I think Cotto punches harder then Margarito, and that Margarito ko'd the crap chin of Cintron and dominck golden or whatever the hell his name is because there chin sucks. Margarito has nice combos but I don't think he is stronger then Cotto, and I think Cotto's resume craps on Margarito's no offense Marg fans. This is my opinion, so don't take offense you can have you opinions about cotto and say shit like he has a weak chin*which personally in my opinion I think cottos chin is fine*
Outclassed or overpowered? When you destroy a guy inside a round it has nothing to do with class.
Cintron has a good chin. I think it's fair to say so don't you?
Margarito is not a one punch KO fighter. He's a three or four, eight or ten KO puncher. Cotto is a three hundred shots to your solar plexus, back, and sides KO puncher - basically NOT AT ALL.
Agreed but for Tony to land those 10 KO punches he probably has to fire off like 100 due to poor handspeed and accuracy. If he had something resembling PBF handspeed his fights wouldn't last more than 3 rounds at most.
His lack of boxing fundamentals is more a testament to his poor excuse for an amateur career rather than a lack of ring intelligence. His apparent lack of foot and handspeed is his biggest shortcoming but fortunately he has enough other attributes to offset his disadvantages. No one that plans on squaring up and going toe to toe with Margarito will avoid a trip to the canvas.
Oh, and Cintron has a really good chin as can be seen in his fight with murderous puncher Teddy Reid. Cintron's own lack of defense is evidence of this as anything less in the chin department and he would have been down dropped hard already.
So knocking out a totally outclassed opponent like Johnson is power. Cintron stayed down because he didn't want anymore just like Quintana. And Judah wasn't a KO because the referee saved him from what would've been a devastating KO. He was out on his feet.
Margarito is far from a one punch KO fighter, it took him hundreds of shots to KO Cintron. Neither guy is a one punch KO, they both hit hard and wear people down. I give the edge to Cotto.
And to the fool that said something about Trinidad. Trinidad was a true one punch KO artist he has far more concusive power than either Margo or Cotto.

I hope you are not talking about me... because that's exactly what I said. He has more punching power, definitely. Stronger than Cotto or Margarito? No. He knows how to punch for power, knows how to use his long body.
It's like you using a bigger wrench to open something. Maybe you couldn't open it with the smaller wrench, but with the longer one, it's very easy. You are not stronger, the longer wrench multiplied your power.
That's Trinidad power.
I agree. Where he lands the punches, how cleanly he lands them, and how continuously he does it. I do think he's incredibly strong, but his compact frame doesn't translate that muscular strength into punching power, where physically weaker fighters like Trinidad, with their long body and arms, and proper technique, multiply their power and become killer KO guys.
But regarding Margarito, I really don't see him as a one punch KO guy, either.
Good post, I agree.
What a heaping pile of crap that is. ^ You said it right there. Judah? Quintana? Those are not KNOCKOUTS, dude. This is about POWER. POWER.

Then what you're suggesting is that where Cotto strikes has more to do with his results and less to do with power - and I agree with that.
Cotto doesn't have significant punching power but where he punches has everything to do with his results. Everything.

EDIT - But his uppercut is pretty good.
If you Don't even know who your talking about how can you judge their chin or skill??? straight words of a Cotto nuthugger/margarito hater
Well, I think you're quite biased but no on purpose. I'm like 99.9 percent sure your mexican, I'm not puertorican. So, I'm not looking at this fight as puerto ricans vs Mexicans, because I'm neither. lol
Margarito doesn't use his height in order to increment his punching power. He's a tall WW who fights small and constantly gives up his height. Also he throws some almost-arm-punches from far away.
Sometimes I think he doesn't knows how to fight tall.
I agree, Margarito is all over the place at times and his shots don't look like they should carry any payload - but they do knock people TFO. With that in mind I would say Margarito has rather significant punching power when he calms down enough to connect with a proper shot - it's over. :dead1:

A long time ago I shared some of your views. Back in the day when Cotto wasn't famous and he fought in Puerto Rico for small money. Back then I thought "wtf are these people talking about", and if you talk about one punch power, I will still say that Cotto is not the hardest puncher ever (neither is Margarito). However, he can KO guys that other one punch KO artist can't, because Cotto can break down people, and a guy with a good chin can be broken down by effective, continuous, hard blows all round. If his chin doesn't let go, his body or his mind will.
Regarding the topic, I do think Cotto even has better one punch power than Margarito. But let's wait and see.

The fanboys don't realize that Cotto doesn't have any true one punch knockout power. Now that he's in a higher weightclass his power has further diminished to the point where it took 11 rounds to stop fragile little Judah and he could have probably continued. The same goes for former Jr.Welter Urkal who could have easily went to a decision had the corner not stopped it in protest.
Objectivity escapes the fanboys to the point where they start thinking he has Trinidad-like punching power. It's easy to see Cotto is not a big puncher at all or he would have loads of early stoppages. He needs to beat his opponents over the full course of the fight to break their will and body down at which point the corner or ref stops it. He doesn't remotely have the power to blow opponents out like Cintron does. Cintron probably has twice the power Cotto does to knock his opponents out cold.

about time i hear someone that actually knows the sport.

Yep, well said. Indeed. It still scares me though how little intelligence and common sense gets applied in this cases. It's a travesty.
Cotto has an 81% KO record, Margarito's is about 60% more or less. Cottos knockouts are against better opposition Judah, Quintana, Torres while Margaritos more recent have been Cintron and Golden Johnson. Refere's stopages count if they would have let them continue it would have been a KO, quiting on your stool is a the easy way out of a KO and body KO is actually more impresive to me than a head KO.
We can talk % all we want but at the end it comes to who doesn't let opponents finish fights more often and clearly Cotto wins in that category. Cotto takes his time while Margarito just runs over people. Two completely different kinds of power Cotto's more accurate concusive shots or Margo's wild barrages. I go with Cotto I like my kos with style.
What a heaping pile of crap that is. ^ You said it right there. Judah? Quintana? Those are not KNOCKOUTS, dude. This is about POWER. POWER.
Lesser men? Margarito has fought at a heavier weight his entire career and got brought up in the tough and brutal gyms of Mexico and the South Western United States. Margarito has fought tougher, harder, more difficult to stop competition hands down.
You are a fanboy plain and simple and you're telling me to keep it real??
Cotto has taken out 6 of his opponents in 2 rounds or less. Margarito has taken out 12 of his opponents in 2 rounds or less.
Cotto has taken out only 1 opponent in the first round - in his first fight, and Margarito has taken out 6 of his opponents in 1 round or less.
This is a JOKE.

Cotto has fewer clean KO's in the same number of stoppages.
True power is based on clean knockouts.
Cotto's clean KO number is 23%
Margarito's clean KO number is 38%
That's a full 15% higher in favor of Margarito.
And alot of Cotto's TKO's aren't even true TKO's. Quitting on the stool and taking knees from back punches and shit like that is a not a damn knockout.

Margos KO #s are Against LESSER men. Keep it real Addie. Cotto is better and will prevail.

i think cotto has more power in one punch but antonio has got power in his combo's, he wears you down with punches in bunches, but cotto if he hits you with one good shot he could end it
