i have always been interested to see if calzaghe has always been a slapper like he is now, so i got online and ordered his career set through a guy online. im a fan of joe c's , but have only seen the fights of him between kessler and hopkins live, thats it... anyways, i have heard joe c has chronic hand problems and always wondered if it was true.. well, i think it is because joe c in the fights i have been watching that i ordered is a much straighter puncher with alot more power. i can see where alot of those knockouts came from earlier in his career.. anyways, so if he does have hand problems which he must have then i understand the slapping deal now.. but hey he still wins fights so i guess he just bitch slappes people now.. just wanted yall to know who think joe has never had any power, all them knockouts he has didnt just appear there. i know most of you hardcore calzaghe fans already know about this..
Joe used to punch harder. I don;t think he was ever a KO monstor, well he was in the company he was mixing in. But if he had been fighting top guys i doubt he woulda been knocking them shitless or anything.
i suggest you get hopkins career on dvd set as well..
prime 99-01 would make calzaghe look stupid..
hell, an old as hopkins did.. calzaghe didnt land a meaningful punch that whole fight.. 5 clean punches landed for calzaghe..
hopkins refuses to throw so its his own fault he lost..
prime bhop was a hunter searching and killing his prey..
Dude, compare on more than one level would you, the pictures a lot wider.
Calzaghe prefers a fighter coming forwards, watch some or more of his fights before patronising others to watch more of Hops.
Hops best wins came post 40, lose the old stuff. That was his best chance, his experience, defence and countering was the best than is was in his prime, those were his best weapons on Calzaghe. Without them, Calzaghe wins easier.
On hands, it's pretty telling people are only just starting to realise or accept his hands are brittle, and often break in fights. Nigel Benn spent years trying to knock Eubank down and never did I'm pretty sure. Then Calzaghe does in the first round? And that's a coincidence. Ok then, just to further ruin that, Eubank himself said Calzaghe was punching hard, infact some comments were stronger than that.
And the bums excuse is pathetic, even if they weren't at or near that level (most were, and were close against others) they didn't all have weak chins. Mitchel through his hardest shot, his words. Joe got straight up then got knocked him out in the same round. Thats just one older fight example. Joe knew he didn't need to use all his power vs Lacy even later when he had by then broken his hands a number of times, as he was clearly going to win. Yet he knocked Lacy down a few times, had him on the ropes, confused him, ruined his face. Clearly not soft or slaps.
It's such a shame his hands are ruined now but the fact is the are. To win without the KO power he once had, is testament to his true boxing ability.
watch hopkins vs glen johnson
and hopkins vs echols I and II
get back to me.. let me know if he impressed you, seriously..
ricky, listen man, your a cheerleader.. prime for prime, bhop threw tons of punches. he wore his opponents down.. im not bhop lover but in his prime he was great.. the only reason why he lost that fight is because he didnt throw shit.. but when he threw he landed..
His hands are broken now but he still has some of his punching power is still there, if he didn't punch hard at all then he wouldn't have a big ass dude like jeff lacy and even kessler was on the ropes against calzaghe. I don't remember a fight of calzaghes where he was the one on the ropes. :boxing:
Well, here you have it at the start of the vid and Calzaghe looks brilliant fighting off the ropes.
Lol at Queensdawg.
You think Calzaghe was in his prime against Hopkins too?
Out of prime Calzaghe beat out of prime Hopkins. Prime Calzaghe beats Hopkins by a similar margain.
He may have had more power, but I think calling him a power puncher as some seem to think is a stretch. He got most of his KO's earlier in his career against weak competition and from what I can tell he never had any spectacular KO's where he cold-cocked a guy with a single shot.
he used to have ALOT of pwoer in his straight left, he was no hearns but he had his fair share of one punch KO's
oh its no big deal man... no , never ever said he was a notch above rjj or hopkins, but it think a prime calzaghe could still beat a prime hopkins and even if not, you have to admit joe c is a much more entertaining guy to watch than hopkins.. well to me he is, everyone has there own opinions.. dont get me wrong hopkins is very skilled but people dont pay to see guys throw 10 punches a round and good defense ya feel me?

well, like i said i have only watched 3 fights, the one i saw was a clean one shot knockout. yeah the ref did stop it and the guy wasnt totally knocked out.. i see what your saying, but i cant tell you honestly cause i havent watched many of the fights yet that i ordered
No problem, I don't mean to sound like I'm attacking you. I just hear people talk about Calzaghe's prime power like he was a step above RJJ and Hopkins even more so.

yeah man, i have his career set on dvd, and have watched 3 fights of his out of alot and i have already seen him knock a guy out with one punch, so your wrong.. btw, his fight with charles brewer was awesome, action packed
Not all one punch KO's are equal. I'm talking about KNOCKING SOMEONE THE FUCK OUT (see Hearns or more recently what Miranda did to Banks), not just putting someone on their ass and having the ref stop the fight. Has he done this and if so, who were the opponents?
