt been able to do ,before u can start calling double standards regarding Cortez
the only person whingeing is u dude ,u must be getting bitter and stubborn in your old age LMAO
Here it is, the moment comes 5:25 in this vid.
Fortunately Ricky wasn't near a turnbuckle this time!

A lot older than you mate , and Im not a biased fan like you either ,, you need to cry a river somewhere else as I know what Hatton is and you wont convince me he is any better than what I think he is .
By the way that video is not the same as the Versus telecast , different angles ,, all said and done Hatton won fairly and he showed again why he was knocked out by Floyd .
well listen Grandad i have put foward legit arguements that u cant dispute so i dont see why im biased ,the fact that u aint put up an argument in this post says im right otherwise your petulant dumbass would still be going on about it now get over Hater
The truth is Hatton was hurt and clinging on for dear life. I know, I know he holds every second of every fight, but he was holding WITHOUT hitting, which is highly unusual for him. He was hurt and got a lucky break.
Yeah right ,, have a close look at when you say Juan is pulling his head down , and tell me where Rickys hand is and how come he is holding Juan legs if he is trying to come up , Hatton is a short guy and in every fight he is underneath the taller guy , you can clearly see Ricky is hold Juans leg here .
lol how old are u 12
Hatton was holding his legs to stop himself falling flat on his face cause Lazcano was pushing his head down to the floor :nonono:
u should take a look how shaky Lazacano's legs are when he is asked to go to the neutral corner
