Have u met any boxers in person before? I know most peope say that most pro boxers are very cool people in person....many say they are much more so than any other type of athlete...but who is the most noticeable one you met..who stood out as being very friendly, approachable etc? Any that were NOT??

Get out of here with this MMA bullshit. I like MMA too, but this isn't the time, and it certainly isn't the place. Hope the thread can avoid further troll interference and get back on track, as there are some very interesting little stories on here.
So has anyone out there ever met Marvelous Marvin Hagler? He was in the middle of his prime when I was a little kid, and is the first boxer to get me to take notice.....
This guy is a no body but he's obviously a boxer.... Tell me how an MMA guy would have handled 4 guys rushing him? WHAT would he have taken one down and had the other 3 guys jump on him? A trained boxer is skilled. Most MMA guys can't box (technically), that's why they have those looping hooks. I've yet to see a famous MMA fighter that has solid boxing skills. I'm not knocking MMA fighters (my cousin fights and is really close to big guys) but they are not as technical. there is no way any MMa guy could just Box like JMM or ricardo Lopez, which are reknowned for their technique.
I have a list. Emile Griffith, Floyd Mayweather (sometimes),Oscar is cool as fuck, Pac (unless he's being mobbed by Mexicans chanting MARQUEZ), MAB was always a DICK as was Jorge Arce, Chavez Jr (he must have signed 2000 autographs and taken another 1000 pics the day I saw him). A trainer that's cool as fuck is Steward! I kicked it with him the night of Joe C vs B-Hop after the fight, I was drinking at the bar @ planet Hollywood and he was right there, we started talking about boxing and he gave me a signed Kronk gym Flyer and his #, he said next time he was in town for a fight that I should call him to get a pair of tickets for me and my Dad. My boy who works security told him that he shouldn't train sorry fighters like Cintron, and he laughed his ass off.
Well, as far as being tougher.... the best boxing fights contain SUSTAINED lengthy action...Corrales etc. they sucked it up for long periods of time. The MMA guys go through trauma too, sure, but they dont have to endure sustained punishment for long periods of time. On their feet. Let ANY MMA guy BOX with a top pro fighter and he will crumble from the PUNISHMENT not just from the skill.
Youre dumber than I thought. I do go to those MMA sites, but I personally enjoy boxing, so I come here too. I am a new england resident, so I have been to both boxing and MMA cards and let me tell you, the MMA cards are jam packed. The boxing cards are not..ever.
Dumber than you thought?
Glad to know your from New England. That explains it all.
Jam packed , I agree. They put on some good cards with alot of fights.
But you totally ignored the points I made.
You want to insult me thats fine. You haven't made many valid points yet so we all know who is dumb.;
What does that tell you if boxing cards " are not..ever" jam packed and still do the numbers they do.
I watch UFC from time to time but to be honest men in tights groping each other doesnt do it for me.
Just the heavy hitters like Rampage and Silva get my attention
MMA is a modern take on female mud wrestling.
It would be gay as hell if there were mud in there. MMA fighters are fishy.
I feel sorry for males that enjoys such close contact with another half-naked sweaty male.
You don't think those guys could stand up to it? Why? They are tougher people. If they hit you and knock you down, they don't go across the ring and wait to see if you're okay. They jump on you, and pound on your face. If they want, they can choke you, break your arm, your leg, etc. There are tough boxers too, don't get me wrong, but for the most part, these guys are the toughest. They cant throw their arms up and protect their head at all time and be safe. Because if they do, they will be taken down. In boxing, someone can just cover up..they'll lose, but there isn't a lot of danger.
Yes Gatti-Ward was great. But you're dillusional if you think boxing is tougher. Nobody cares about boxing, arenas are always empty. MMA sells out every time. There is a reason for that.
Take your ass to mmalinker or sherdog. This is a boxing forum.
MMA ONLY SELLS out on the west coast. Like I said, I went to the UFC card in Jersey last year and there were a couple thousand empty seats.
I dont doubt some of those MMA guys are tough.
But lets be honest, those fights are over in a flash once someone is hurt. Where do they have a chance to show toughness or resolve?
And they dont sell out because their any better than Boxers. They sell out because their at a peak right now and every teenager with zits is sold on that junk just like kids were 20 years ago on wrestling.
Don't try to tell me their more talented individuals either. Most of those guys dont start training for MMA until their 20's.
You wont make it in boxing starting that late.
I see you ignored my post too and went to the ICEMAN'S
Your funny...
Nobody cares about Boxing?
Last I looked boxing holds the all time PPV record and Ricky Hatton got 25k people to come to the states to watch him fight Mayweather.
Eat your words my man
Tougher people? I dont think ANY ONE OF THOSE GUYS could stand up to what Ward, Castillo, Corrales, Gatti, Holyfiedl, etc have stood up to. Tougher people??? Man, I think you laid a huge brain fart with that observation
Seriously. MMA is exciting for the blood and knockouts, but that prequel to a gay porno ground game shit is just straight up boring.
I know people will say " you have to appreciate it " , but honestly whats to appreciate about two men wrapping their legs around each other and twisting arms.
In many ways MMA reminds me of WWE. Lots of Marketing and buildups to their fights with video highlights and clips. Thats the drawing power of these 18-35 year old knuckleheads. I went to UFC in Jersey last year at the Prudential Center and I couldnt believe all the videos and music they played. There was more of that then fighting.
Also, alot of fans acting like jerkoffs.
Those MMA guys ALL get winded within a matter of a minute or two. Even their biggest superstars will have their hands down on their knees 2 minutes into the first round. You see a boxer do that and it's lights out.
I think alot of their conditioning problems have to do with ALL JUICE and no cardio workout routines.
You wont find too many guys in UFC as tough as the guys mentioned above. They will NEVER take the punishment Gatti, Corrales , Holyfield, or Ward ever took.
Personally, I thought that fight between Bonnar vs Griffin was very very entertaining ..... but you see fights like that in UFC far and between.
I could take Arturo Gatti's 5 most exciting fights of his career and you still couldnt find me 5 fights in the entire history of the UFC that were better
Yes. It is the way it is. That's why boxers get so little money. The MMA is so much more popular. I personally prefer boxing, even if MMA has a lot more fans. I am not trying to offend anyone or anything, but people would rather see those guys fight because they're tougher people.

Mickey Ward is a class act too.
I found George Foreman to be very cool. In fact years ago, I told him my dream was to work an HBO card one day, he said "just hang in there, you've got the talent, so your day will come" and who was the first to email a congrats when I finally realized that dream several years later? George Foreman. Now THAT is cool.
Lennox Lewis is a great guy too, I was working an HBO gig and pointed my son Justin out to him and told him that he was a huge fan - Lennox later walked over to my son, chatted with him for about 20 minutes, then signed a glove and posed for a pic with him. - It doesn't get much better than that, my son has the pic of he and Lennox framed in an 8x10 hanging on the wall to this day.
Boxing is NOT mainstream like it was... back in the mid 80's Leonard, Hagler or Hearns could walk in a mall and get mobbed.... today a good fighter, a (former) champ, like Jermain Taylor could go to any mall outide of Arkansas and get no notice..not his fault, just the way it is
I met Ali one day in 1990... ran into him again the following day and even though he had literally shook hundreds of hands the day before, he remembered me enough to go out of his way to whisper in my then girlfriend's ear, "Take good care of him."
Like the Iceman, I have met so many fighters, that for me it would be hard to pick just one --
But that said, one of the very nicest guys I have ever met, is someone I have had the pleasure or having dinner with a couple times, as well as sat down with him and just talked boxing in general -- that would be Manny Stewart. The man even gave me his personal cell phone number and told me to call anytime! (though I wouldn't dare lol)
He is an encyclopedia as far as boxing goes, and can tell a marvelous story....
I met Margarito twice, he is awesome. He stood there signing autographs after the Johnson fight and the Cintron 2 fight for so long, taking pics. Met Cintron twice too, but he is really quiet and shy.
Other notable fighters I met over the last 2 years:
-Micky Ward (poor dude could barely see me, and I ain't small)
-Zab Judah (much nicer than you'd think - I thought he would be an a** but dude waited around while my buddy took 2 bad pics until a good one came out)
-Kelly Pavlik
-BJ Flores (he has got a smokin hot wife btw), he was a REALLY nice guy!
Hopefully more to come. Never come across a fighter who was a jerk yet.
I get a little tired of guys like him who claim to follow religion so closely etc..but when they are called on things like having all these kids out of wedlock they just say that they are human and they made a mistake, no man is pefect, etc. Man, stop!! Having unprotected sex (repeatedly) with women who are not your wife is not a "mistake," you know????

I have heard more than one credible story from someone who said something very similar after meeting Holyfield. One guy who I consider VERY credible tells me of the time in NYC at the Boxing Writers dinner when a certain former three time world champion who was down on his luck at the time asked Holy to sign the program book for him and Holyfield said NO right to his face in full view of several people
not too surprising considering he's supposedly a devout christian yet has like 10 kids from 10 different women,,,has cheated on his wives,,used steroids etc. that doesnt say a hell of a lot for his character although I totally respect and admire how he fought in the ring
Hate to say this but one of the rudest boxer I have ever met was Evander "Real Deal" Holyfield. The man would not take pictures nor sign anything with the fans. It surprised me cause you know how he's a rejuvinated christian after his heart condition and all. I thought he would have appreciated the fans a little more than that.
same thing when I saw him in atlantic city for the lews/jackson fight. no one could get near him,,,although that doesnt mean he's rude. fwiw,, a couple female friends of mine saw him in jamaica after he had just beat douglass for the title. they said he was very nice but then again they were totally hot so that may have mellowed him out,,lol
With all the heat Holy is getting in this thread, I will add that he is notorious for being one of the biggest cheapskates of all time.
You would be too if you had to pay child support for 20 kids
