I also worry about his hands being low. I feel a good fighter with power would take advantage of that. A guy like Jorge Linares. Im thinking it's something that can be learned, but he had over 400 amatuer fights and it makes you wonder if it's something that's going to be hard for him to do since he's fought this way so many times before.
Gamboa is a typical Cuban fighter...gifted but after years as amateurs, they have perfected the amateur style to the point where they show up flaws as pros. Just about every amateur Cuban boxer fights like that... though not as arrogant as Gamboa. Casamajor was brilliant as an amateur...the best I ever saw...he was like a Pernell Whittaker and both adapted well as pros. Gamboa fights like Naseem Hamed and we all know what happened to him when he faced a seasoned pro(Barrera). There was another Cuban fighter called Mario Mesa...who was even more accomplished than Gamboa. This guy beat up Amir Khan a bunch of times and then retired. In fact, Khan lost to him for the Gold medal, and got silver instead. Cuba is the best at amateur boxing, last time they got 9 medals in boxing (there is like 12 divisions) U.S.A. got zero medals...they suck.
he needs to work on the basics.when guys are as gifted as he is they're like fuck that.unless he wants to be a statistic,he needs to work on the basic shit.
honestly, i think this is the stigma that Gamboa will be stuck with for most of his career. Gamboa will be fine, he'll put the hands up when his team feels it necessary. Which at the pace, his career is going will be soon.
leaving his hands low as u can see in this vid he shows his gd chin ,power and speed but! his hands ar low he gets tagged a few times.
I'm sure that problem will be rectified as he gains more experiance.
He would be Amazing if floyd mayweather sr trained him.
