I thought the very same thing while watching the fight. Should i be concerned about his chin? He was knocked down by a much smaller man who is not a big puncher. Gamboa already knows that he needs to keep his hands up, he said that in an interview. He's also with Arena promotion which is a german(turkish) promoter they have a lot of fighters with the typical german turtle defense and trainers for that, althought his own trainer isn't like that.

Gamboa is a great looking fighter, good movement, good power lightning and unearthly quick reflexes but if he were matched with someone like Mayweather sr he could be insanely good. Even with all of this he will need to be shown how to best use it to become world class against the level of opposition in and around the lightweight division. Why would a fighter who has accomplished so much as an amateur and is now a successfull up and coming professional hire a trainer like Floyd senior so he can claim all the credit for his success in the future. I would agree with you. From what I saw tonight either Mayweather would seem to be a natural fit to train a fighter with the type of style and ability Gamboa has. However, if he doesn't get his hands up forget it. NO trainer will be able to prevent him from getting plowed ..... exactly why he needs a high caliber trainer.
