George knocks out Byrd in 9th!!!!

Byrd looked horrible.

When the ref waved Byrd out, he leant over and said to him "I'm sorry, I think you trained too hard". George was pretty mouthy after wards eh, I agree, Calzaghe, RJJ, Hops, Tarver, Dawson, Johnson and even Dawson whom I rate bottom of those names, would have exposed Byrd more, and would beat George comfortably.

if you say so, I thought most of what he lost was just excess weight. maybe hes just lying, but he said he could have made 168 easily. regardless, I would prefer if his career was over. He has no business fighting at heavy, light heavy, or cruiserweight. I didnt like the look of those knockdowns, and its pretty clear he is shot. Byrd will have trouble getting a boxing license in Nevada again.

Although he's been at 175 for six weeks, before that the weight came down rather quickly. He wasn't overweight-looking when he fought Povetkin in October, in fact he looked trim and fit, so it wasn't just fat he lost, it was muscle. 30 to 40 pounds is a lot to lose when you're age 37, especially if you've been at the higher weight for about 15 years. Yes, it was good to see that Shaun was realistic about his status. This fight will definitely open doors for him, but it doesn't shoot him into a superfight with Calzaghe or Roy Jones. I'd love to see that protected German stiff Erdei give him a shot. People need to realize that this is only his 17th win. He's looked great in spots and tonight he put it all together. If he stays active, he can make his stake as one of the upper light heavys and I think he's due for an HBO date.

Byrd lost the weight too fast, and lost too much muscle. And he appeared more weight-drained than boxer I've ever seen. He perhaps should have just come down to 198 and tried fighting at cruiserweight. He's a natural cruiser, not a light heavyweight. Byrd didnt lose the weight too fast, he had been at that weight for 6 weeks before this fight. I think it had to do less with him losing the weight, and more of him just being old and shopworn. plus, he tryed to fight at Light Heavy the way he fought at heavy...which just didnt work out.

Tonight was not a fun night of boxing for me. I hate seeing such a nice guy go out like that. Some guys just dont know when to quit. I wasnt impressed with George. This was not the Byrd we all know that he was fighting. Byrd was 3 times slower than he was at heavyweight, he looked past just being drained. Even hearing him talk you could tell in his voice he sounded weak, like someone starving. I wont lie, I had hopes that Byrd would look faster and actually have some power and do well at LHW. I would like to see such a nice guy do well. But this was just the wrong move. Now that I look back on it. A guy that is 37, coming off some knockout losses to huge punchers, draining weight to go down TWO weight classes in less than a year. I guess he just wanted to prove he could do it, but I dont think anyone could it and succeed. I dont even think he should have went down to cruiserweight, he should have just retired. I havent watched Byrd in years because I always thought his fights were somewhat boring. The last time I watched him fight was most likely on tuesday night fights on USA or friday night fights a long time ago. This looked nothing like the Byrd I knew.

That sucked to watch. Byrde was so slow, and so weak that he didnt even look like he was fighting back. He needs to reitre before he gets hurt longterm. He couldnt avoid that right hand for anything.

in 3 years youll be looking back and seeing how clueless you were Scott9945 is completely right, it was no more than a showcase for Shaun George against a tired old man. I'm sure you are more impressed than me. I'm not saying George is a bad fighter but there's no way we can call him the next great LHW based on this fight. Lets see him go against a proven top light heavyweight to see how good he really is... He did call out Glen Johnson, now that would be a good fight. How often do you see someone call out Glen Johnson!

He isn't the next great lightheavyweight. He had nothing in front of him in that fight. He had a punching bag infront of him who has been in so many heavy weight wars, and taken alot of punishment to his head... HAHAHAHA, George is so good!!! LoL /sarcasm
