I will have to ask the original uploader or WBVA might ban me, I also have the Floyd Patterson story which has some Amateur fight of Patterson and i think it had a few clips of liston as an Amateur as well. cool, no problem, hopefully they wont mind. that's some rare material right there. i didnt know that they go that far back with liston or even patterson. i seen robinson, frazier and ali amateur fights and even that footage was limited. i'd love to see sonny, even if it's highlights, be great if you could hook it up.
I voted Wlad out of pure favoritism.
How anybody could like Wlad over Larry Holmes to me is mind boggling.
This will always have Holmes at or near the top of the list:
Anybody w/ the balls to drop kick somebody off the roof of a van can ultimately win my vote for President if they chose to run.
I got some real rear footage of liston in the ams and a large amount of his fights this guy had an amazing jab ok it wasn’t the quickest so someone with great head movement might be able to avoid it but his reach was freak like for his height and imo is the most powerful jab i have seen, In the ams he was knocking guys clean out with it. Liston had fairly good footwork in any case when you see him early in his career you can see he was in so much better shape than he was against Ali.:eek:there is a footage of Liston in the amateurs, bro can you post videos, please???????
Liston had a great jab when u stood infront of him but what makes his jab less than great IMO is the fact his footwork so poor that he was'nt as a effective against a moving target u can see in that 1st clip how he follows his oponent around the ring stead of cutting it down
Larry Holmes had the best jab. It was faster than Liston's, landed more than Listons and had more effct. The only thing that impressed me about Liston's jab was the length of it and how far he could stick it out there.
Liston had a poor jab IMO
he reached with it constantly, in todays climate he would have been hamered over the top with right hand counters
he had a generous reach but his jab was not quick and he did'nt have good timing with it IMO ,on top of that his footwork was poor he was not good at shuffling foward behind the jab to close the range he would tend to reach with it instead
hell than man pulled his shoulder out trying to hit Ali with, i dont care how old he was his technique would 'nt have been effected by his age IMO
powerfull jab ,generous reach but far from great IMO
That's really like judging Holmes based on his fights with Michael Spinks and Ali based on his fights with Norton and Jimmy Young...

Ali's jab certainly does not look very good in this fight.

Neither did Holmes' jab here against Michael Spinks.

Liston against the defensive Eddie Machen.
An aging Liston against perhaps the fastest HW of all time Muhammad Ali looked bad alright, that doesn't mean he was poor.
i did a thread a while ago on who had the best jab among the heavyweights. it has most of the names in your poll

hope it helps
I'd have to agree with this, Wright has a nasty jab!
I voted "Other"
Oscar De La Hoya has a good jab but IMO the best in many a year was Ronald 'Winky' Wright. He could control fights and shut down good fighters with that one punch!

I was gonna pick Sonny Liston until I stumbled upon a .gif that had Ali dodging all of his jabs so I went with Larry Holmes.
To be fair Liston had slowened down quite a bit by that time (made to look even slower because of Ali's speed) but he did manage to tag Ali with some powerful jabs.

The middle rounds of the first Liston vs Ali fight, Ali hurts Liston early in the third but Liston comes back at the end of the round.
Hell, that left hook at 2:15 would've probably knocked out most of the boxers not named Ali out cold flat on their back.

Liston in his prime 6 years earlier.
Larry Holmes, but you had to through Quartey in there, need I leave my baisedness at the door? Quartey was a bad man with that jab. Wlads got a nice Jab to.
but if you ask me Holmes wins this one ONLINE only in my heart its Ike.
Probably Holmes but it is difficult to compare jabs across weights. I've always felt that at HW the jab is so much more important than other divs. At that weight the jab can do serious damage, recently wlad all but KOd austin with jabs and Toney got knocked down by Peter's average jab.
I liked Brunos jab back in the day, was like a poleaxe. Also was interesting to see Taylor get mostly beaten to the jab by slow kelly pavlik during their first fight.
