first off, that that was the best boxing after dark I've ever seen,i was impressed by all the fighters.they all stepped up,they're weren't any cans at these fights.angulo looks officialkirkland is a bit like a tyson hagler hybrid to me,he's official aswell.as i watched the gamboa fight i heard a comparison between he and hamed, and when i thought of jimenez i thought of his orthodoxy and barrera.obviously he's not the legend barrera is,but its clear a that a fighter with greater orthodoxy could be a problem.i think it was a great situation for gamboa to reevaluate his gameplan as he marches towards a championship.i think if hefinds someone who could teach him that peekaboo style ala tyson/patterson/torres he could be even better.nonetheless,i think he's special aswell.
are you honestly saying a prospect is better than Naz?
No, I am not. I think Gamboa is coming along as a prospect. What he will become is what he'll become.
To say that Naz was some supreme fighting machine that Gamboa could never reach is something else. I just think it's funny that American Naz fans seem to be more grounded than British Naz fans. No offense.
For the record, I am a Naz fan.
I agree...but a good promotional company doesn't hurt a defected Cuban boxer trying to make money. Mario Mesa is even more accomplished than Gamboa...he beat Amir Khan for Gold Medal at the last Olympics.
It was Kindelan who beat Khan.
Superb fighter.
I think Hamed had more 1 punch power, while i think Gamboa has better speed. It will be fun to watch all 3 of these guys though. 154 needed some fresh blood for sure that division has been shitty for a while.
Gamboa will learn from this fight, he'll learn that not all the fighters that go in there with him from now on are gonna be easy to beat, I think he'll be better prepared with his fundamentals (hands up, chin down) next time, cuz this isn't the amteurs when you wear a head gear he gotta learn that he's in the pros now.
It was a very good card. I've been impressed by Kirkland since the Duran fight. He is a bull in there. Angulo reminds me a lot of a more technically sound Margarito. He impressed me the most. I thought after 12 fights, stepping up against a solid guy in Gutierrez would be too much.
Gamboa is just so careless it kind of bothers me. He just wont be able to do that against better fighters period. I dont even remember Hamed being that careless in the ring. Other than that, yeah his speed and reflexes are outstanding and he has everything it takes to be a superstar.
same shit i thought about angulo.same jab.

Look out for a Cuban Heavyweight to start making noise...Gamboa is only 1 part of the Cuban hitlist(defectors). And to be honest, his name is cool sounding, but he is not the best Cuban I ever saw fight on t.v. Stevenson was smooth, Savon was calculating and athletic, Casamajor was just phenomenal(1992 champion, same Olympics as de la Hoya).
