Everytime I think of Byrd I remember the left hand Ike Ibeabuchi landed in the 5th of their fight. Sounded like a gun going off, don't know how Byrd got up from that.
dont know luck i guess

Byrd dropped too much weight, too fast, too late in his career. I think his reflexes will be dull and he'll lose handily if George is able to let go with the punches.
Shaun George, probably by decision. George is coming to fight the fight of his life. He's had enough time to condition himself and has been sparring with southpaws like Vasiliy Jirov and Antonio Tarver. If that doesn't prepare you for southpaws, nothing will.
Byrd is going to try and back George up like he did at heavyweight. The only difference is that George has quicker hands and decent punching power. George is going to fight a young man's fight, I'm not sure Byrd can.
It's like Teddy Atlas said Wednesday night, don't be fooled by his physique, this is still the same guy who has been knocked out in 2 of his last 3 fights. Byrd has been getting hit a lot lately, and he'll be hit by a much quicker guy in Shaun George.
Even Evander Holyfield still shows up in great shape. You can't erase damage, though. Once the fight is beaten out of you, it's gone forever.
thats why i think he gets stop late i could be wrong but it just what i think
Right. Of course it's an old truth in boxing that with age the first thing that goes is punch-resistance. Question is if the weight loss has affected Byrd or that he's gone old overnight. It has happened before.
i think it more like SinatraFan said the pushment he took in his last 2 fights so it could be his age dont think the weight will have anything to do with it IMO
I'm not so convinced that Chris Byrd is at his best at light-heavy as he keeps claiming.
I think the guy is shot, washed up and past his prime and thought if came down to light-heavy it would make headlines so he can get a few more paydays.
He barely got any fights when he was the IBF heavyweight champion only fighting once a year so imagine how tough it would have been after losing to Alexander Povetkin.
This was the only move he could play to keep going. With that said, I expect for Byrd to either win or lose a split decision being more defensive then offensive.

Good post. You're right about Byrd being stopped. But it was by heavyweights and he did take some blockbusters before the stoppage. I think his chin will be fine.

IMO Byrd should win this easy. Only ? is how effective he'll be especially in the later rounds at this weight. The fact that this fight's only a 10-rounder should suit him fine.
The difference in level of opposition of these 2 is like an ocean. Byrd has fought some excellent HW's, while George hasn't fought anyone noteworthy. But it's a huge chance for George. Beating Byrd should elevate him in the rankings as well as in the public eye. So George oughtta come to fight in the shape of his life.
Byrd has shown some great determination too in coming down from 200+. I like Byrd who's an excellent skilled fighter who can take a big shot as proven in his fight with Povetkin (before being stopped that is).
I got Byrd by clear UD.
