I just made a topic giving logical reasons why he would beat Hopkins Prime 4 Prime and all I get is a ton of bull shit replies calling me biased etc.
Some people gave decent answers but even then they stretched the truth (Hopkins has faster hands than Joe).
Joe Calzaghe is EASILY in the category of Toney, Hopkins and Roy and I think he is better than them, bar Roy.
Hopkins has never impressed me that much in his prime (and yes, I've watched his fight vs Johnson). He looked ruthless but Johnson hadn't fought anyone at the time and was coming in off a loss over Omar Shieka FFS (Calzaghe destroyed him in 5). Johnson only got good late in his career.
This is the sort of thing I mean.
"Calslappy" is an insult already.
Please. Weren't you one of the people calling Hopkins "Borehard" or "Slopkins" or "Popkins" and posting bouts in his resume followed by laughing smilies? Talk about the pot callin the kettle black.
Yes, he did look great against Kessler..I knew he would and predicted he would win 116-112 since his style would be too much for Kessler being that he's a limited fighter. In the very next fight Hopkins made Calzaghe look ordinary so what does that tell you about the level of opposition? It was a good win, it wasn't a great win.
I think the evidence would point to Hopkins, Toney, and without question Jones beating Calzaghe in their primes. I've never suggested that it would be an easy fight for any of them, though.
I understand your position. The question I ask is whether anyone else could do to kessler what Joe did? Prime Jones probably, but not Hopkins or Toney.
As for Joe v B-Hop, as has been said many times before, B-Hop will make anyone look bad. I really think that if Calzaghe is still anything close to the fighter he was in the Lacy/ Kessler era then he will own the fuck out of whoever he fights next, be that RJJ, Tarver or Pavlik and then people will start to see what I'm talking about.
It's not really saying as much as you think. Calzaghe is a fighter out of the very top drawer, I really wish that some of those who go in for looking at their favourite fighters game in a technical way would extend the same courtesy to Calzaghe for some of the fights he's had in his career. Against Kessler he was little short of amazing both offensively and defensively.
Hopkins, Jones and Toney have all lost to inferior fighters than Calzaghe so is it really so crazy to think that he could beat them. I think its crazier to think that he couldn't.

You're absolutely right, Ricky!
But they only discredit him because of jealousy and hate, not because of anything he's done or failed to do!
If he defeated Jones, Dawson, Taylor, Erdei, Tarver, Pavlik, Froch, Miranda and Bute in the next year, they would still say "he hasn't fought anybody"...
Like the old song goes "that's just the way it is...some things will never change".
What's really important is that we, his fans know what a great fighter he is!
Too right brother.
I think it's because of his skin colour. When you look at Hopkins... Jones... Toney... Calzaghe... - Uh oh!
you continue to spam and flood the forums with calzaghe threads.. like i said, you become harder and harder to become credible b/c all you do is post about calzaghe.. you offer no other knowledge or standpoint on other fighters.. stop cheerleading.. the forum was better without you
Are you talking to me?
Hopkins made Calzaghe look like a fool? Please, spare us your bullshit.
please watch the gif in natas' signature. if you don't think he looks like a damn fool then you are the fool.

I don't really see anyone not giving him credit. Most of the same people included myself who argue about Calzaghe's accomplishments or what he was capable of in his prime have him ranked in their current top 5 P4P, most in the 2-3 position. However, I and many others feel he is being overcredited with such claims that he could easily beat Hopkins in his prime or even Jones. That's saying A LOT.

You've got to be kidding
The sad thing is, he isn't.
I've never called Calzaghe, "Slappy", or any other derogatory term. I respect him as fighter.
I have no beef with Zags. Shit I really don't have a beef with you, thread starter.
Your pretty funny, actually. I mean, by the thread title alone, you would have thought somebody had slapped Calzaghe's mom, or something....

johnson was undefeated when he fought hopkins. and didn't you see the fight where a 43 year old hopkins made calzaghe look like a fool and calzaghe posed no problems for hopkins cept for making him laugh with his windmill impersonation which was spot on. 2 thumbs up! on the other hand hopkins posed huge problems for calzaghe cause everytime he threw he landed and shook him and knocked him down once and almost a second time but the round ended. imagine if hopkins had thrown more punches like he did in his prime. calzaghe isnt better cause he ko'd sheika im so sorry.

Look it's easy to call other people on this forum biased but number one, you are Welsh and number two, you have admitted that you started watching boxing because of Joe Calzaghe.
Couldn't you be a little biased yourself when it comes to Calzaghe?
I'm not saying you are the only biased fan in these forums, I've argued with Americans who think that Calzaghe couldn't shine a prime Jones' boots despite all his achievements.
I have also argued with Brits who believe that Calzaghe would KO a prime Roy Jones and would win a shutout over a prime James Toney.
It seems you take this a little too personally. Joe doesn't know you exist bro. I for one KNOW he is a great fighter but haters will be haters, deal with it. Plus some of the nuthuggery you show doesn't help your cause.
I actually know Joe and talk to him on a regular basis :owned:
He isn't some flashy celebrity, he is grounded and just one of the guys.
